Juan Yepez, hit well but didnt dominate, doesnt contribute much defensively. Hes squeezed this year w the Pujols farewell tour but with Burleson in AAA and nootbars recent play does Yepez have a future role in STL or is a trade needed to free any value for him long term?
Brad Johnson

He's really clearly trade bait imo. A guy you like to have in your system but don't ever feel that attached to when you have other assets (like the Cards).
I think they'll default to trying to find playing time for him, but they ought to deal him for pitching if the opportunity arises. Even just a repeat of the Aroz/Liberatore swap.

Talking about Merrifield, how about Mondesi.  Do he come back trying to prove something near year?  Is he still a feared SB guy?
Brad Johnson
1:26
Certainly he's a feared SB guy.
If you look at Billy Hamilton's career, you'll probably wistfully say "if only he could hit a little more"
1:27
That's Mondesi. He just needs to convert to CF, learn how to get some jumps, and he's a defensive star with just enough bat.

How big of a hit has he taken this year. Should I hold onto him in my dynasty league or is he toast?
Brad Johnson

He's officially post-hype. As is often the case, it's a matter of opportunity cost. He's still a 22-year-old with Triple-A experience, plus discipline, and several + grades. He could magically recover with a healthy offseason.
How far away am I?

We haven't really seen a pitcher on this development track since Julio Urias. He's on track to be activated mid-2023. The trick is how they manage his innings. They also have so much good pitching. They need to cash in a lot of it for hitters imo since they've shown no capacity for developing bats.
1:31
Pitchers are at a premium right now, they should be able to get some gold for a Pablo Lopez then turn around and promote Perez if they can't coax enough decent innings from Braxton Garrett types.

12 team, NL only. Just lost Gonsolin to the IL.

Probably good news for whoever was asking about Pepiot earlier.

Would you feel comfortable starting Trayce Thompson against righties in the fantasy playoffs (OPS of 1.100 against RHP)?
Brad Johnson
1:32
Yes, assuming you're not sitting a considerably more talented player to get him in.
1:33
Let's end here.

Another season of more good than great (and not a whole lot of good). What's my outlook going forward?
Brad Johnson
1:34
I'm still very optimistic. Similar reports to India in terms of ability to make adjustments and work ethic. He's 23 and has 1160 MLB PA.
1:35
At some point soon, the consistency of his contact will need to improve or he'll find himself on a new team. Which might not be the worst thing.
I'd be looking for expose him to new ideas over the winter were I the Cardinals.
There's no reason why his hard and barreled contact rates should be so low. And his Max EV should be several ticks above league average.
