Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Hey folks, we'll get started in a few moments.

Kelenic or Adell this year?
Brad Johnson
1:04
Adell for me. He's always needed time to adjust to every level. And he's always eventually succeeded. Looked like he was doing it last year before the injury.
I love finding these guys who can adjust. Which is not to say that Kelenic can't only that this is the first time he really looked overmatched, and that isn't always an easy solve.

Do you think Julian Merryweather will play a role in back end of Jays bullpen?
Brad Johnson
1:05
We shouldn't rule it out, although what I saw of him last year didn't lead me to think he's a stable high-leverage option.
Health played a role in that, of course.

Does Dinelson Lamet have value in bullpen this season?
Brad Johnson
1:06
Yes, absolutely. Even if he's not closing, I'd expect a top 30 reliever season.
So long as he avoids injury - always a big IF - he should easily pile up relief wins, the odd save, and tasty ratios.
1:07
Big time target for me.

I don’t play fantasy baseball currently but if I did Matt Olson in Truist Park would be a top pick of mine. What round would you pick him up in?
Brad Johnson
1:08
His ADP is around pick 40.
1:09
Alonso is pick 48, and I prefer him slightly so I haven't found myself with any Olson shares. At least not any new ones. Really love him though. In any park.

Hi Brad, how much do you discount (if at all) good players on bad teams? I'm thinking about a guy like Bryan Reynolds for example
Brad Johnson
1:09
It affects the projection for runs and RBI, but that can be a double-edge sword. Reynolds, for instance, is a tailor-made leadoff man, but he'll bat third or fourth where his fantasy numbers will be far more robust.
1:10
"Protection" can be a problem, but that usually only REALLY comes up when you're Juan Soto on a team of nobodies. Reynolds may not have much protection, but opposing pitchers also have no cause to avoid his bat most of the time.

Any prospects that you think can come up and make a strong impact in SB?
Brad Johnson
1:11
Oh yea, plenty. Vidal Brujan and Josh Lowe jump to mind.
1:12
I'm going to point you to 2 articles because I covered pretty much everyone.

Is Ranger Suarez a good pickup?
Brad Johnson
1:12
I started off just expecting him to turn into a pumpkin, but I've really grown to love him over the offseason.
1:13
I say this often: gimme any pitcher who can give a strikeout per inning, limit walks, and roll 50%+ GBs.
Those are the guys who pitch deep into starts because they work efficiently.
1:14
And they have the ability to chase down whiffs when they need them or induce soft contact when that's the quicker path to an out.

I was offered Blake Snell and Francisco Lindor for Jake Cronenworth & Alex Verdugo 12-team 5x5 H2H league. Is Lindor an upgrade to Cronenworth's versatility?
Brad Johnson
1:14
Yea, I see that as a win for you. And as much as I like Verdugo, he's replaceable in 12-team mixed.
Closers
1:15
Any specific American League closers you are targeting or you see going at a decent value?
Brad Johnson
1:15
I just posted my NL analysis over at NBC. AL will be up on Friday afternoon. Lemme think on it a second.
1:16
You know, there are some good names in the NL, but it's more about dart throws in the AL. I think NYY is tired of Chapman so I'm looking at fliers on Loaisiga and Green.
I like Whitlock in Boston
Fulmer is going too cheap in Detroit.
1:17
Decent chance he at least shares a bit with Soto if not closing outright.
Twins pen is more unsettled than the consensus pick of Taylor Rogers.
1:18
Throwing some late-late darts (like pick 800) at Greg Holland. Also betting on Andres Munoz at no cost.

Is It time yo drop jasson dominguez?
Brad Johnson

Actually, I'm starting to hear great things again. Might want to hold on a little longer.
