Both Profar and Soto swung at the first pitch. You don't want the pitcher to expect a pattern with Machado swinging at the first pitch. After two batters, they're expecting Machado to swing first pitch as well, so the pitch will likely be out of the zone. So Machado shouldn't swing at the first pitch. Odds are good he'll get a ball on the first pitch.
