Good Monday, chatters! The questions are back in force; should be able to get to em all... which means less dilly-dallying here at the top!

3 players can keep 2. 5x5 with OBP. 15 team mixed. E. Ruiz/Oak $18, S. Torkelson/Detroit $14, N. Gorman/StL $8..thank you
Brent Hershey
12:03
Tork and Gorman; love both for this year and both have more secure playing time outlooks.

I enjoyed you chat with Patrick Davitt on last week’s podcast. Which minors leaguers over the years are you most and least proud of when it comes to what you projected for them, and what have you learned from that which you have ap
Brent Hershey
12:10
Thanks; chatting with PD is always a blast. (More BHQ radio info here). Rough call is easy: Scott Kingery. Was sure he was going to be a 2B and top-of-the-lineup staple. (Sixto Sánchez and Victor Robles, though, have entered the chat also.)
Going back a bit for one of the guys I'm most proud of—there are more in each category, of course. But I saw something in MIN 2B Brian Dozier early on in Double-A way back when, before I knew anyone was talking about him. And had a nice little run there as a solid hitting 2B. Remember something similar with Jordan Montgomery in AA, too ...

Picking my last 4 keepers in NL-only, 10-team, $260 league. Choices: Campusano ($5 salary / $6 BHQ CDG projection), Estrada $10/$17, Tovar $10/$13, McLain $10/$17, M. Keller $5/$9 and E. Phillips $11/$14. Obviously, am also asking if your choice deviates from the BHQ $ projection listed above. Which 4 would you keep, and in which order?  Is the last pick close?
Brent Hershey
12:14
More or less in order:
Estrada, Phillips, Campusano and ... McLain, probably, with Tovar being close, yes. Part of this I wonder if Phillips is this year's J Duran -- going into last season, was only the manager that was keeping Duran from big save totals, even though skills/results were an easy slam-dunk for end of games. Not saying Phillips has Duran's stuff at all -- but maybe Roberts turns to EP more than we think (and yes, I heard Roberts' hedge the other day ....)

What do you have that replaces the Mack Program?

This is a BHQ-specific question; we will have LeagueSync ready to debut in a few weeks. More info here: https://www.baseballhq.com/articles/research/gms-office/frequently-ask...

Im seeing E, Ruiz getting shaded bt pundits. im in a 4x4 AL only keeper league. I want to trade for him. your thougths?
Brent Hershey
12:18
It's an easy shade; big SB makes him kind of a one-tricky pony. As for trading for him in a keeper league ... if you feel you're in contention this year but are short on steals, Ruiz could be a fit. But his long-term value is shaky because there will likely aways be more well-rounded real players vying for his job in OAK. Even in OAK, I should say. 2 years from now (maybe even 1?) I highly doubt he's OAK's opening day CFer.

Is projected value a fair stat for comparing a SP to a Hitter?  During a draft, especially early, how do you decide between Goldschmidt or Glasnow?  Is it roster construction?  Value?  looking ahead and seeing who the replacement will be if you skip one or the other?  what is the best way to make that determination?
Brent Hershey
12:22
Always a mix, but roster construction is important for sure. In the example you give (a good one), taking Glasnow would make me shift a bit towards more sure-thing (history of durability) SPs to pair him with as you put together the rest of your staff. OTOH, Goldschmidt is rock-solid, but doesn't have the upside impact at this point that Glasnow MIGHT. Looking ahead and knowing what's available as options in those positions is a huge part of that, for sure. But it's all part of this fascinating puzzle as we put these teams together, IMO. Most of all, enjoy it!

Will there be an online First Pitch again this year for those of us who weren’t able to make it in person?
Brent Hershey
12:22
Yep, we'll do another all-day online offering on Saturday, March 9. More details soon!

Is Wander Franco done with ever playing in the MLB?
Brent Hershey

With the current information we have, yes.

12:24
In a standard head to head points league. Would you draft Bobby Miller or Cole Ragans?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Miller. Better control, much better team (assuming Ws is a category), likely around the same # of IP for the year.

Hunter Greene adding more pitches - news or noise? At least he’s trying to make adjustments I guess?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Well, it's news for sure (you can't make up adding pitches, right?). BUT ... we'll definitely be able to see how impactful that news is when we get to see him in spring game action. If he refuses to use them in game situations, or those pitches get hit hard/are ineffective, etc ... then the  pronouncement doesn't mean much, IMO.

More likely scenario regarding the late 1st early 2nd rounders; Trea Turner .285 20/40 - Yordan 600 ABs - Soto MVP candidate - Olson 2023 repeat
Brent Hershey
12:30
Turner or Soto much more likely than Yordan/Olson. I'd slightly lean Turner I think, given his longer track record. But Soto a clear #2 if TT is not available to you.

Who would you rank in order, top to bottom, the following qualified second base free agents in my league - Brandon Drury, Brandon Lowe, Willi Castro, Jorge Polanco, and Brendan Donovan?  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:32
League setup/categories matter, but void of those, I'd go:
  1. Polanco
  2. Drury
  3. Castro
  4. Lowe
  5. Donovan
The final 2 just have PT risk that Polanco/Drury don't.

Good morning Brent Who do you think will be this year's Kyle Bradish -one SP for AL and NL please? Pitcher who takes the next leap and may not have been on everyone's radar.  Also, speaking of Kyle Bradish, would you keep him in a 12 team 5x5 team dynasty league where I have him for $1 as a B player or do you feel like the rish isn't work it? As always, I appreciate your insight! Greg
Brent Hershey
12:37
The radar part is tricky, as it's very context-dependent. So gonna give two from different ADP price points per league:
AL - Bryce Miller, Kutter Crawford
NL - Brandon Pfaadt, MacKenzie Gore
At a buck, I'd probably keep Bradish -- but assuming that you need to decide next year on his status, not opposed to dropping him, either. Just doesn't sound real good.

I have the number two pick in a keeper league( you can keep for up to 3 years only, starting with year you draft). Available will be B Witt, JRod, Judge, Betts , Ohtani....everything points to Witt or JRod, but would you consider taking Judge if it was an 8x8 league with HR, RBI, R , TB+W, SLG, OBP,SB, AVG?      Thnk You
Brent Hershey
12:42
Yeah, given those categories, can see your case here, as the power+walks aspect is huge. I actually wonder if Soto, given his specific skill set, is a less risky (again from health perspective) option than Judge. But yes, I think you could lean one of those over most of the others.

Hello Brent, In a dynasty 6x6 OBP league where we can keep up to our entire roster and I finished in 7th place during year 2 of the rebuild of a team I took over. I spent last season getting every post-hype prospect or young talent I could while holding on to young players like Vlad and I have a lot of the talented but let’s see how the season goes type of players (ex. Moreno, Davis, Gelof, Walker, N Jones, etc.) on the roster. With the empty roster spots giving you picks at the end of the draft am I getting enough value with a draft pick or am I better off holding onto those players, not having a draft pick, and then dropping them early if someone else takes off or if they don’t work out? Every time I consider dropping Gelof, Davis or others I wonder if I’d actually get a better player. I do think Yamamoto, Langford, Crews, etc. would be gone before I have a pick and pre-2023 draft pick prospects are mostly on minor league spots already
Brent Hershey
12:46
I think I'd hold onto what you have. Of course depends on who's available in the draft, which it sounds like you won't know until after cut day. The fact that teams don't have a max keeper list would make me likely to keep the level of players you have here. I mean, you don't expect them ALL to work out, right? You shouldn't ... but throwing these guys back now seem to set you back in the process. You liked these players enough last year, stick with em for 2024 and then make your decisions on whether they'll be a part of your next team in the running. Good luck; fun question!

one more. please AL only 4x4 keeper. is liam worth a buck for next yesar at this years auction?

Oh, yes for sure, as long as you have the slots/space to hold all season. This is purely a 2025 play.

Thanks for the chat. Play in a 12-team, NL-keeper league, with 17 reserve slots (yeah, 40-man rosters). Each draft, I like to take a few flyers on call-ups who do not have prospect pedigree but who can definitely contribute given opportunity. This year, guys like Jacob Hurtubise, Blake Dunn, and Jesse Franklin seem fall into the category. Who are some ideal NL call-up targets that will begin the season toiling in the high minors?
Brent Hershey
12:54
Yeah that's a tough for sure. Like Dunn the best out of that trio. Maybe Troy Johnston (MIA), Hunter Goodman (COL), Heliot Ramos (SF)? I will say that for this exercise, it seems better to focus on MLB teams with less-stable lineups, who have more natural opportunities. Usually means bottom-feeder clubs like COL, WAS, PIT types.

12:56
Who is your bet for biggest bust and/or being overdrafted based on ADP?
Brent Hershey
12:56
Elly De La Cruz's risk is just so high for a 2nd round pick. No doubt boom potential, but the risk give the other choices there is too much. Also think Skubal and McLain, a bit further down, are being overdrafted.

Hi Brent,

Scoresheet format.  Need to cut one these starting pitchers:
  • Bailey Ober
  • Michael King
  • Chris Bassitt
And, I need to cut one of these catchers:
  • Shea Langeliers
  • Danny Jansen
  • Ryan Jeffers
Please advise.  Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:59
Pitcher - King, though I don't like it at all. :-) But, gotta have innings; Ober is a no-doubter for me. King's injury history and short SP track record says he's the cut
Catcher: Langeliers. Power, but awful OBP. Realize Jansen can't stay healthy but has a history of strong bb%. Feel like Jeffers is an up-and-comer.

Hey Brent, as always thank you for the great content.   A few questions for a 12-Team, AL-Only 4x4 Roto Keeper ($260 budget 14/9).  What to do w/ Bradish at $10?  Elbow news is worrisome.
