Hey folks, I'll get rolling as soon as I'm settled.
Catcher dilemma
1:05
Do I activate Heim and drop William Contrares?  Seems like Contrares will finish stronger
Brad Johnson
1:05
I prefer Contreras.
1:06
I do think Heim is a nice fantasy catcher. Shame to cut one, but you gotta do what's best (assuming trading isn't an option)

Nimmo seems to be playing through an injury.  If the Mets keep falling do you see him shutting down for the year.  Is it worth it to be proactive and pick up Wisdom, S Garrett, J Peterson, or some other WW guy now or should I wait and see how it plays out?  Currently in first and don't want to be caught when there is no one else to grab.
Brad Johnson
1:07
I'd stick with Nimmo compared to those alternatives
1:08
Unless you have a specific need for power (Wisdom), I don't really see any of them outperforming a banged-up Nimmo. There will always be new part-timers to consider, especially as the calendar turns to September.

Any chance these three make it to the big league club and make any sort of fantasy impact this year? Jackson Holliday, Paul Skenes, Ceddanne Rafaela.
Brad Johnson
1:09
No, definitely no, and like 25% to make it/10% to impact
1:10
The thing with Rafaela is he's pretty whifftastic and has poor discipline. His Triple-A power results also greatly overstate his actual power ability.
He's hitting dingers like a 65-70 grade slugger when he's really more of a 35/40 right now.
1:11
If he's called up, it will be for his glove, not the bat
1:12
As for Holliday, it's too likely he's overmatched in the Majors, but there's still an outside chance they give him a quick look while deciding on their best playoff configuration.
More of a never-say-never than a plausible outcome
Skenes will throw a few innings in instructs and that's it.

Your chats are my favorite! Two questions: If the Reds get Lodolo and Greene back soon, do they have enough to grab one of the three wild card spots? I have James Wood, Jackson Chourio and Mick Abel in an 11-team keeper league where you can keep three minor leaguers (their contracts are $5, 10, and 2 respectively). Do I keep all three heading into next year's auction or just two of the three? Thanks!
Brad Johnson
1:14
First one isn't a fantasy Q, but I do think they have enough to continue contending.
They're currently 4th in the WC hunt if memory serves, and only like half a game behind an equally flawed Marlins roster.
1:15
As for the second question, I'd need more context about the keeper rules and total budget because $5 and $10 seem very high for Wood and Chourio despite their status as top 5 prospects.
1:16
Like, Ke'Bryan Hayes is a $5 player in 11-team mixed. That's a big opportunity cost for a player who's likely some time away from his peak.
1:17
The prospect game is always tricky in shallower formats.
You're basically playing for those high-outcome, instant-gratification guys. Most prospects follow a slower track
1:18
Chourio might not even debut next year, and it might be 2027 by the time he's kicking big fantasy numbers (if at all). Or... he might come up halfway into 2024 with early-Trout vibes.
1:20
Wood has a whiff issue which could slow him down early on - he has a nice power/speed thing going which should put a Volpe-ish floor on his debut.
1:21
Abel's a wild card. The command has backed up a bit this year which wasn't expected. I think he's trying to hard to avoid hard contact. Though it IS working (59 H in 80.2 IP)
His workload is ramping toward a 2025 debut

What's your opinion on Alec Bohm?  Do you think he continues to improve or is this his ceiling?  His numbers this season are very similar to Vlad, although that might be an indictment of Vlad more than anything else.
Brad Johnson
1:22
I think there's a little more in Bohm's bat, but I don't think the Phillies are the ones to find it. He does seem to be a trade candidate so we might get to see him in a new uniform. He's just a solid, balanced, throwback hitter
1:24
And yea, that's an indictment of Vladito, not a credit to Bohm. Bohm's basically the kind of 105 wRC+ you want batting with runners in scoring position. He's going to put it in play.\

Who is the closer in San Diego next year?
Brad Johnson
1:25
I'd bet on Scott Barlow. I think that's why they acquired him, so they weren't forced to worry about it over the winter. They can upgrade if the opportunity is there and ignore the position if not.
Robert Suarez is an obvious candidate too.
There's a chance Hader accepts a QO.

Im in an AL-only league. Post the trade deadline, what’s your view on potential closers for the remainder of 2023 and looking forward to 2024?
Brad Johnson
1:26
Carlos Hernandez jumps to mind. I'm sure it's too late for George Santos, but he's cool too. Jose Soriano has closer-ish traits aside from poor command.
1:27
Can always go digging in the Yankees and Rays bullpens for scrap
Small chance the Guardians trade Clase and promote Stephan
1:28
The Tigers should sign someone if you want to speculate on the second tier FA RPs.
I like Griffin Jax.
I REALLY like Bryan Abreu. Like, he's a borderline top 5 RP in the league.
