Yeah, I think you'll only get 2/3s of a season or so? Might be the right call -- maybe that helps his recovery, but difficult to plan around w/r/t fantasy. Couldn't hurt to shop him; only takes one. Does seem to be a better fit for a rebuilding fantasy team in 2024 than a contender, though.

As an old school HQ member (since the 90s), I am having trouble discerning between the extreme influx of new data in recent years and how to prioritize which ones to focus on the most (and which ones are not as important).  For example, I am still trying to figure out QBaB and why I should care about launch angle variability.

First of all ... thank you! Members like you are the backbone of our success. Filtering through what to pay attention to, and what might not be so important is a valuable task. One thing is that if you have continued to have success and are NOT dipping into all the new stuff, maybe just keeping doing what you're doing? Keep it fun, after all.
QBaB is just a shorthand way to think about exit velocity/launch angle/barrels, which all have been shown to be correlated in some extent to power output. So some find that just as compelling as xPX  or our HctX metric. Scoring well in variability means the chances for barrels is higher, because a hitter's launch angle range (if it's in the right range, of course) is smaller.

Is Logan Gilbert and Bobby Miller as your SP 1&2 in a 12 H2H categories league enough to compete on a week to week basis?
Brent Hershey
12:50
Gilbert - yes; Miller -- could be. Feel like he's on the cusp, but in a 12-teamer, I'd probably like more certainty (track record) than what Miller has so far. I'd probably prioritize a VG SP3 if you're staring out with those two.

Thanks for sharing your insights thru these chats. It is much appreciated. I’m in a 10 team mixed 5x5 league with 7 keepers. Who would you retain out of Gaussman, Fried, Eury Perez, Brayan Bello, J. Luzardo, T. Bibee, N. Castellanos, Jordan Walker, Thairo Estrada, Triston Casas, Bellinger, and Ozuna?
Brent Hershey
12:53
Guasman, Perez, Luzardo, Casas, Estrada, Bellinger, Castellanos. Could make a case, though, for Bibee > Casty, I think. Ozuna is worth it, too ... I just am not a fan of locking up DH like that so soon. Fun group, tho.

HI! Welcome to a new season! NL 10 team 5x5 (we use toppers - freeze a guy and top on his auction price by $1 and he's yours). I have toppers on O Cruz, T Turner and I have EDC for $10. I also have CES for $10. Should I try to get all 3 SSs or trade one away?   I worry that the Reds have too many IF guys. How do you see the PT working out?
Brent Hershey
12:56
I'd probably seek to trade away O Cruz; and target keeping Turner/Elly. And likely would attempt to keep CES at that price, also. As for the Reds, I think the guys that are current hurt -- India and McLain -- could get the short end of PT. The fact that BOTH are injuries that seem (my call) related to last year's injuries does not bode well. Good luck -- and GO REDS (for you!)

11 team NL only keeper 5 x 5, keep up to 15. OF keepers are Suzuki at $16, Alek Thomas at $6.50. Is Brandon Nimmo a keeper at $18.50?
Brent Hershey
12:57
Probably not, though in many cases I've found Nimmo undervalued fwiw. Might mean you could target him for cheaper in the draft

O. Cruz or J. Lawler in dynasty OBP?
Brent Hershey

Lawlar

Does Vinnie P coming off a torn labrum scare you a little for this year? I know the data isn't great for guys coming back from that injury.
Brent Hershey
12:58
Yes, a bit. Think he's about appropriately priced.

What are your thoughts on Mackenzie Gore and Emmet Sheehan this year?
Brent Hershey
12:59
A fan of both ... especially Gore in this case, whose spot in the rotation is more set than Sheehan's right now as I see it. Do like Sheehan overall, however; just might take a year or two to get there.

Keeper toss-up with deadline approaching: Royce Lewis or Tarik Skubal?  Either can be kept essentially for free, for up to three years. Context is 5x5 H2H (OBP and QS), priority is winning this year (extra earlier round draft picks acquired through trades). Other keepers are Strider and Nolan Jones. Typically almost always lean hitter over pitcher, but given injury profile Royce feels uniquely risky both this year and beyond (not that Skubal is without his own elevated injury risk).
Brent Hershey
1:00
Tough. But yes I might lean Skubal here.

Deep 12-team, NL only. Help me get over my hesitancy to draft a portly 3B with Burger as surname. Is Jake going to blow up, in a good way, in 2024?
Brent Hershey
1:00
Yes. Get over it. :-)

Hi Brent!  I have the fifth pick in my 5x5 draft and am gathering the top five picks from multiple sources.  Everyone says Acuna is #1 but after that there are a lot of names: Julio, Witt, Mookie, Freeman, Tatis, Ohtani, Carrol, Yordan, and for pitchers Strider, Cole, Burnes, or Wheeler.  Who's in your top five?
Brent Hershey
1:02
Roughly, after Acuna, my list is Witt, Julio, Carroll for sure (want SB). #5 is a Betts/Tucker toss-up.

Expecting a big year from Riley Greene? He's projected for $21 but only .281-17-7 which isn't flashy
Brent Hershey

Think the possibility is there talent-wise; but not sure how body will hold up w/r/t the offseason TJS. Always been a big fan.

What do we expect for Shane Baz? He's 18 months removed from TJ so I would have thought he'd be ready to go
Brent Hershey
1:03
Rays playing it cautiously. That gives me some pause given his current ADP.

What is Maikel Garcia's upside for 2024?
Brent Hershey

.280-12-60-30 SB? Think there's things to like here.

Alright all ... got to most everything; a fun (and quick) hour as always. Say hi if you're coming to FPFLA this weekend; someone will be back in this hour next week to answer more. See ya!
