Kershaw's back will forever be a "what-if" to me.

before his first back injury in 2016, he was having a Pedro '99 esque season -
121 IP 1.79 ERA, 1.67 FIP 5.3 fWAR in 16 starts

In the month of May '16, he had more CGSO (3) than walks allowed (2) - 6 starts, 49.2 IP, 0.91 ERA 0.91 FIP, 2.9 fWAR

Afterwards, his velocity started dropping and he went from "best-pitcher-on-the-planet" Kershaw to "really-good-but-not-top-3" Kershaw

I'd still say those with a surplus of starters are at a pretty significant advantage — the Dodgers being able to go "oh, no Kershaw? Fine, here's Dustin May" is a luxury most teams don't have
