Hey everyone, looking forward to another chat!
Hope you all had a good week!

With the latest reports, do I really have a legitimate chance to see Correa in the twin cities next summer?  Its just fluff from Boras, no?
Jeremy
3:00
i read the Correa article on the site, but still feel completely lost. Help
Baseball fan

What do you think will happen with Correa. Will he eventually sign with the Mets or someone else
Chris
3:01
Should Correa end up with the Twins, what do you feel is the next step the Mets will take?
Long suffering Mets fan
3:01
2 parter here: 1) Is the "Correa is engaging with other teams" a negotiating ploy leaked by Boras or is there teeth to it? What odds do you give that he ends up a Met?  2) Apart from Correa, who do you see them pursuing, via trade or free agency, for a 4th OF bat and 1-2 more bullpen pieces?
Anthony Franco
3:01
This about sums it up haha
3:03
It's uncharted waters obviously and nothing would surprise me at this point. I still lean towards the Mets being the likeliest outcome, with Minnesota feeling like a team Correa's camp always felt they could circle back to as leverage if talks with New York collapsed. Still think they should be able to get something done with New York while adding some injury protection
3:04
As for the question about the Mets follow-up from here, they'd probably be mostly done if they get Correa finished. Maybe trade one or Guillorme or Escobar for a depth outfielder who can play CF in case Nimmo gets injured
Wade Miley
3:04
Hey Anthony, Milwaukee would not be paying me so much unless they intended me to be one of their five starters when the season starts, right?
Anthony Franco
3:05
$4.5MM isn't so much they have to trade one of the starters, but it does feel like a hint something else is coming there. I thought Houser might get dealt even before they signed Miley, feel pretty confident one of him or Lauer will go for a bat at this point

Do you ever hear about MLB returning to Montreal? The rivalry between Toronto and Montreal, in the same division would be awesome. Bring Back the Expos! Happy New Year.
Anthony Franco
3:07
Not really besides some loose fan pushes for it. Doubt we'd see a team relocate to Montreal, maybe it becomes more a consideration if/when the league feels it's in position to expand again
Andrew
3:07
Any thoughts on final Padres moves? Cueto?
Anthony Franco
3:08
Yeah that's reasonable. I like the fit with SD more than Miami and Cincinnati, who are the other known teams in the bidding
3:09
Maybe another left-handed bat for the bench. Could fit a Ben Gamel or David Peralta type on the roster to shoulder some of the left field workload
Kevin
3:09
Any chance Max Fried is signed to an extension pre arbitration
Anthony Franco
3:10
He's already in arbitration but yeah, I think the next step for Atlanta is trying to keep him out of free agency two years from now
Othani
3:10
I keep hearing that I will be traded.  If Joe Lacob buys the team he could really turn them around. Look at what he did with golden state
Anthony Franco
3:11
Ohtani trade stuff is fan speculation from other teams. Perry Minasian said pretty firmly a couple months ago he wasn't getting traded and they've since added a bunch of veteran role players. Maybe they reevaluate at the deadline but he's not getting traded now
Jay Man
3:11
Hey Anthony, Happy New Year. I insist the Minnesota Twins are not a contender as long as Falvey and Levine are in charge. One really good 2019 at the expense of a really bad division is not a success. Are they toast?
Anthony Franco
3:13
I wouldn't go that far. They do have a lot of pretty interesting young players -- guys who could take a step forward if they stay healthy like Kirilloff, Lewis and some of the pitching prospects. It's still a talented roster, just one that doesn't really fit together as well as you'd like and probably needs more pitching depth
3:14
I still don't think they're done, even if Correa signs with the Mets. They should trade one of their outfielders, probably for pitching help. Could use maybe a lower-cost veteran power bat. I'm willing to give them a couple months still and see how things look in March
A's Fan
3:14
Do the A's trade Tony Kemp to the White Sox before Opening Day?
Anthony Franco
3:15
I think the White Sox could do a little bit better at second base

Would Boston flip Verdugo? He's not the same player there and the last remnant of the Betts trade. What's he worth if they wanted to move him?
Anthony Franco
3:16
They're already kind of light on outfielders. Flipping Verdugo means you're turning to a Duran/Refsnyder platoon in right field if you don't subsequently trade for someone else. He's not going to have a whole lot of trade appeal regardless, and I think they'll ultimately decide they're better off holding him and hoping he performs better
Pierre
3:17
Hey Anthony, what do you think about the Cubs in 2023?
Anthony Franco
3:17
I addressed this in my other chat this week for the main site too. Generally, I think they're fine but not especially exciting. They're clearly behind St. Louis and Milwaukee for me, obviously better than Pittsburgh and Cincinnati
3:18
I like them more than I did four months ago but still don't see them as a playoff team. Bellinger's a question mark, the corner infield could be pretty rough. Gomes/Barnhart at catcher is meh
Dodgers fan
3:19
What would it take to get Willy Adames. I know that they keep saying he’s not going anywhere but we have so many prospects
Anthony Franco
3:20
I don't think they'd move him for prospects unless you're talking multiple players from Cartaya, Vargas, Miller, which I can't see the Dodgers doing
3:21
Putting Lux in there with a good but not top-tier prospect might have some appeal to Milwaukee. Also doesn't feel like something L.A. would want to go with though
3:22
I don't think Adames is categorically "untouchable" so much as they're just demanding well beyond what another team would feel comfortable giving up. It ends being the same result regardless
Hazen
3:23
What bullpen pieces should I be looking at?
Anthony Franco
3:23
(Diamondbacks)
3:24
Castro, McGough and Sulser feel like they're throwing darts at lower-cost upside rather than investing super heavily in the late innings
3:25
Dominic Leone (former not good Diamondback) is my go-to upside reliever play in free agency this year. Guess Aroldis Chapman kind of fits the bill if they're content with him as a clubhouse fit
Rangers13
3:25
Rangers are still in need of LF and a BP person as well as a power bat, so if you are CY do you sign another FA like McCutcheon, Pollock, Peralta or Duvall or pursue a trade for Santander, Andujar, Hays or Meadows? Out of those options who do you like most. From a BP perspective via trade who offers the most for the least prospect capitol: Soto, Barlow, or perhaps Mantiply?
