RedSox, Bregman: does adding the huge annual salary this year, actually help the chances of lower salaried guys like Anthony and Campbell making the club out of ST? Any correlation?
Ray Murphy
12:40
I don't think there's any correlation. Sox are still at or below lux tax, so no need for payroll shenanigans.

(OK, NOW I'm done with Sox talk...)

Thanks, Ray, for doing these chats … Spring must finally be here.  Do you have any sense about how the Athletics intend to handle their outfield?  Is Ruiz in their plans, or do they have a better plan with Rooker, Bleday, Butler, and Brown?
Ray Murphy
12:41
Brian Entrekin touched on the A's OF and Ruiz in his PT Tomorrow column earlier this week. Short answer: there is a path for Ruiz there.

12 team mix roto draft - what closers are targets for you in the bottom 1/3 of the draft pool? Thanks!
Ray Murphy
12:44
I hate playing this particular game so much that I've been avoiding it by paying up for top-end closers in early drafts. I'll probably back off that as we get deeper into draft season and more closer roles get cleared up.

I haven't checked where Jansen's ADP has landed since the signing, but I think he's a relatively safe mid-tier option. I've thrown some very late picks at Tyler Kinley in COL. In between those levels is a lot of muck that I don't feel like I have a good handle on. Even Boston... I'll take some Slaten shares, the Whitlock reports are pretty promising, but it all remains to be seen if Hendriks can take the gig and run with it (which I assume is what Cora prefers).

16 team 6x6 ops holds weekly H2H- order of preference for you: Ronel Blanco, Taj Bradley, Cody Bradford, Severino, Civale, Grant Holmes? Thank you
Ray Murphy
12:45
Taj, Blanco, Severino, Bradford, Civale, Holmes.

Roto Draft that cuts 275 players into the pool. Looking at 1b v 3b options and wanted to ask which late round pool is more exciting to you at each respective position (1b/3b).
Ray Murphy
12:46
Which pool as in which position? Tough to answer quickly. Market Pulse is your friend on this topic.

Will Shaw's projections reflect more AB's and production now that Bregman has signed?
Ray Murphy
12:48
You mean, more PT for Shaw because we know Bregman isn't coming to Chicago? We weren't reserving any playing time there, we might do that early in the offseason sometimes, but not this late. We have Shaw at 55% PT and about half a dozen other guys sprinkled with PT behind him. There's definitely room for us to bump up Shaw as camp goes on. Of course, if the Cubs were hedging on Shaw too, they might have another move coming now that they missed out on Bregman. Only so much can be certain in mid-February.

Thanks for the chat, Ray. Dynasty, NL-only, 12 team. I have Ben Brown in second contract year at a great price (.20). Looks like Boyd, Rea, and others have SP slots ahead of him.  Worth a draft day roster spot or toss back? Good chance, too, that he may starts season in Iowa.
Ray Murphy
12:52
Yeah, Cubs have a lot of options stashed. Brown will eventually get a chance, I'm sure, but you may have to wait a while. Might be one of those situations where Iowa is actually good news, if it indicates they want to keep him stretched out rather than just put him in the pen. Not an easy call, I'm afraid.

Do you prefer Imanga or Freddie Peralta?
Ray Murphy
12:53
Slight preference for Imanaga, but a bunch depends on the rest of your staff... this is really a "do you like K's or ratios" question.

Giving the people what they want... apparently we can wrap up with one more round of Sox Talk. :)

Before the rest of you tune out, though... one quick announcement: we're about to open signups for First Pitch Online, which will be coming up in two weeks... Feb 27th through Mar 2nd weekend. Four straight days of drinking from the firehose to get ready for the season. Details coming very soon!

Ray, as you are up in Boston, what’s the current take on Yoshida?  Is he trade bait?  Or, does he have to be packaged with someone like Casas to move him?
Ray Murphy
12:56
I think if he were healthy he'd be trade bait, but they can't deal him coming off of shoulder surgery. I don't think it takes a Casas stapled to him to unload him. They'll just have to eat some money. Might happen in-season, or maybe they just make due this year and unload him next winter.

A few nights ago, I dreamt I bought the Red Sox. I hired you as GM with a 4 year contract. You have real depth. Would you have offered Bregman that contract?
Ray Murphy
12:58
Funny, I've never been a huge Bregman fan, but it makes a lot of sense for the current Sox situation. They have not been spending money (famously) for the last 4-5 years, so you're never going to catch me complaining when they do open the wallet. There's no real collapse risk here in a 3-year deal, $30MM/yr after deferrals isn't as bad as it first sounded, and they're still under the tax. So I'm quite good with it... as I said earlier, as long as he's playing 3B and not 2B.

Can you answer one more question?  Which of these statements is correct:Is Bregman a Red Sox, a Red Sock, or something else (like "a member of the Red Sox")?
Ray Murphy
12:59
I'm not sure this is correct, but I've always written it as Red Sox but spoken it as Red Sock if it's meant to be singular.
Ray Murphy
12:59
And on that note, let's wrap this one up. Thanks for the great questions.... as I said up top, we'll try to make this a weekly thing on Fridays. Until next week!
