ZiPS projects Severino (2.7 WAR) to be better than Iglesias (2.0 WAR).
Jeff Zimmerman
9:45
I could see that, but disagree. Can't we each have our own opinions.
Paul Swydan
9:45
Reminder that the WAR totals in Carson's posts aren't precisely what they will be when they are all plugged in. But OK, that's fine. Iglesias was still better last year.
Skarp Hedin

Addison russell at nine years is over 180 million, right? With that glove and pop and youth and inflation etc that is a steal!
Paul Swydan
9:46
Uh, no. He might not even get 80, because at least a few of those years are going to be buying out cheap artbitration years, when his salary is capped.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:47
I would hold off if I was the Cubs. I would at least wait for one good MLB season from him first before going 9 years.
Jimmy
9:47
Starling Marte - about the same as last year with the bat, or room for even better? Also, if/when does he take over CF from Cutch?
Paul Swydan
9:48
Definitely room for growth, but I'd bank on basically the same.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:49
I think his bat is maxed out and I could even see some HR regression. There is no need to move him to CF now.
E
9:49
I think his point with the projections was that you claimed the projections favored iglesias and that wasn't the case. It's not that you can't "see that, but disagree" but that the opposite was claimed and not true.
Paul Swydan
9:50
Well, I don't want to speak for Jeff, but I generally use the depth charts projections, and ZiPS aren't incorporated into that system yet.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:50
Did I? If so, sorry for the confusion.
Kylo Ren

I still don't know how to use the Auction Calculator when trying to tweak for my league's settings. Everything seems off.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:51
What part?
Paul Swydan
9:51
I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't used it myself yet, but try hitting up Eno or Jeff or Zach or Paul Sporer on Twitter, see if they can help.

I can deal Springer and Rendon for Miggy and Sherzer. My buddies are telling me I'm crazy if I don't do it. No cost. Can keep them forever. Am I really that nuts for sticking with the younger guys?
Paul Swydan
9:52
Kind of, ya. Springer and Rendon are good chips, but both have some pretty bad injury histories.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:53
Yes you're crazy. I like the deal for you.
The Ultimate Boromir

Second best sp on the Sox staff at the end of the year. E-Rod?
Paul Swydan
9:53
That'd be fantastic, but for now I'll say Buchholz.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:54
Someone they trade for from a non-contender

Any concern with Chris Sale in terms of injury risk? Besides his throwing motion, he threw a lot more sliders in the second half last year (23%, compared to 17% in first half), while his FB and CH percentages declined. Velocity looks fine but is that slider stat a bad sign?
Paul Swydan
9:55
One for Jeff.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:56
My last Mash report has the injury risk on high slider usage. That article should be bookmarked for several factors in it.
Kylo Ren
9:56
I'm not complaining! I just know I'm doing something wrong and can't quite figure it out.
Paul Swydan
9:56
I'm confident that you will get it eventually.

What would you say has been the worst move made this offseason (excluding the Miley/Smith trade and anything Dave Stewart has done)?
Paul Swydan
9:57
Dickerson-McGee
Jeff Zimmerman

The Ian Kennedy signing

I can trade Betts for Donaldson. keeper league. I really don't want to trade Betts. Tell me I'm not an idiot.
Paul Swydan
9:58
You're not an idiot.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:58
I would keep Betts knowing nothing else about the teams.
Phil
9:59
Ian Desmond is still unsigned. Two weeks before spring training, who's being more unreasonable: Teams that don't want to lose a draft pick or Desmond for not accepting a contract that's nowhere near the $100 million the Nats offered?
Paul Swydan
9:59
Probably Desmond. But it's close.
Jeff Zimmerman
9:59
Desmond

Well, Jeff and I rarely agree, so now that we have an agreement streak, I think it's time to call it a night. Thanks as always for hanging out. We'll see you next week!

Bye everyone
