Well that was a predictable outcome against Holmes
Grounder rate of 69% for the year, actually went down as a Yankee despite upping his sinker usage
Kevin Goldstein

Sinker sunk. HUGE play there. Still a game.

You are GM of the Jays. Do you try to bring back both Semien and Ray knowing you have some arbitration raises coming and need more bullpen arms?

YES

Yes. It's not my money and it's not yours.

So when the broadcast lists two-seamers they might actually be sinkers instead of arm side breaking two-seamers?

Pitch types really don't have neat bright lines.
Kevin Goldstein

Pitch types often don't even have dim lines.

A lot of it is "let's just call it whatever the pitcher says it is"

To clarify my previous statement. I absolutely buy that a pitcher can not have it an be off. I don't buy that using more relievers increases the chances. I think there are enough tools in rapsodo and the other pitching tools to have a good idea if someone's mechanics are out of wack. I would assume that the rays monitor info like that in the bullpen and that's why they have a reduced likelihood of relievers not having it

The difference between stuff in a bullpen and stuff in a game is often JARRING.

Every mound is just a liiiiiiiittle different and that can be more than enough!

I've never seen the Rays warm a guy up and then sit him down off anything other than game situation, and even then it's CRAZY rare.

fuzzy means clustering probably more accurate, but it's harder to apply narratively

evoldi has evolved a lot in the last four years. Anything he’s doing better or just maturing?
Kevin Goldstein

Stuff hasn't really changed much. Command has come leaps and bounds.

Question for Kevin, can Jairo Solis and Forrest Whitley still have sucess in majors?
Kevin Goldstein

Maybe Solis. Not optimistic on Forrest.

Uh-oh.  The Red Sox radio announcers have gone to talking about bacon.

Bacon is always a good topic.

I think you're giving too much credit to the Rays, which is hard to do. Or you are at least over-thinking it. The Rays have a matrix, regardless of inning. If 5-6-7 are coming up, it's reliever X. If reliever X looks iffy in the bullpen, he's still getting that inning.

Eric put a 40 on Ohtani's hit tool before the 18 season. Is that accurate? I could see going as high as a 45 but I don't think it's a 50. or am I crazy?
Kevin Goldstein
9:28
I think it's a 50.
