Hello from Atlanta!
Jason D
11:28
hello everyone! This should be interesting... I had posted on both threads yesterday and was sad to see it deteriorate so quickly. But I do think it is a good topic to discuss as sometimes to a collector pricing doesn’t quite make sense when going from creator to creator .

In the end, the market decides. The market always decides. But some people have issue with that when the market moves beyond them. My issue is that many of the same people who rail against the market when they try to buy, then hope the market works for them when it's time to sell. They are totally blind to their own hypocrisy.

@abe I was able to get a print by him last round

Thanks Felix, looking forward to that

Hello,

@Felix... no shit... man I'd go bonkers over a James Jean doodle lol

I am new to collecting and am pumped to be getting my first commission from Ryan Stegman this year. Just wanted to say thanks for your professionalism, transparency, and friendly demeanor. It makes being new to this much more enjoyable.
Felix Lu
11:31
You're welcome! I'm not perfect (as evidenced in the FB thread), but I'm a collector first, and try to treat all collectors how I like to be treated. Again, not perfect, but I try.

Just a thought. As it seems there will be no conventions in the US or Europe this year. and knowing commission lists seems to be a big success; do you think that it will be harder for conventions to attract big names in 2021, as artists will have experiences a stronger demand for at-home commissions in 2020 and will not see the benefit of being on the road for a few days without the guarantee of earning the same amount of money. What do you think ?
Felix Lu
11:31
I think people will want to go to shows again, including artists, because we all miss them. The business aspect will be secondary. At least in the beginning, when we get to the other side of this.

Great job on getting all these commission lists going.
Felix Lu
11:32
Thanks Tom (everyone else, collecting royalty in the house).

@Felix, For the most part, your entire group of artists has a common theme stylistically. Do you approach them for representation or do they come to you or is it a mix of both?
Felix Lu
11:34
In the beginning, I sought out the artists. Since then, in the last 5 years or so, artists have come to me, thanks to the word of mouth. There are a lot of factors in deciding who to bring on board. So far, it's worked out beautifully.

How is everyone doing in self-isolation?
Eranga Devasurendra
11:34
@Rob, I agree Felix handled it with way more grace than I would’ve.
Jason D
11:34
Hmm- I thought I sent this already but I don’t see it so apologies if it comes through 2x. Felix thanks for putting this together. I had posted on both threads yesterday and was sad to see how it deteriorated so quickly but I do think it is a good topic to discuss because as a collector sometimes these prices don’t make a lot of sense to me when comparing from one creator to another .

It makes me happy to see artists being successful. Love hearing that all of those recent lists have been filled within hours.
Felix Lu
11:35
Thanks Gabe! I think a big reason is our track record: You guys see every single commission our artists create. There's confidence that quality will be high. And I always try to make the transaction as smooth as possible. It works because everyone does what they're supposed to do. Again, thanks so much to the fans for their support.

@felix that’s crazy! If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. There have been plenty of lists that I’ve wanted to get on but just didn’t work at the time. Politely decline and move on.
Felix Lu
11:36
Yup. The anger, bitterness, and resentment says more about them than anything else. IMO.
Frederic L
11:36
@jason which treads are you referrring to ?
Felix Lu
11:36
They were in a Facebook sketch group.
Dave D
11:36
I'm frustrated over prices myself, but at the rate they sell out they're probably underpriced.
Felix Lu
11:38
That's a point that most fail to appreciate or understand. As high as rates may seem, they could actually be even higher, based on the demand. We settle on rates that we think are FAIR. We DON'T try to get absolute top dollar. Still not good enough for some, but glad you get it. Thanks.

@Felix That was the guy that stuck out the most. His constant deflecting was annoying to read. If he will only buy books from people he can afford commissions from, then his reading list will be very limited from now on.
Felix Lu
11:39
It was all passive-aggressive commentary, which I find annoying. Just say what you mean. And if not being able to exploit an artist for free/cheap art means you won't be their fan anymore...then you were never much of a fan to begin with.
Dan T
11:39
I'll admit I had to really think hard about Tradd's list, but at the end of the day, he was essentially the top name on my want list for commissions and pulled the trigger on where I felt comfortable.
Felix Lu
11:40
We all gotta make these choices in our collecting journey. Nobody can have it all. Not even the biggest collectors.
Keith B
11:40
Congratulations @Ryan P!!!!
Rob E
11:40
Will Riley Rossmo open his list this year?
Felix Lu
11:40
I hope so, but DC is keeping him very, very busy...even now. He's got some killer stuff coming up, keep watching!
Keith B
11:40
I think it behooves creators long term to go out and meet / greet with their fans. And i think everyone enjoys the hell out of it.
Felix Lu
11:41
That's the main reason we do shows: The social aspect. To meet fans, fellow creators, and to just hang out together. It's not business at all.
John Espinoza
11:41
Hey Felix and fellow collectors! So, I just completed 7 years of collecting and I *think* I started the first year you became a rep. So how many years have you been collecting now?
Felix Lu
11:42
Full-on collecting, this is my 16th year. Dabbled before that.
Dan T
11:42
@Frederic L great point.  I go to Dragon Con every year and NYCC last year.  I've pulled forward my commission buys during the outbreak and essentially have no reason for NYCC this year, even though I'm local.  I'll believe Dragon Con occurs when I see it occur, but that I'd go to regardless.
