Fantasy Baseball Chat With Jeff Zimmerman

I need an ace or near-ace in an NL only keeper league, 3 years at auction price before the price goes up. Who do you like better, Woodruff or Flaherty? How much of a factor is Flaherty’s superior (14th percentile) injury profile?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:44
They are really close and I'd go with Flaherty and his home park.

Mountcastle often compared to early-career Castellanos. For as much of a hindrance Comerica was for Castellanos' power, how much of a boon is Camden for Mountcastle?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:45
I'm all in with Mountcastle. I think he could be a top-5 round contributor.

What is your reasoning for using IP as a fantasy stat?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:47
To correctly value SP's. Wins are more and more going to middle-releivers since starters can't go 5 IP.
Do the EOS IP rankings look out of wack compared to the Wins: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0...

Which side of a Gleyber Torres ($4) for Brandon Woodruff ($8) trade would you prefer in a 5x5 dynasty league?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:48
Torres and it's not close
Squishy balls
11:48
My thought is that the dozen homer, low EV, high launch hitters will see some of their homers turn to outs, where others will see little effect other than a few homers turning to doubles. Is this likely about right or do we just ignore it for now?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:49
If MLB is truthful with the their comments on the ball, the best article I found was one at BHQ that found some change but not enough to matter.
11:50
1 to 2 ft isn't devastating. The 5-10 feet others mention is.

Does May start the season at AAA?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:51
As of right now, yes.
J

What do you think of Cavan Biggio? I used a z-score method to rank players and it had him as the #1 2B, but I'm suspect (OBP league)
Jeff Zimmerman
11:51
OBP, he's outstanding. Buy away
Most rankings are based off average

Better catcher to keep in a 10-team roto league (OBP instead of AVG) with a $260 budget: Will Smith ($8) or Yasmani Grandal ($14)
Jeff Zimmerman
11:52
Will Smith IMO, especially if the NL adds a DH in the future
AB
11:53
Not ignoring SBs, but not seeking it out at the expense of HR, RBI, and R
Jeff Zimmerman
11:54
The key for this approach is to pay cost or up a bit for early SB's. Collect good hitters who steal
Dee Arby
11:54
Who are some good mid round players to provide steals?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:55
There is none, everyone who can steal is getting pushed up. Get a base early and add 5-12 along the way
Eric Hosmer
11:55
Do I maintain my launch angle?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:55
Doubt it
A Vaughn
11:55
Do I really have a shot at being the opening day DH?!
Jeff Zimmerman
11:56
Hahn said so, he might know
Friendo
11:56
How many relievers should clear the board before you're grabbing Devin Williams?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:56
40 to 50
11:57
If I'm going to roster a non-Saves RP, it'll be a reserve round pick
11:58
I'll also steamer for this season's Williams for a dollar of the wire. I'm not putting any resources to a MR streamer.

Over the years it seems like you and Rob Silver basically agree on your valuations of players 90% of the time. Can you think of any players in 2021 that you two disagree on?
Jeff Zimmerman
11:59
The one I remember is that Matt Olson and Austin Riley were waiver wire options for a week and he thought I was crazy for likely Olson more.

Say there is signs of the ball being deadened, Will there be many in season changes in regards to hitters approach or are they mostly resigned to lift and pull for bombs?
Jeff Zimmerman
12:00
I think lift and pull is here to stay for a while
The deadening might not be be felt

are you more or less forced to do these chats?  are they getting boring to you cuz you seem pretty cranky w/some of your answers.. anyway thanks for the time and chat
Jeff Zimmerman
12:04
I actually like them and learn a ton from them. I feel a little bad that I can't get to every question after stopping them earlier in the offseason because no one was asking anything. Also, I'm not here to agree. Most of the time I don't at all. There are plenty of other people out there to blow rainbows and sunshine up butts. I'm not one here for happy answers.

What area of fantasy baseball do you think you could improve at? Where do you see a lot of managers making the biggest mistakes?
Jeff Zimmerman
12:04
Inseason, I don't evaluate the players on my team enough and just keep playing my core guys.
