What are the odds Machado opts out of his deal after this upcoming season?  The position player market is Ohtani (sorta) and him and a big drop off, right?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Whether a player opts out is so dependent on their platform year performance, but it's certainly trending in that direction. Guess I'd say there's like a 65% chance of it right now? Another typical Machado year would make it a pretty easy call
4:10
And yeah, as of right now, I agree he's pretty clearly the second-best player available. There'll be guys who emerge over the next six months though
4:12
If Cody Bellinger figures it out and has a peak season (unlikely but not impossible), he should beat Brandon Nimmo money. Maybe Matt Chapman has an Arenado-level platform year
This stuff is very fluid
Zaidi
4:12
I think the Giants are the favorite in the Ohtani sweepstakes.  Twice the bridesmaid this year so they have the money/motivation and Zaidi needs to do something to keep his job
Anthony Franco
4:13
They'd be right in there with the top group of contenders, I agree. Long-term payroll is open, obvious motivation to land star talent

A big Red Sox fan ,   I’m so glad about Devers staying, but many of us still aching over Boggarts handling and feel Bloom only did this deal as John Henry forced him to.   Any thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:13
I think there was an immense amount of pressure on both Henry and Bloom to get this done
4:15
Obviously ownership is going to be involved when you're talking about a move of this magnitude, but I'd also guess the front office learned from the Bogaerts situation that they needed to be a little more flexible

Which franchise is like a one-legged duck, paddling like the devil but just going around in circles? Rockies? Reds? Rays? or ??
Anthony Franco
4:15
Has to be the Rockies
4:16
They're well intentioned but just so overly optimistic on this group of players
4:17
I do like a lot of their position player prospects a year or two away though. Don't think it's totally hopeless but they've put themselves in a tough spot with all the needless contract extensions

Would Adrian Houser and Keston Hiura be enough to pull Christian Walker out of Arizona and into a Brewers uniform? Would be a great platoon partner for Rowdy at 1B, can DH, when Winker plays in the OF, and he's always hit very well at Miller/AmFam, and has been an excellent glove at 1B too. If not, what else needs to be added?
Anthony Franco
4:19
I don't think Arizona's doing that, no. Tough for me to find a fit there. The D-Backs aren't moving Walker for prospects but I'm not sure the big league rosters match up especially well. They're strong in similar areas
4:20
Luis Urías fits Arizona's needs but I can't see Milwaukee doing that
Tony
4:20
My question is do you see a potential for the Cards to pick up a #1 or #2 starter? Thank you
Anthony Franco
4:21
Not at this point in the offseason, unless you consider Pablo López a #2 starter. Top-of-the-rotation arms aren't really available in trade right now
If the Guardians are out of it at the deadline or something, maybe Shane Bieber becomes available. That's not happening this winter though

Why are we not signing another pitcher.  Also does Moustakis make sense for us
Anthony Franco
4:22
They could still sign another depth starter. I wouldn't bother with Moustkas. Drury, Rengifo, Rendon, Urshela is enough to cover second and third base
Thor Thumb
4:22
If Twins offered Cabrera a one-year contract for $40 million, would he take it?
Anthony Franco
4:23
Correa? No, he opted out of a better deal than that

Dodgers stick under the luxury tax this year?
Joe
4:23
Does Bauer’s salary bumping them into near tax territory mean that the dodgers are more likely to say, “forget it, we’re gonna go over anyway,” or does it totally handcuff them?
Anthony Franco
4:24
Yeah at this point, I think they're going to wind up going over. Would be tough to sit out the deadline if they're in a tight division race because they can't take on any salary

I’m going to be in Phoenix during Spring Training. Looking to go to a game- any stadiums better to visit?
Anthony Franco
4:24
Never been unfortunately

Does Brandon Belt make any sense for the Brewers on a 1 yr  prove it deal?
Anthony Franco
4:25
Don't see it unless they trade one of Winker or Tellez, don't really need another lefty first baseman/DH right now

I have read multiple times writers expecting the Twins to make a/some trades before the offseason is done.  what do you see as possible moves?
Anthony Franco
4:26
Obviously Correa's the big question but trading an outfielder for pitching feels like something that has to happen either way
DimSum

Which team’s rebuild will look better in 3 years- Nats or Pirates?
Anthony Franco
4:26
I'd take Pittsburgh

Hey Anthony, Happy New Year.  In a AL-only rotisserie league, when one is able to use Ohtani ONLY as a pitcher OR a hitter, which would be the better choice, in your opinion?
Anthony Franco
4:27
Standard caveat that I don't really know the particulars of the different fantasy formats, but I'd have more faith in Ohtani as a hitter
More consistent track record, less chance of an injury absence

Dipoto has hinted that the Mariners are still looking for added pieces. What type of trade do you see as feasible? Thanks for all you guys do. My favorite source for info.
Anthony Franco
4:29
Adding another bat to the left field/DH mix feels like the final piece. Reynolds is the big swing but it's another team that could get in on Kepler/Santander/Seth Brown, etc.
