Good morning, This is the water and this is the well.
Links!
I have posts in the queue about the Royals/Padres and Braves/Twins trade. If they get posted during the chat, I'll add them in here.
12:08
Also, I'm writing up all the trades that happened while I was away for posterity. Here's the Quintana deal: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/belated-trade-analysis-white-sox-acquir...
Ok, let's drink full and descend.

What's Chris Flexen's upside?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:10
Could max out as an above average starter. Will show you 96, throws strikes with all four pitches, fastball has some tail to it.

Thoughts on Esteury Ruiz?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:12
I keep missing him myself, but scouts down here like him, don't love him. The guys I've spoken to like his baseball acumen, feel to hit, think he's pretty advanced for the level. But not big on physical tools. He's a 40 runner, hasn't been great at 2B. There's some physical projection and a chance he grows into some pop, how much is hard to say. Nice low-level flier for now.

I haven't seen much about Ryan Borucki despite him having a very good year. What do you think his reasonable outcome is?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:15
Keep in mind success came as a 23-year old in A-ball. Delivery has some violence to it, he spent time on DL this year. More of a relief look for me, but a potentially valuable lefty 'pen option.

Michel Baez's debut has been impressive what's his future projection?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:16
He's freakish in a few ways. I can't say I've ever seen a player this size (he's 6-8) who is also this athletic and able to throw strikes as consistently as Baez is right now.
12:17
It's an 80 fastball right now. Upper-90s with extension.
12:18
He also has breaking ball feel. Mostly he's just blowing heat past guys right now, and I know he's just debuting, so it feels like he's a teenager but keep in mind we're talking about a 21-year old at Low-A. I have him top 10 in a loaded system right now.
12:19
As far as his overall projection? I'm not sure. I don't have a mental checkpoint for an arm like this because I've never seen anything quite like it.

Think Starling Heredia can make top 100 lists this fall? Or is he playing at too low of a level?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:22
He has the tools for that. The Pioneer league is hitter-friendly but Heredia has above average speed and power at age 18. He's a big dude for 18, but can still really move. Probably more of a 45 FV guy for now like most, low-level tooled up guys, but if he keeps hitting like this all season he might berit consideration for the back of the 100

Ryan Vilade is destroying the ball - any thoughts on him?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:23
Really looked much more comfortable at the plate this spring than he did at times last  summer, when he was very clearly a power over hit prospect. I moved him way up to pre-draft 100 before the day of selection. http://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx?draft=2017mlb&type=0&pos=all

Hey Eric. Peter Alonso. Can he become a legit 1B prospect?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:25
Yes. I'm skeptical of R/R 1B but I know there are clubs who have a future 50 on Alonso. We might go from having no R/R college first basemen since Eric Karros to suddenly having three at one time. Trey Mancini is hitting (though I'm skeptical of it continuing given his approach), Rhys Hoskins keeps mashing at Triple-A and Alonso looks good when healthy. At least one or two of those guys is going to pan out.

Do you still have Matt Chapman at a 55 with the glove? SSS in the bigs of course, but he is making some incredible plays. +8 DRS already accrued in just 21 games.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:26
I had a future 60 on the glove and it's clear he's already there, if not surpassing it. I know scouts who had a future 7 on it.

What should the Bucs do with Cutch?
Blackburn
12:27
What should the Pirates do now at the deadline?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:30
They're in a tough spot. I'm probably buying if I'm them, but if someone is willing to blow me away for Cutch I'm at least listening to that. I wish Austin Meadows was healthy, hitting and allowed them to have a chance to have their prospect cake and eat the division too.

12:30
What did you think of the Shane Baz pick by the Pirates? Personally, I loved it.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:31
Loved it. I, unsurprisingly, like pitchers with huge stuff.
Frank Thomas on the Padres
12:31
Jose Siri and Wes Rogers have put on a show this year. Who would you say is an MLB comp for each?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:33
I avoid comps but Siri is a skinny but toolsy OF with above average speed and power, had frustrated scouts and coaches with erratic play and behavior. He's impatient and a bit risky because of how aggressive he is at the plate but he has everyday tools, probably as a RF

12:34
Have you had a chance to see Jo Adell? If so how does he look?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:34
He's eating AZL pitching alive.
Carlton
12:35
Would you have preferred Florial to Rutherford if you were the ChiSox?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:35
Probably not, though I've spoken with people who would have.
Dan
12:36
What is a good result for Maitan in Danville?  Keeping his head above water and developing his defense?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:37
Yes.
