SD fan looking for good news these days and the farm system seems to be the best chance for hope in that area. Any strong starts from 2016 1st round picks or noteworthy breakouts on the year?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:22
Hudson Potts looks just fine here in the AZL, using the opposite field and getting some time at SS. Quantrill's velo is at pre-TJ levels. Beyond that you can read the J2 package I put out in July and it's littered with Padres stuff because their class was so strong.
2:23
Oh and Reggie Lawson has been into the mid-90s as well. They're taking amateur talent acquisition very seriously. Preller was at Area Codes and front and center for yesterday's PG game.

What teams have the nicest facilities in Arizona?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:23
They're all pretty nice. Cubs, COL/ARI are my favorites. Brewers least so.

Is there real concern for Jose Berrios? Or is this just a case of still learning to pitch to MLB hitters?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:24
I'd wait to see where the velo is next spring before panicking but I know I'm getting there.

Mark Zagunis...how do you project him? Elite plate discipline, average everything else it seems
Eric A Longenhagen
2:24
More of a fourth OF for me.

Do you still have concerns with Rowdy Telez reaching offensive potential?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:26
Yup. Nothing new has come to light since I was last asked about him in a chat.
Matt
2:27
Moncada is striking out 30% of time in AA why is he so overhyped
Eric A Longenhagen
2:27
Because his tools are incredible.
John
2:28
What do you think about Jeff Hoffman? Can he be a number 2 or is a 3 or 4 more likely?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:29
Before his injury at ECU I would have strongly considered him at 1-1. A potential 2 for me.

Hunter Greene gonna be drafted as a pitcher or hitter?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:30
Pitcher. 4.5s down the line all summer and is only going to get bigger. Missed multiple driveable pitches yesterday, another trend throughout his summer,
Matt
2:31
Is there going to be an offseason prospect ranking list?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:31
Yup

Haven't hear much regarding Touki Toussaint since the Diamonbacks dumped him for salary relief. Is it possibly they have correctly evaluated him as having little long-term upside?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:31
No. Pitchers who throw in the mid-90s with a plus curveball have lots of long term upside. It's possible they correctly evaluated the risk associated with a wild teenage arm, but only after they used a first round pick on him.

Favorite Cheers bartender: Coach or Woody?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:32
I have seen one episode of Cheers and have no idea what the characters names are.
2:33
But if Shelley Long is one of those then, her.
Greg
2:33
Thoughts on Shohei Otani?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:33
Would be a top 10 prospect in all of baseball if eligible. I've seen him coasting at 96+.

Dominic Smith has played better recently. Is James Loney a fair comp?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:35
Loney is a better athlete and I don't like comps, generally. But if what you're getting at is, "Hey, is Dom Smith a hit-before-power type of 1B?" then yes I agree with that.
Matt
2:36
Who is a prospect you are higher on than the industry consensus?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:36
Probably several low level guys who I see in-person.
Adam from Bay Ridge
2:37
Is Jay Bruce a fair comp for Judge? Maybe Judge gets an edge on defense?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:38
Judge is definitely too unique, physically, to comp to anyone.

The Phillies have a lot of options come September. Is there anyone on the farm that the casual fan wouldn't notice but you've had eyes on this year?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:38
Tough to gauge "casual" since I'm so far removed from that but I'll say Malquin Canelo and hope you haven't heard that name before.

Does Mauricio Dubon remind you of Jose Iglesias, and is he an everyday MLB shortstop?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:39
Not for me. Don't think he hits at all.

2:39
follow up on Berrios: why concern over velocity? Isn't command and movement the issue so far?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:39
Yes but he was able to get away with that more often when he was touching 97. I think it's more likely he does that again rather than suddenly learn how to create movement AND command everything.
Matt
2:39
Grant Holmes-Future number 3 starter?
Eric A Longenhagen
2:40
I'd buy that, yes. Still young and wild so plenty of risk, but he has the stuff to get there.
