AL - Crochet
NL - Yamamoto (though a bit of usage concern there—6 man). Cris Sánchez a close #2

I've really enjoyed the online BABS leagues and others you've had in the past.  Will you be offering them again, and if so, any idea when sign ups begin?
Brent Hershey

Yes, those should be coming very soon.

Hi Brent,

In my 12 team, NL-only Scoresheet league, I'm struggling with the last of my 13 protected players.  I was set to drop McNeil and retain Noelvi Marte as my third OF.

And then I read Nickrand's LIMA targets posted this morning.    McNeil has a projected BPX of 206 (same as Alonso).  McNeil's projections for BB%, contact%, and OPS are all much better than Marte's.  In addition, McNeil is a plus 2 defender at 2B and a +1 in the OF.  Marte is a -5 at 3B and a +2 in the OF.  Comparing RAR:  7.4 for McNeil; -4.2 for Marte.

Is this the slam dunk it seems to be?  Or does Marte's ceiling and age offset the one-year projections?  For context, I am playing for this season after enduring a three-year rebuild.

One additional question:  what is the difference between BPV and BPX?  BPV appears on player link and BPX is often referred to various articles.

As always, I truly appreciate your insight.

Playing for this year in Scoresheet, yeah I might lean McNeil (though projecting a step up from Noelvi could even this out; hard for me to get a read on that probability).

BPX is BPV indexed to league average. So 110 BPX is a skills set that is 10% above the league average at that position. We're mostly moved away from BPV, but still exists in several spots as you say. Hope this helps; thanks!

Do you see Seranthony thriving in the ChiSox closer role?
Brent Hershey
12:51
It's possible, but his challenge has always been consistently throwing strikes. Perhaps the switch to Chicago (they have some good player development folks in place) could help him in that regard. BUT ... if he's the player he's always been, chances are this is only a partial-season arrangement; that he'll hit a rough stretch at some point and then it comes down to managerial patience.

In a 15 teams AL/NL auction league $260 5x5.  During the auction, high-end players have historically gone $10-15 more than the HQ suggested price.  Do you think its worth chasing one of these studs or budget more equally across the board and not chase the Soto and Judges
Brent Hershey
12:53
At times it can def be worth chasing. You have to be super aware with spending the rest of the way to make the most use of your remaining budget. But can be done.

In a points dynasty league (no contracts) where you need 3B help after losing Westburg, is Coby Mayo or Miguel Vargas the better option short and long term? Any reason why?
Brent Hershey
12:55
Vargas better in the short term, no question. Proven in MLB; stable PT in Chicago.
Long-term, Mayo comes into the conversation because of his pure power advantage over Vargas. But this move to 3B is a bit questionable; he was moved off that position for defensive purposes. And, his MLB track record is sketchy. Hope that helps.

There seems to be some thoughts within the HQ camp that Jose Soriano could be a big breakout arm this year. How do you feel about him?
Brent Hershey

Next step up is possible, but not a slam-dunk for me. If I have him (or can acquire him) cheap; he's a keeper. But not chasing in an auction or bumping earlier than ADP.

How scared are you of James Wood's 2nd half K-rate?
Brent Hershey
12:58
A bit, but was such a monster in the 1H and incredibly gifted, and roto-friendly. I'm probably on the 'growing pains that can be fixed' wagon.

I used to be able to sort pitchers by BPV in the CDG.  BPV in the CDG is gone now, replaced by BPX, but BPX in the current CDG does not appear to be sortable.  Any chances BPX becomes sortable in the near future?
Brent Hershey

Interesting point; seems like it should be fixable. I've passed it on to our tech crew. Thanks.

I like Meidroth but it seems like this year there is more competition and the chance he might lose a starting position.  What say you about his PT?
Brent Hershey
1:01
Can see that, though we haven't seen CMont navigate a full season, and his K rate says that could be an issue. Meidroth's PT might be trimmed, but CHW seemed to find lineup spots for him last year.

SEems like Mayo will get his full shot now?  Or will they trade for IParedes?  Even so, has Mayo been overly traumatized to do anything productive in BAL now or is his only hope to get a change of scenery?
Brent Hershey

Seems that way—the full shot—but as mentioned above, I have some skepticism on 3B. Still like some things about the bat, though.
