Could see a two-year deal for Geno there though

Why isn’t a guy like Bellinger linked to the Rangers? Are they shedding that much payroll? He could play 1B to replace Burger and cover CF in case Carter goes down.

Yeah just seems like they're nowhere close to that financially. Not ideal that they were putting out there skepticism about landing Realmuto or Arraez

A lot of talk this off season season about Baltimore looking to add a TOR arm. If the Orioles don't acquire a front-end starter what additional moves do they make to strengthen the team? I can see them adding another arm to the 'pen, and a proven utility player. Do they add another mid tier starter if they can't get a true ace?

If they don't sign one of Valdez or Ranger, I'd be fine  taking this rotation into the season and trying to trade for an impact arm at the deadline. Another fourth starter isn't moving the needle much

Mountcastle doesn't fit here anymore. If he's not traded, they're probably better off taking him to an arbitration hearing and cutting him for termination pay. Never made sense to tender him a contract, especially if they knew a run at Alonso was a possibility
5:11
Would like to see them add a lefty bat or switch-hitter as a utility piece. Maybe a middle reliever but feels like Helsley and Kittredge are the leverage guys for now

Do the Pads have another 8 figure signing in them, pitcher or position player, and if so, who?

They'd be my pick on Okamoto at this point

Are the Pirates considered one of the top two or three favorites to land Okamoto?
Anthony Franco

Yeah feels like the main alternative to SD unless we get a mystery team. Cubs connection doesn't make much sense. Mark Feinsand pushed back against the Angels link. Toronto/Boston doing this while Bichette and Bregman are still on the board, eh

Is Geraldo Perdomo gonna get even better?
Anthony Franco
5:18
Haha well played on the name. Don't think we're getting another 7-WAR season from Perdomo, no, but I buy him as a high-end shortstop. Just not a guy I expect to hit 20 homers year in and year out

Would you have gone 2 years/$22M to hold onto Luke Weaver? NYY's bullpen is a ghost town and it doesn't seem safe to bet on Doval or Cruz for a full season.

I'd have beaten the 2/22 that Philly gave Brad Keller instead

Do you think that the Astros could trade Bryan Abreu to get a decent haul since he has 1 year of control left and probably won't be given a qualifying offer?
Anthony Franco
5:20
He'd get a lot back but I don't really see the point now that they've addressed the rotation. Unless they're getting a proven plug-and-play controllable outfielder (ideally one who hits LHH), trading Abreu probably makes them worse in 2026
He'd still be in high demand at the deadline if he's healthy and they're a few games out of a playoff spot

Good morning and happy new year. Are the Dodgers just waiting to see which teams get the bigger names or if certain players fall within their ranges before they act? seems like the market is in a standstill, possibly holiday bliss? Thank you

Primary focus was adding a closer and they got the top one on the market. Going long term for Bichette or Tucker is a little outside their wheelhouse, feels more reasonable if they take three years with opt-outs
5:24
Trade for a short-term outfielder makes the most sense to me. They have a lot of outfield talent coming through the pipeline so Tucker at seven-plus years doesn't fit all that well without DH as a fallback
Alright I have to wrap up here, sorry. Astros finalized the Imai deal and DFA'd Kaleb Ort, which I need to get on the site

As always, I'm happy to take questions on X @affranco10 if I didn't get to yours here. This was one of the busier chats I've had in a while so I didn't get a chance to read them all, much less come close to responding
Thanks for all the questions and your continued support of the site! Steve will be back on Monday and I'll do this again next Friday. Have a great weekend!
