@doug - I travel with my first portfolio ever - about 18x24 and 1" thick.  I've never had an issue.  I usually do it, a carry on and a backpack, but there's nothing important in the carry-on if I get hassled about having three items

I've never had a problem on Alaska, but American made me check the carry on once

@don, getting to the con and hotels aside, I think yes, it's for all budgets. Lots of artists with stacks of recent and older stuff, and then of course the dealers have the range of pricing.
