Fantasy Baseball Chat with Brad Johnson

Hey folks, we'll get started in a few moments as questions start to come in.
Aroldis Chapman
1:04
What are the odds another team will offer me the 9th inning?  Or am I a match-up reliever now?
Brad Johnson
1:04
Chapman's tricky, but I do think he'll land a closing gig.
1:05
Especially if some club thinks they can solve his command woes.
1:06
It's going to be a weird free agency for him
Happy Wanderer
1:06
It's OK to drop Luzardo for someone like Quintana or Bello even, right? Given upcoming match-ups...
Brad Johnson
1:06
Yes, especially if there's no keeper decision involved, you can cut virtually anybody for the final 10 days if you think it helps to improve your win odds.

Can you give us some names of players who can be next year's Spencer Strider or Michael Harris - i.e. players who weren't on the top prospect lists going into the season but make an impact?
Brad Johnson
1:07
By definition, if I could pick these guys, then they wouldn't be surprises. But I'll take a stab at Andrew Painter, Colton Cowser, and Sal Frelick. I also like Will Brennan who's up right now.
1:08
I'm better at scouting out leadoff profiles, and you'll noticed the three hitters I mentioned are either leadoff/4th OFer types
Just a reminder, this is a fantasy chat so I've been instructed not to comment on topics like who will close for the Dodgers in the postseason.

Which top prospects' struggles in their first taste of the big leagues seriously concerns you?
Brad Johnson
1:10
I expected to be more impressed by DL Hall. He looks very relievery to me right now.
1:11
For some reason, I'm blanking on which guys are actually struggling. I know Casas and Jung haven't looked great. I think they'll adjust to make more consistent good contact.
I think Tork and Greene will look better next year too.
1:12
I guess I'm a little worried for Josh Lowe's pitch recognition
1:13
The difference between most MLB outfielders and their AAA equivalents mostly comes down to breaking ball recognition.
Nick Pratto's strikeout rate is worrisome. Could be a Rowdy Tellez-like dev path
1:14
I no longer have a good read on Vidal Brujan. Love him as an athlete. He shouldn't be this bad.

Thoughts on Tyler Anderson having probably the best season of his career?
Brad Johnson
1:14
The Dodgers have devil magic.
He's truly pitched very well this season. It seems sustainable, but I really hope to see him stay with the Dodgers to maximize that sustainability.

Keepers pick 2 of 3: Strider, Sandy Alcantara, Shane McClanahan
Brad Johnson
1:15
Oooof
1:16
I think Strider might be my cut. Basically, they're all three very good and project to be top 10 or so. I perceive Strider to be the biggest injury risk followed by McClanahan.
Obviously, if you can, swing a trade instead of cutting one.

Young, less highly rated arms called up late in the year who I’m tracking for next season- ryne Nelson, drey Jameson, Luis Ortiz, Brayan bello, and johan Oviedo… anyone else you’d throw on that list?
Brad Johnson
1:17
Cody Morris comes to mind
I really like Ortiz. Wound up getting him everywhere a couple days before he debuted. He wasn't even in the CBS database!

I have leiter on my roster do i keep him for next year or is he going to be Walker texas ranger
Brad Johnson
1:18
I need a moment to refresh myself with his reports.
1:20
Ok, I thought I remembered something about this... his fastball has backed up in quality. I don't know if this is a Rangers dev influence (they're not well-regarded by employees from other orgs), something Leiter himself changed/lost, or pure happenstance.
1:21
It depends on your opportunity costs. It would be *nice* to get another look at him next season before moving on. I plan to do that with my Forrest Whitley shares.
But if you need to be aggressive with your keep/cut decisions, it probably makes sense to move on.

Is fantasy your full time job? Do you make a comfortable living on it?
Brad Johnson
1:22
Yes and absolutely not.

1:22
Is Weimer overlooked as one of the better outfield prospects in the Brewers system, in terms of fantasy?
Brad Johnson
1:22
I don't think he's overlooked. He seems more hyped in fantasy than real scouting circles.
1:23
Wiemer has really impressive fantasy categories, but scouts don't think most of it will translate to the Majors. He's a bit of a unicorn, so I'm not counting him out.\

with saves so hard to come by, if I wanted to stash a few relievers who could end up being their teams closer next season, who might I consider?
