Hello everyone and welcome to our Opening Day(ish) chat!
Hello Dan!
1:11
Oh no, we've used up our entire quota of exclamation marks in the first 45 seconds.

Hey hey, Happy Opening Day!
AvatarDan Szymborski

And I'll be here for more than expected as I my brother-in-law is already home from his procedure, so I don't have to spend part of Opening Day wrangling a six-year-old and a four-year-old

Oh no, we've used up our quota of ones as well. This could get dicey.

Our New York contingent is well-represented here. Expect some East Coast Bias™

Brooklyn is in the building.
Speaking of which:

and your biases are a matter of pubic record through your ZiPS forecasts, which hate everybody's favorite teams.

if the yankees transition to small ball-first play compared to their homer-heavy 2025 season, are they a legitimate threat to (finally) topple the dodgers dynasty?
Davy Andrews
1:13
Um, no, I'd much rather they kept on hitting home runs.
Matt Martell
1:14
I don't think you have to worry about this, but it would be funny if Aaron Judge started bunting
Matt Martell
1:13
Hello from Citi Field, where I'll be live chatting from Mets-Pirates! I will not be watching the other games, but I'll be able to provide you with random jersey sitings from the park

Wait, am I the only midwesterner on full time staff?

(I've lived in Ohio since 2007)

Isn't he from Chicago? Is that really the midwest? I think of that as an east coast city that's in the midwest
Davy Andrews
1:16
I feel like I know a lot of Chicagoans who would strongly disagree.
Jeremy Pena

I hit a homer yesterday, but now I can't play on Opening Day? What's going on with my finger?
Davy Andrews
1:18
Hopefully nothing too bad, but I am very much in favor of giving injuries -- especially hand injuries -- enough time to heal. Hitting one home run is great, but the Astros would rather you hit 25 of them, even if it means missing a few games up front. Look at Jackson Chourio.
Matt Martell
1:17
Things are off to a great start at Citi Field. Christopher Jackson, most notable for playing George Washington in Hamilton, messed up the lyrics to the national anthem.
Davy Andrews
1:19
Wait, he did? I completely tuned it out after a minute. (Sorry, General.)

The amount of Mariners optimism here and on other websites makes this Mariners fan very uncomfortable. Also, welcome aboard, Ryan Blake! Love your writing here and at Lookout Landing.
AvatarJay Jaffe

If it makes you feel any worse, even the folks on staff who previously covered the Mariners have picked them to at least win the division.
Davy Andrews
1:19
I'm very psyched to have Ryan on board. I think he's crushing it so far.
Matt Martell
1:20
You should all read Ryan's essay on the Mariners, Cal Raleigh and J-Rod from this morning. It's very good

Greetings, all. Welcome to the real Opening Day, i.e. the one where there games are being played during the day and you don't need to subscribe to a streaming service to watch.
AvatarDan Szymborski
1:18
Well, you do need peacock for the first one!
AvatarJay Jaffe
1:18
it's on NBC here in NYC
Matt Martell
1:18
Speaking of Mariners optimism, I nearly made my bold prediction: Josh Naylor leads the American League in stolen bases. Let's go Thickey Henderson!
AvatarDavid Laurila
1:19
Ditto on NBC in Boston.
AvatarJay Jaffe
1:19
That's a little too bold!
AvatarDan Szymborski

Though I basically get all the streaming services on top of still having cable, so media companies see me as a fat cat sucker
