Would the goal still be for the 100-inning reliever to finish the game, or would he follow the starter (which was often Whitlock's role before Barnes slocumbed).
Kevin Goldstein

Use him in the innings where he best impacts a game.

I feel like Rasmussen was groomed to be a multi inning reliever, but was so good, he became a traditional starter
Ben Clemens
5:24
Agreed with this
Kevin
5:25
Leaving Maton in there wow
Kevin Goldstein
5:25
Only threw like 12 pitches in last frame....
Yelich
5:26
Ok, what's going on here? Is 2018-19 the fluke, or 2020-21?
Ben Clemens
5:26
Classic unsatisfying FG answer, but why not both?

What stadium is most hostile to play in as a visitor in the playoffs
Kevin Goldstein
5:27
Yankee Stadium. Really not close.
Ben Clemens
5:27
If he's a 125 wRC+ type, low 800s OPS, I wouldn't be surprised
5:28
His absurd power on contact just seemed to good to be true even as it was happening

What makes Yankee Stadium more hostile than Fenway?
Kevin Goldstein
5:28
I been in both as a visitor in the playoffs, and there's an edge to Yankee Stadium.
5:29
And the Brewers don't score, because that's what they do this series.
justadog

Kevin, I assume teams spend a decent amount on vision testing and training, right?  Thinking about Yelich and how awful he looks and whether it could have anything to do with his vision.
Kevin Goldstein
5:29
Tons.
Ben Clemens
5:29
Were you at the 2015 wild card game??
Kevin Goldstein
5:29
I was!
Ben Clemens
5:29
If so I probably heckled you, I went with some of my Yanks fan friends
5:30
still have a wonderful grainy cell phone picture of Judge and Altuve passing each other on the field

My wife and I couldn't get out of there and it took forever and then we want to an all night diner and my wife had breakfast food and cheap wins and I got a black and white cookie to take back to hotel after. We had an early morning flight home the next day. My wife doesn't even like baseball and she's been to so many stadiums and 10 World Series games.
Ben Clemens

er, sorry, of Correa and Altuve**
Andrew
5:31
What are some of the most egregious listed heights for players? I'm thinking particularly of Altuve's 5'6" and Bregman's 6'
Kevin Goldstein
5:31
Altuve closer to his than Bregman.
Ben Clemens
5:31
I hadn't seen the Astros in person before and that combo of giant shortstop/tiny 2b was just quite amusing to me
5:33
The Brewers not being able to score there is not a good sign
5:34
Their offense is just on a milk carton
Kevin Goldstein
5:34
And Braves start inning with Swanson double . . . just bad vibes if you are Milwaukee.
Ben Clemens
5:35
Yeah, this game was always gonna be the toughest one for them to win, but you'd like to see some runs at least
Also: I think not bringing Burnes back on short rest was the right call
Kevin Goldstein

If you are ahead in a post-season game, at what point is it ok to start counting outs?

Agree on Burnes. In pre-game stuff, it sounded like he just wasn't ready physically to do it, so the question was moot.
5:37
KG Trivia Tidbit. The last no-hitter I saw in person was thrown by Eric Lauer.
Error away from perfect game.
Ben Clemens
5:37
I think prescriptive 'send your ace out on short rest' managing is just as bad as prescriptive 'no one goes a third time through' managing
Counting outs
5:38
Shouldn't the difference in score impact when you start counting outs?
Kevin Goldstein
5:38
Fair point.
5:39
Here's the box score on the Eric Lauer. Me and about 50 other people there, around half of whom were scouts.
