9:01
Hey everyone, thanks for joining our chat! Daniel will be here soon!
9:02
We're holding this chat a little earlier than usual because we'll all be at C2E2 this week. Come see us in Artist Alley in V row and say hi!
9:03
Don't forget to "@name" if you have a question/comment for anyone besides me or Daniel. And feel free to ask anything about comic art, it doesn't have to be strictly about Daniel's art...he likes talking about the hobby, too.
Jabba
9:04
Felix, how many Otomo painted pages will you have and what's the price range?
Felix Lu
9:05
We'll have over 200 Steve Oliff color guides from AKIRA in our upcoming sale. Not sure how many Otomo color pieces we'll have yet...probably around a dozen?
9:06
It's ultimately up to Steve, as is the pricing. Still working all that out!
Daniel Warren Johnson
9:07
Hey Everyone!
Jabba

Daniel, now that you've wrapped up Extremity, what's next? Are you interested in doing work for hire for the "big two" or do you plan to stick to creator owned?
Daniel Warren Johnson
9:10
Thanks for the question!  Looks like I’ll be doing more creator owned work, writing and drawing for the foreseeable future.  Some possible one shot work for big two, but those are up in the air. Also, I’ll be doing more covers for Marvel.
Felix Lu
9:10
A bit of a teaser...I've seen the art for Daniel
9:11
's upcoming project. A very cool bonus: All the pages are hand-lettered by Dan! For the first issue, at least.

@jabba that you ryan?
Matt Todd

@Felix: Can't wait for the C2E2 episode of the podcast, I hope we check back in with Chris C. Chris K, and Ron. That was a very fun roundtable.
Felix Lu
9:12
Thanks Matt! And good call...if all goes according to plan, we will have an encore roundtable with those three!
Also, for any podcast fans who are at the show, come see me at our location in Artist Alley (row V). We'll be set up with an open mike, so we can get more folks on the show.

I can't wait to see the Otomo pages! Daniel's Akira posts convinced me to read the series.  I just got vol. 5 yesterday.

Can you tell us more about DWJ's sketching pricing at C2E2 and how it differs from NYCC, sound like he is doing smaller scale sketches?
DWJ
9:15
Sorry I'm a bit late to the party, technical difficulties on my end!  I'm here now and ready to rock.
9:16
Also, news about upcoming project, we are officially going with my hand lettering in every issue.
Cameron, good on you for getting into Akira. It's a body of work that's inspired so many artists.
Felix Lu
9:17
The idea behind that is this: We try to get whatever the market will bear for commissions. However, we also realize that the market rate is no longer as affordable as it once was. So we're going to be offering a very budget-friendly option at C2E2. If it goes well, we may continue it for future shows. Think Dan's daily sketches to get an idea.

Daniel, I love those DKR pages that you recreate. What is the biggest challenge recreating them given that you don’t have to create the layout from scratch? And about how long does it take you to finish one?
Felix Lu
9:18
I started that for my own collection.  Apologies to Dan for opening up that can of worms! But they do look awesome, don't they?
DWJ
9:19
Hey John, thanks for those kind words.  Probably the hardest thing is making sure I'm paying homage to the original artist and his vision, while also staying true to my own style.  It's a fine line to walk, so I do my best.  It's actually much easier to get started, however, since some of the hardest work has been figured out already(composition, pacing, etc).  For something like that, it takes me a full work day, just like a regular comic page of my own would take.  I also usually add some screentones, which I never do on pages for my own art.

Howdy!

Hi Daniel from the uk
Cameron Lentz
9:20
What's up Daniel!
DWJ
9:20
Hello Jimbo, Trask, and Cameron L!  Good to have you here.
9:21
Great to hear from a reader/collector from the UK.
Mike
9:21
When will Daniel's warm up sketches be for sale?  Price range?
Matt Todd
9:21
@Felix and Daniel, if I remember correctly there has been discussions of Felix selling some of Daniel's warm up sketches? Is that still on the agenda and is there a time table for when that might happen?
DWJ
9:21
I'm going to pass the baton to Felix for this one.  He's answering now.
Felix Lu
9:21
Good timing! I'm picking them all up from Daniel this week!
DWJ
9:22
Yes I have quite the stack/
Felix Lu
9:22
After that, it's a matter of fitting them into the calendar...hopefully by the end of this month.
DWJ
9:22
Also, there are a few that I have not posted on social media.
Felix Lu
9:22
Will work out pricing with Dan when I see him...but they should be quite affordable
DWJ
9:24
As for the questions about what the C2E2 sketches will look like:  The size will be 4.5 x 6 inches, and if you look on twitter and IG, my warmups will be almost exactly the same as what you might get at C2E2.
Felix Lu
9:24
I've been getting a lot of inquiries about them, including requests to reserve them early. Just for the record, there will be no advance holds; all the sketches will be dropped at an announced time, as usual. So everyone will have a chance!
Mike

Hi Daniel - Have you added any new original art to your personal collection recently?
