that type of changeup is so pretty when it's executed.
Urquidy threw a number of changeups to Soler the other night.

Also how responsible are the Pirates for the sinkers' decline
Ben Clemens
9:16
I don't think they are at all. THey were more victims than anything else
When the ball got livelier and homers started going up, the cost of missing with your sinker went WAY up and they were slow to adjust

There were 2471 changeups from righties to righties in the strike zone on the inside half in 2021
9:17
The BA on those pitches was .292. The SLG was .596.
Ben Clemens
9:17
Yeeeeesh
2,471 is not many in the grand scheme of things
But it's not many because those pitches are often mistakes
Luke Hooper
9:17
Ahh, but the whiffs! The whiffs were beautiful

that is definitely suboptimal pitching strategy.  ill stick to wine rather than pitching
Ben Clemens
9:18
I will as well

because of its demoralizing effect on beloved home run sluggers the "curved-ball" is one of the most despised plays in all of baseball

If a traditional batting order mindset were used, what would the Braves top of the order even look like? It seems like Ozzie is a prototype of the old school 2 hitter, but who would lead off?
Ben Clemens
9:19
Strangely, the fastest player on the Braves (not counting Acuna) this year is.... Adam Duvall
Luke Hooper
9:19
wow that was a great changeup!
AvatarDan Szymborski
9:20
If you just look at right vs. right inside middle changeups
.349 BA with a .702 SLG
Ben Clemens
9:20
Did Smoltz know the count there?
AvatarDan Szymborski
9:20
Riley had 17 inside changeups from righties this year. He hit 3 homers on them
Ben Clemens
9:20
He said that if Garcia missed with that pitch, the bases would be loaded
AvatarDan Szymborski
9:20
And that's for high ones and low ones too inside
Luke Hooper
9:21
Yea he definitely thought it was 3-2
GracieCat
9:21
Duvall is faster than Dansby?
Ben Clemens
9:21
Shocking, right?
9:22
Nice cut by Riley there

Why do players often wrap their pinky around the bottom of the knob? It seems like you wouldn’t get as full of a grip on the bat…

In my experience, hitters sometimes feel more comfortable by having their dominant hand being move dominant
I never did that. Maybe that's why I sucked?

That replay made it look like Bregman got a pretty bad first jump on that.
Ben Clemens
9:23
Yeah, Bregman has not looked good on defense this postseason at all
Russ

But the TBS crew loved talking about how Rosario was one of the fastest players in the bigs, despite no evidence of that.
Ben Clemens
9:23
Yeah that was very strange
It made me look it up more than once
He's not slow or anything
always confused
9:23
Dansby's glorious head of hair is slowing him down
Luke Hooper
9:24
Uh oh, smoltz is grumpy that Soler shot for the moon on a 2-0 pitch.
Ben Clemens
9:24
Someone is going to have to explain to me why a different approach is optimal in the regular season and World Series
