Do you think age is an overrated measurable when drafting?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:48
Maybe in the public sphere because it's something easy to latch onto and has been demonstrated to be an actual factor. Teams look at it but it's not a primary driver for decisions.

everyone not named sandy alderson & co. is clamoring for rosario and almost seem baffled he isn't up because of his offense. it seems to me his 10 errors - not even 2 months into the season - might have something to do with that, but i never hear this mentioned. do you think the defense is part to blame for holding him back? i know that's been his calling card in scouting reports, but 10 errors?

I've heard the vibe in Vegas, in general, is sour. Not sure how that's impacting promotions.

Has Tyler Mahle's stuff taken a step forward? What kind of MLB SP do you envision him being?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:50
Fastball is more consistently 92+ but he's a command guy. Mid-rotation shot based on how he's looked this year.

Is Yadier Alvarez back on track or is there still risk after not showing up for two starts.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:52
I'd like to think he'll be fine from here but it's going to be hard to wipe away some of these dud starts and rumors of him being out of shape early in the spring.

Has anything changed these first couple of months as to whether you'd rather have Gleyber or Rosario?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:52
No, but I don't think you're crazy if you do.

Between Moncada, Urias, and Albies it seems like the 2B prospect pool is relatively strong. I wanted to get your opinion on a couple of under the radar 2B that aren't getting the same hype but are having great years. How legit are Max Schrock, Shed Long, and Scott Kingerey? What are their ceilings and how do they compare to their more hyped counterparts? Thanks!
Eric A Longenhagen
12:54
I'm all over Long who I thought deserved top 100 consideration over the winter (he was an honorable mention for me) while Schrock has more of a utility projection. Kingery I've written about. Plus hit, plus speed, plus-plus glove, but this power is likely enhanced by Reading.

Is Broxton a decent comp for Bradley Zimmer? Loud contact, good to great D and plenty of swing and miss?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:55
I think someone might have asked me this exact question last week. Yes, Broxton is of the "swing and miss, power on contact, great glove" center fielder archetype and I think ZImmer is too.
And so is Michael Taylor, and so was Drew Stubbs.
So there are examples of guys with that sort of skillset panning out and others who do not.

Is most of Cotton's problem mental or did you see anything else in his rough outings? I am hoping for a callup soon.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:56
There's some worry his fastball plays down due to poor extension.

do scouts make use of minor league statcast data e.g. exit velocity? i've seen cashman reference it in evaluating clint frazier.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:56
Scouts likely do not but executives do.

12:57
Which OF prospect has the best chance to reach their all-star level ceiling, Juan Soto, Ronald Acuna or Jesus Sanchez?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:57
Acuna but I like all three of those guys a lot.

Have you seen or heard anything on the DBacks Mark Karaviotis? He's showed up on recent KATOH lists but I can find any scouting details on him.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:57
Yes, seen him a bunch. Org guy for me.

12:58
Can Evan white be playable in the OF?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:58
Runs well enough that yes, he is. But might be a 6 or 7 glove at first base and I don't think the positional adjustment from 1B to an outfielder corner is enough to justify a move. If you think he can play CF then we can talk. He has the speed for that.

Any thoughts on Osvaldo Hernandez? Is he a pitching prospect that Padres fans should be excited about?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:59
He hasn't thrown in games in AZ yet, so I'm not sure.

Why wasn't Aaron Altherr a more highly touted prospect? If anything, he seems to have the traits that would lead a prospect to be overrated, not underrated, since he's tall and athletic.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:01
He was a tweener, defensively. And I believe there were swing and miss issues. So if you thought he ended up in a corner you were worried he might not hit enough to profile. But yeah, if/when hitters with this body figure it out, it's often late.

When will Starling Heredia make his debut for the Great Lakes? Have you seen him in EXT Eric? If so how has he looked?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:01
Saw him Friday and he looked bad, but he was facing Chris Rodriguez so he gets a pass.
Jason
1:02
What is Chris Rodriguez's upside and is he a potential top 100 prospect in the future?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:03
I think he's a top 100 guy if he looks like he did on Friday all year. His delivery is violent and he doesn't have much physical projection so there's relief risk, but he throws strikes right now and sits 93+ right now so unless you're worried about injury or season-long viability (which I think is understandable) he's a top 100 guy.

How does Hunter Greene compare to Lucas Giolito, who I remember as the last high school righty to get this hyped? Obviously, Greene is a much better overall athlete, but pitch-wise, I don't think I've heard the same things about his breaking stuff that I heard about Gio.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:05
Giolito had a better curveball, but also was hurt and not as athletic as Greene.

What do you think of Dustin Fowler? Having a great year in AAA.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:06
He was a top 100 prospect for me. I think he's an average everyday CF.

What is leading to the success of seranthony Dominguez this season? The results are astounding. Is he too talented for his level?
Eric A Longenhagen

He was throwing really hard. 94-97, t99.
