Gratuitous Brady Aiken dig there by the announcers
2:10
You have to love that Alex Cintron told Verducci "our hitters are going to take take take"
Kevin Goldstein
2:10
108 mph off the bat on that Altuve double.
Ben Clemens
2:10
Shows how valuable those interviews are

With the season on the line would you turn to Hendriks to get you out of a jam in lets say the 4th inning today? Gotta make sure he's in the game before its out of reach right?
Ben Clemens
2:10
I would
Kevin Goldstein
2:10
I think it would take a remarkable situation to see him before the seventh.
Ben Clemens
2:10
I don't think Tony will
2:11
Hendriks seems like he would be very up for it, which makes it an easier call
Kevin Goldstein
2:12
Whoa. 97 mph FB to Bregman.....
Ben Clemens
2:12
Wow
I love that he's screaming to the dugout about it lol
Think he was worried about whether he had his good stuff?
Kevin Goldstein
2:12
WHOA. 99 mph!

Will a player take less not to play in Toronto? (not because T.O. is bad but just the logistics of playing out of the U.S.)
Kevin Goldstein
2:13
They'll take less because of the taxes.
This game just got very interesting.
I mean, it already was! MORE interesting.
Ben Clemens
2:13
Guess he's back!
Geebs
2:13
I would consider taxes logistics in this instance
Ben Clemens
2:14
Good thing you aren't an accountant
Kevin Goldstein
2:15
Then yes. Taxes an be huge when you are talking baseball money. When I was with Houston, if a player had a $10m offer from a team in California, Hoston could offer $9m and be right there because no state taxes in Texas (Florida too).

Do the teams calculate some of the taxes when making offers?  White Sox made biggest offer to Wheeler, but I heard taxes made it moot.  (Baseball taxes are weird, based on home and away games...)
Kevin Goldstein
2:15
Yes. Taxes are always considered.
Ben Clemens
2:15
Look at the Dodgers' weirdo deal with Mookie Betts as an example
2:16
They structured it with some interesting bonuses and deferrals so that he could receive a big chunk of his money in his state of residence, Tennessee
(no state income tax, go vols)
Kevin Goldstein
2:16
That might be the most exciting top of an inning int he playoffs so far.

2:17
I've been told but never been able to verify - are Blue Jays contracts in CND dollars? If that's the case that has to be a consideration
Ben Clemens
2:17
This might be in my area of expertise for once
2:18
The reported salaries are converted
Kevin Goldstein
2:18
Yeah, you are working in Canada, so you get paid in Canadian money. Offers are made in $USD so there's no confusion.
Ben Clemens
2:18
And for numbers that big, the logistics of switching between currencies are seamless
If you are getting $10mm CAD but you don't want CAD, your private wealth banker will just set up an auto conversion
(players with contracts like that have people that do this)
Kevin Goldstein
2:19
Taxes for baseball players are kind of amazing. Real pain in the ass as they have to file in every state they play in.

It would be very hard to hit Jake Arrieta, if both he and DeGrom were standing on the mound and you didn't know which one had the ball.
Ben Clemens
2:19
This brings up an interesting question: how bad of pitchers could you put on the mound two at once
And get away with it
2:20
Like, could you do Arrieta and current CC Sabathia?
