I watched Trevor Rogers closely as a riser last year.  Do you have any info on him, is he just a high ceiling low floor guy or is there more there?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:28
Was old for a HS prospect but has superlative fastball velo for a LH starter. Mixed opinions about the quality of his breaking stuff, I was not a fan of it myself. I like him but other love him. Had a chance to go mid round 1, whereas I had him as more of a late rd 1 or sandwich guy

So not like the Lion King song

Would you rather have Heliot Ramos in the early rounds of a draft, or Drew Waters, munch later?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:30
Ramos early but only after you've purified yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka

How surprised would you be if 15 years down the road, Jeisson Rosario was the best player not named Morejon from that Padres 2016 international crop?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:30
Relatively un. He's very talented, had him ranked atop that group on last year's Padres list but he didn't have a great year from a scouting perspective.
Question for Kiley
1:31
jk, sort of. I want your opinion on the piece on scouts vs. stats he just wrote. He mentions the conundrum of every team now valuing most players similarly b/c of stats, therefore fewer trades. Seems like the way past this is for a team to line up 2-3 similarly stats-valued players, whether on their club or a potential trade partner, and have their scouts be the tie-breakers, saying essentially "I'd give/ask extra for that guy based on make-up/growth-potential/etc." Is that what already happens or is it just easier/safer not to make trades?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:32
I think the resonance of scouts' opinions vary from org to org, but I agree with you. If we agree with the assumption that teams are at a stalemate because they're using the same stats, then of course the way to get ahead of that is with better scouts than the other teams.

wow, you think the M's list will be shorter than the Giants? or Royals?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:32
Oh yes

Thoughts on Jose Soriano of the angels?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:33
I'm a fan. Velo has slowly improed. 91-95 with a potential plus curveball and still has room on the body.

Speaking of Mariner's prospects, any word on how Kyle Lewis is bouncing back from his ACL injury?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:33
He was supposed to play in AFL and did not, so...

Thoughts on Jeremy Eierman?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:34
Really like him. All-fields power, chance to stay at SS. Think he's a potential top 10 pick.

Which star have you been most wrongest on?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:35
I was all-in on Dom Brown, lukewarm on Corey Seager after my first look at him.

Why do you find Evan White fascinating?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:36
Plus runner who has the speed for CF and an offensive profile that fits better there (plus hit, very little game power) but he's a 70 glove at 1B. Do you move that guy to CF? That's why he's interesting.

Is MJ Melendez a top 5 catching prospect or is that too rich?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:36
If we're only including prospects likely to stay there, he's probably top 5-7.

Eric A Longenhagen

Yes

1:37
Do you think it is harder to evaluate switch hitters?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:37
Yeah, sometimes you go an entire series without seeing a right-handed swing.

if we assume the new ball is here to stay, how does that change your view of mega-power corner guys like eloy?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:39
I truly don't know and hope it isn't here to stay. We've asked ourselves who benefits most from the ball if it's here to stay (the guys like Eloy with big power, the guys with fringey power who suddenly hit for mroe, or perhaps some very specific type of hitter who has good launch angles and benefits most from an extra tick of distance on batted balls) but we just don't know.
