  • Please "@name" anyone you're addressing.
  • This chat is moderated, to keep things organized. I will post everyone's questions/comments, but there may be a lag. The exception will be duplicate questions/comments. I also reserve the right not to post anything from anyone who doesn't identify themselves.

Thanks everyone...we'll get started shortly!

We have a couple of special guests who will be dropping in: Barry Sandoval of Heritage Auctions and podcast regular Gene Park. They'll stay as long as they can. I have a couple of questions to ask, and then we'll open it up. PLEASE be patient, as all questions/comments are in a queue; we'll get to as many as we can, in order. Thanks!

(Barry is VP, in charge of comics/comic art. Gene owns G.I. JOE #21 complete interiors. Oh, and both pretty decent human beings!)

Hi all - just listened to the podcast. Appreciated Gene's measured take on the GI Joe #21 cover.
Felix Lu
3:01
Hey Barry...so this $3.36M sale...was crypto behind it?
Barry Sandoval
3:02
Not as far as I know! I know we accept bitcoin but I don't personally know of anyone who's using it to pay.
Felix Lu
3:04
It would be funny if tangible, physical art became compelling to jpg collectors. Regardless, though...do you foresee 7-figure sales becoming a regular thing now? Or even the norm? For art that collectors have deemed significant? Have the floodgates been opened?
Barry Sandoval
3:04
I think it's possible for truly exceptional pieces. (Not sure I should be your Nostradamus of choice since I never thought we would be where we are today!)

hello

Just got to Gene's comment about a potential cooling off & reassessment, as well as possible rate hike implications.  That's where my head is at.  Way fewer bigger targets (for me), more selective on modern art, and (hopefully) a couple of Felix Comic Art commissions when lists are opened.

Was the smart money on the Cowboys or the Secret Wars page?

I enjoyed today’s podcast. Still confused by the amount paid for the Secret Wars page.

You accept ETH too, and people have said they pay HA with crypto..

@Felix @Barry I saw random internet comments suggesting it was for the purposes of a big tax write off. Don't know how feasible that really is though.
Mike Cichy
3:06
That was not an exceptional piece of art.

Barry - Have you seen a noticeable increase in consignments the last week in response?
Ron Lim
3:06
Hey guys.
Gene Park
3:06
LOL, I don't think even the most cock-eyed optimist thought we'd be where we are today!

I know Barry can't confirm anything, but, after digesting everything the past couple of days, my guess is that it was as "usual suspect" with a penchant for black costume Spidey.
Felix Lu

Is a sale like a double-edge sword for Heritage? Is there an outsized expectation now among consignors? Do you risk disappointment? If future auctions don't hit these highs, what sort of message does that then send to the market?
Barry Sandoval
3:06
Expectations are high but we will try and keep things realistic. Your Mike Zeck Charlton page probably will not get to seven figures ... and to answer the other question if we go a few auctions without a million-dollar piece, or even a $500,000 piece, I will not be worried!

I’m with Gene, we are going to have four — at least — Fed hikes this year and the world is going to deal with declining risk premiums for the first time in more than a decade
