I liked Pittsburgh's end of the Yorke-Priester swap more from day one, but it's a little early to take victory laps. The Sox would have a second base question even if they had Yorke. He's played 11 MLB games

Do we know what the standing offers the Giants and perhaps Orioles made to Burnes was motivated to drum up a deal with Arizona? With the deferred money, this deal is... much less than I would have expected.
Anthony Franco
3:31
Heyman suggested this week that the Giants' offer was below Arizona's, felt they finished fifth in the bidding
Seems like Baltimore and at least one of Boston or Toronto beat what the D-Backs offered but Burnes had geographical preferences to go to Phoenix
DJ Comeback
3:32
What do you think the chances are the Yankees go with LeMahieu at third on opening day? Cashman mentioned during Fried's signing that he thinks DJ will be healthy going into 2025 and they don't seem to have any obvious acquisition targets for now. Will DJ get his swan song?
Anthony Franco
3:33
I know Boone and Cashman have said they're comfortable with LeMahieu there, but man, I don't see how they can just hand him that job after last year
3:34
Even if they don't want to pay what it takes to get Bregman or Arenado, throw a few million at Yoan Moncada or Jorge Polanco and make LeMahieu beat him out
RAGBRAI
3:34
What kind of moves do you see them Brewers still doing? Anything major or just adding depth?
Anthony Franco
3:35
Mostly depth. They're at last year's payroll already, had internal options to replace Williams and Adames
3:37
I'd like to see them bring in another starter or swing type. Running it back with Junis or taking a shot on Turnbull makes sense with the innings questions they might have for Woodruff or Nestor
Tyler
3:37
What do you realistically think the rest of the Blue Jays offseason looks like?
Anthony Franco
3:38
Signing Santander and a back-end reliever like Estévez
Jesse
3:38
Who is more likely to sign Pete Alonso: Mets, Giants, Angels, the field.
Anthony Franco
3:39
I'll take the Mets on a shorter-term/opt-out laden deal
Dan S.
3:39
The Orioles seem willing to spend in the short term but averse to long deals. Could you see them getting Flaherty for something like 3/72 with an opt-out?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Maybe in February? Don't think Flaherty would have any interest in that right now but there are always a few free agents who struggle to find chairs when the music stops and have to take something below market
If the O's could get Flaherty for basically Severino or Manaea money, that'd be a big win for them
Philly A's
3:41
In the Front Office piece about Nolan Arenado, it said the A's needed to be at $105m by the end of the season, is that 2025?  And there is no way he goes to Sacramento...so how do the A's make up the $15m?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Still feel like the Cards could eventually move Fedde. Not sure how much of their stance that they don't want to move him reverses if they can't find a trade for any of the four guys who have an NTC
3:44
Something like that would get the A's into the 95-100 range. Throw a couple million at a utility infielder and they're not far off 105. Depending on how the team plays in the first half, they can decide whether they want to actually buy at the deadline or try to take on some dead money if they're not competitive but need to buy a prospect or two
El Chupacabra
3:46
Mets send Brett Baty, Starling Marte and $5M to Royals for Hunter Renfroe and catching prospect Carter Jensen.  Who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Guessing the Mets would pass but I don't think it's crazy. Depends on how much they like Jensen basically. Agree that Marte and Baty are each sensible targets for K.C.
Bennie
3:47
Will the Rangers attempt to free up money for relievers by trading Tyler Mahle? If so, which teams would be the most likely trading partners?
Anthony Franco
3:49
I think Gray's more likely than Mahle. Would be an odd sequence to sign Mahle to the backloaded two-year deal while he's rehabbing just to flip him once he gets healthy
Kevin
3:49
Why the slow movement on free agency, Would MLB ever consider a window for signing and a cutoff date.
Anthony Franco
3:49
MLB has floated this but it needs to be collectively bargained and the Players Association has said no
3:50
Union feels (correctly IMO) that players feel more pressured than teams to get a deal done as time goes on and that a deadline would really hurt players who sign late
3:51
Opening Day works as kind of an unofficial deadline so we see this pattern anyways, but there's little incentive for the players to move that up to February 1 or whatever
Fred
3:51
Most likely destination for Randal Grichuk?  Any chance he gets a two-year deal after a strong 2024?
Anthony Franco
3:52
Reds or Guardians make sense. I'd put him at like 1/7 but wouldn't be too surprised if he managed to pull a second year and get to like $10-12MM total
Kevin
3:52
Did the Rangers make themselves stronger by trading Lowe and signing Joc and Jake, why didn’t they bring up someone like Crim or ?
Anthony Franco
3:55
I'd have preferred Lowe over going 2/37 on Joc and adding Robert Garcia. But I've liked everything else they've done this offseason (Eovaldi, Burger trade, low-cost moves for Webb/Milner/Armstrong) so I'm alright with a slight overpay on Joc
Paul
3:55
Will we see James outman or daulton rushing this year for the dodgers
Anthony Franco
3:56
I think Outman's just gonna get squeezed off the roster at some point. Maybe not before Opening Day, but he feels like a guy who gets moved for pitching at the deadline after spending half the season in OKC
Rushing should be up this year. It'd take some kind of injury to clear a spot for him but that happens over the course of the season

3:57
Do you think the expansion of 2 more teams will be in the next labor agreement?
Anthony Franco
3:58
Not by '27, no. Manfred has talked about wanting to get the ball rolling by the end of his tenure in '29. Feels like we're looking at the first half of the 2030s before they're up and running
Bravo
3:58
We need proof of life from AA
Anthony Franco
3:59
Feels like we'll get a rotation trade that drops out of nowhere on February 4
4:00
This is how every Braves offseason goes. They do nothing in free agency and refuse to let any word out about what they're trying to orchestrate on the trade market until the press release
