Alright peeps we are underway!
Before we start, Happy Jackie Robinson Day to all the baseball fans out there!
1:01
And if I don't get to any questions, please feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @MarioMergola
With that said, let's dive in...

Chris Paddack and Javier Baez for winker, brantley, and hampson?
Mario Mergola
1:02
I'd rather be on the Paddack/Baez side of the deal. Paddack looks like a great "positive regression" pitcher right now, and you would need one of Winker/Brantley/Hampson to outperform their numbers for the whole season to justify the deal.

Am I over thinking but Ryan McMahon for Kyle tucker is a no brained right? I would be getting tucker
Mario Mergola
1:03
A fellow "Mario" (unless it was being addressed to me). Yes, namesake Mario, you are overthinking it. I love McMahon also and am targeting here wherever I can, but Tucker has the higher ceiling.
Jesse

Mario, who would you recommend as ideal buy low candidates now? As well as sell high? Thank you.
Mario Mergola
1:05
Thanks for the question, Jesse! I'll answer this one in pieces so I can bounce back and forth.... I'm not going to be too aggressive with it, but I would like to be adding Keston Hiura, Austin Riley, Tommy Pham, Charlie Blackmon, Joey Votto, and Miguel Sano. Any of those adds would have to be at a lowwwwww price.

Trade  Trey Turner and Bregman    for Yelich, Correa and Cruz
Mario Mergola
1:07
I saw this question in the queue before the chat started, and.... it's tough. I generally like to be on the side of the fewer players (simply because I'd like to condense my roster's talent as opposed to expand it). Unless you are desperate for power and have an abundance of speed, I'd want Turner/Bregman.

should I trade tatis? I’m first in Wins, Saves, ERA, but last in AVG and OPS. I think he hold a lot of value still.
Mario Mergola
1:08
Wow, imagine how good that team will be if Tatis comes back and hits like we know he can! Unless you are filling many holes, I wouldn't trade Tatis now.
Josh
1:08
Would you consider targeting Lourdes Gurriel Jr right now?
Mario Mergola
1:09
Short answer: yes. Long answer, at a bare minimum price. He's hitting roughly .140 worse than he did in 2020. That's impossibly bad. If he ends the year at .277 (his worst as a professional) that means he's hitting above that for the rest of the way. So, yes.
Jesse

I fear Riley's inadequacy to hit right-handed pitchers...otherwise I see the others as excellent candidates.
Mario Mergola
1:10
Definitely yes, and he's one of the guys I'm always worried will lose playing time. But the power is there, and it's hard to ignore that.

First year with “Holds” as a category, HELP!!!
Mario Mergola
1:11
I used to hate holds as a category, until you realize how cheap they are. Go out and keep adding 1-3 (based on roster space) relievers who are currently getting holds. You'll see them start to slide into the closer role (and you'll look smart as if you were ahead of the curve) or simply deliver what you need: holds. Don't pay for holds in a trade. Just add bullpen arms.

Trying to trade for a cheap source of stolen bases.  What are your thoughts on benitendi?    Would give up German Marquez for him.
Mario Mergola
1:13
I think it's fine. I never like trading a starting pitcher for a stat I'm chasing, but Marquez doesn't scream that it'll be a mistake. His FIP is at a career-high, so his ERA might follow (in the wrong direction). It's an okay deal, but just know the risk of moving any SP.

Brain fart and drafter 2 DH’s (Ohtani & Cruz) which one would you trade out of them?
Mario Mergola
1:14
Wow that's actually NOT a bad place to be, right now. If you have Ohtani as the hitter only, then I'd deal him (hard to trust him with his injury history). If Ohtani is a dual-eligible player, that ranks higher to me.

Hi Mario, 3 pitcher dilemmas - kluber, keuchel, taillon... Are we still holding for now or would you drop for the cobbs or gibson's or duffy's of the world?
Mario Mergola
1:16
That is a dilemma.... I don't see myself dropping any of the 3 just yet, but mainly because each one has a path to a better season. Kluber is an odd one because we haven't seen him do anything in years, but he's historically worse in Mar/April (4.01 career ERA) than any other month.

What do make of Huascar Ynoa? I picked him up for a spot start Monday and while the Braves pen blew it for his W, is he worth holding?
Mario Mergola
1:17
Have to hold onto him right now. If, for no other reason, he's a hot commodity that is getting attention. Trade him if you want, but you acquired him for free and his value is only going up.

Should we be worried about Max Fried?
Mario Mergola
1:18
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but yes. I see nothing in his numbers to think that he'll suddenly go back to normal (FIP is astronomical), but I'll also pump the brakes because we know what he could be. I wouldn't go overboard, but "worried"? Yes.

Should I drop TOMMY PHAM, L.GURRIEL JR. For Jazz Chisholm
Mario Mergola
1:19
If Chisholm runs as much as we want him to, then I'd make the swap from Pham (since it's likely you expected some speed from him). I like Chisholm, and I've been adding him wherever I can.

What should I do with Austin Riley? Should I hold onto him or drop him for someone like Shaw or kiner-falefa?
Mario Mergola
1:20
Trick question because, if you play on Yahoo, Kiner-Falefa is a must add. He's C-eligible despite playing all over the place for TEX. So he's tremendously valuable. Otherwise, I'm sticking with Riley a little longer.

When do you feel we see Kelenic, Witt, and Wander come up to majors?
Mario Mergola
1:22
A few people are asking about Kelenic, so I want to answer this here for all: NOW is the time to be adding or holding Kelenic. Do not drop. Within the next 1-2 weeks, we should be past the Service Time threshold (I think the latest is early May) and I would be shocked if Kelenic isn't up by then.

Conversely, I'd be shocked if Franco or Witt are. I think we see Franco in June at the earliest (and not even then), and I don't think we see Witt this year unless KC really feels it needs to get some attention.

I have T. France, I. Happ and M. Straw.  Would you drop any of them for T. Shaw?
Mario Mergola
1:22
I'm souring on Myles Straw, so yes, I'd drop him for T. Shaw.

Need hitting and want to sell high on Rodon. In an AL only league who is an OF or CI I should target for a trade?
Mario Mergola
1:25
What a perfect time to try to move Rodon! You do know that savvy fantasy managers are going to hesitate to overpay, but you can lean on the fact that he's started two games and hasn't allowed a run.

I think your best bet is to aim for a need so that the deal presents itself with a purpose (i.e. if you need power, go after Gallo). It's the opposite of an answer I gave earlier where I wouldn't trade a SP for a need just for the sake of it. Here, you are trying to capitalize on the high price or simply move on.
