Hello friends
GBS42
10:59
Welcome back, Nick. I hope you're fully healed for the long grind of the rest of the season.
Rae

Hey Nick! Glad to hear you're feeling better! Are you fully back or playing through it?
Nicklaus Gaut
10:59
The latter but it'll be fine
Glad to back, y'all

Lets talk ball

I need to set my SP for this week in an NL-only 5x5. Ben Brown gets two starts, so I'm deciding whether to put him on for Tylor Megill or Griffin Canning. What do you think? Thanks!
Nicklaus Gaut
11:01
Ben Brown, all day
well, lets not get too carried away
but a start against the A's is almost always going to be ideal this year

Would you rather have Realmuto or Moreno? Other catchers available on the wire include O'Hoppe, Kirk, Heim, Murphy (IL), Bart and Goodman.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:02
I'd prefer O'Hoppe and not by an insignificant margin
Moreno/Realmuto are similar values in my eyes, just depends on what cats you're focused on
11:03
but I see O'Hoppe as around the last of the 'good' catchers before a big gap to the realmuto/moreno tier

With the yankee home run surge and the new bats, how long before the rest of the teams follow suit? Is it feasible to do it in season?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:03
Soon, and yes.
At least, I'm assuming
11:04
Regardless of what the actual advantages end up being, MLB loves to copycat marginal edges like this (well, at least some teams do) and I can't imagine the same thing not happening with the ol' torpedoes
11:05
The physics/construction isn't a secret and I believe new bats can be tooled up pretty fast these days.
Maybe it's a bit before we see ones used in games but I have to imagine the gears are moving now

Colorado and Pittsburgh have both lost games because they took out the starting pitcher too early.  If the other team wants you to do something, then maybe you shouldn't be doing it.    I can deal with taking out pitchers when there are better options, but there isn't a better option when somebody is just dominating the other team.  The Cash/Snell episode in 2020 World Series is the poster child for this stupidity.  Don't tell me that it is a long season.  The same pitcher will struggle in the next start and they leave him in longer than the dominant start because they say that they want to save the pen.  It constantly happens.   Venting done.  My question is:  with an over/under at 82.5, do you have the Rays over or under?  thank you.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:05
  1. Under
11:06
B. That drives me nuts, too. It's just teams being cute for the sake of trying to be clever

how much of a better season does Tucker have compared to Harper?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:07
Much better but not much, much better?
11:08
I had Tucker as an easy top-10 guy and had Harper closer to 20. Like both but I got Tucker in front by a good chunk
Ugh
11:08
I messed up my 5x5 roto AL draft and ended up with Mitch Garver at catcher. Should I dump him in favor of d'Arnaud, Escarra, Narvaez, Pereda, Rortvedt, or Sanchez—or is Garver the best of that bad bunch?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:09
Ehh, probably -- him, d'Arnaud, and Sanchez are pretty similar to me (but much better than all of the rest you listed).
No man
11:09
who’s your choice between two possibly good young 1B’s, Toglia or Soderstrom.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:10
I'd still lean Toglia (more proven, Coors, not on the A's, etc) but do think Soderstrom's arrival will be legit

How worried should J-Ram fantasy teams be? Cleveland’s offense looks poised for a pretty terrible year, and now he’s jammed his wrist.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:10
We can breathe, I think
Just a sprain, day-to-day according to skip
11:11
not that you should ever trust an MLB manager because they generally peddle in falsehoods and half-truths
but I'm not worried
In this corner…
11:11
In my 5x% league that has a 1b, 3b, and corner position, I found myself with Royce Lewis, who I stupidly didn't know was injured so severely. I can reserve him and replace him with one of Will Wagner (no-power, no-speed), Yoan Moncada (another injury risk), Miguel Vargas (so far, just potential), Rowdy Tellez (part-time power), or Ty France (too old? for a comback). Who should I pick?

Thanks
Nicklaus Gaut
11:12
I'd probably roll with the upside of Vargas but would be prepared to jettison if he's still a pumpkin
11:13
not that a weekend matters in the long run but he was hitting the ball a lot harder in spring and has now opened up the season doing the same thing
He's averaged 86mph the past two seasons (IE it's really hard to be good there) but it at 93mph early
again EARLY!
