@joshua s - many people have already given this advice elsewhere, but make the comic you wish you could find on the shelf, the one you wish you were reading. Also, start small - make some short stories. My first few comics were rejected, and it wasn't until I was in my late 30s that I had a book I wrote published. Main thing: don't give up. Good luck.
