Nice offseason so far for my Orioles, but please tell me we're not done.  We're landing Framber or Ranger....right?
Anthony Franco
5:36
I think there's a strong chance they get one of them, yeah

How about a contest where we write out how we would go about rebuilding the Rockies?  The one judged the best get published on MLBTR!
Anthony Franco
5:37
Bypass the middleman and email your thesis directly to Dick Monfort!
Sean M.
5:37
Do you think there's any chance the Marlins could double dip back into RP market? Feel like a veteran lefty like Andrew Chafin could make a big difference. Or perhaps it's a veteran starter now with Cabrera gone, to buy time for their rookies to grow/secure service time. Who is this year's Cal Quantrill?
Anthony Franco
5:39
They're only a couple million dollars above where they opened last season and theoretically trying to compete now. I don't think sixth starter and a cheap middle reliever (ideally a better lefty than Gibson, I agree) is an either/or
Marte
5:39
With Marte now off the trading block, where do the Dbacks go from here?  There current 4-9 hitters will strike no fear in the opposing team. There starting staff is mediocre at best without Burnes.  And, they have no bullpen.  As it stands now, Dbacks look like a 4th place team in the NL West.
Anthony Franco
5:41
There's been so much smoke about the Goldy tie that I'd be surprised if he's not back there at that some point. Makes a ton of sense to platoon him with Smith and Del Castillo
5:42
Need at least a stopgap left fielder until Waldschmidt arrives, hopefully by the All-Star Break. Obviously the lineup looks a hell of a lot better if Ken Kendrick blows through what he expected to be his payroll cutoff for Bregman. Otherwise they're probably looking at Ramón Urías or Luis Rengifo as the veteran insurance for Lawlar, which is very meh
5:43
Enough high-end talent here that I could go either way on them vs. San Francisco but they remain 3 and 4 in some order
Rangers13
5:43
Assuming Rangers have 12-18 million left and thats a huge guess to use what player or combination of players would help them the most?
Anthony Franco
5:45
Rhys Hoskins, Pierce Johnson and Jose Urquidy? It's not going to be great haha
5:47
Maybe Germán Márquez over Urquidy, some version of the $3-4M starter. First base is the biggest hangup for me. Relying entirely on Jake Burger is rough. Arraez would be ideal and maybe they wait long enough that he drops into the $8-10M range for one year and they jump
Frustrated RedsFan
5:47
Why do I keep buying season tickets for this Reds poverty franchise?  Here I am signed up again for more pain in 2026... Ok, not my question.  My question is:  Who's the better long term pick up, Chase Burns, Nolan McLean, Cade Horton, or Noah Cameron? Can you rank them?  Thanks.
Anthony Franco
5:48
McLean, Horton, Burns then a pretty big gap to Cameron

Expectations for Roman Anthony upcoming season. Maybe sophomore slump?
Anthony Franco
5:50
Aside from maybe Nick Kurtz, probably no second-year I'm more confident in avoiding a sophomore slump than Roman Anthony. Guess you could quibble with the strikeouts a little bit, but it's an extremely disciplined approach with monster power and production at every stop. He's great
Guarded Indian
5:50
Are my Guardians done with adding players of any significance?  Feels like they are going to run the OF out there with Kwan, Delauter, Valera and hope for the best.  Was really hoping for Bader because Jonathan Rodriguez is clearly a AAAA player and can't be our RH OF option.  Fairchild either.
Anthony Franco
5:51
I imagine there's a complementary outfield addition coming, another team that makes sense for Andujar or Austin Hays
Nico
5:51
Do you see the A's settling on Jack Perkins in the rotation (where they a SP with #2 upside) or in the bullpen (where they need a closer and Perkins has had trouble staying healthy as a SP)? And where do you think they see Leo De Vries and Jacob Wilson settling defensively?
Anthony Franco
5:53
Perkins feels like a long-term reliever to me, but the rotation's wide open for now so they can keep him in a swing/multi-inning role if they're worried about the durability without slamming the door shut on him as a starter
De Vries at shortstop and Wilson at second feels like the ideal future infield arrangement
Jason Isbell > Kyle Isbel
5:54
Why have the Royals been so thoroughly terrible at finding even minimum-level capability in the outfield? What kind of organizational thinking leads to that?
Anthony Franco
5:56
Some of it is clinging too hard to their prospect evaluations despite multiple years of poor MLB results (Isbel to an extent, but no more egregious example than Melendez). Then obviously they're at a disadvantage in addressing it via free agency, where they're limited to the kind of mid-level pickups (e.g. Renfroe) that don't often hit
5:57
The center field markets (both in free agency and trade) have been terrible for years too. Still a bottom 5-10 outfield for me but Collins raises the floor over what they've had in left for the past couple seasons, at least
TGwynn
5:57
What do you make of the fact that AJ Preller hasn't signed a new deal in San Diego?
Anthony Franco
5:58
Would've made more of it if the owner weren't on record about wanting to get an extension done. I assume it'll happen before the start of Spring Training
Kyle and Bo know Okamoto
5:58
Is there still room on the Blue Jays roster and payroll for both of us now that Okamoto is on board?
Anthony Franco
5:59
Not both, but one of them
Mike Elias
5:59
Are we close to seeing a "Mike Elias Rule" get created that limits the # of DFA/waivers claims that someone like me is allowed to do as a GM? Feels like it's really bad for the players and guys like Marco Luciano are just in limbo the entire winter. What if there were a limited number - like 5 waiver claim to DFAs in total in an offseason?
Anthony Franco
6:02
I don't think the league would go for something this rigid but could see them implementing a rule where you need to keep a player on the 40-man for a certain period of time (two weeks maybe) before you can DFA them after a waiver claim
6:04
Prevents the Noel situation where a guy gets DFA within one day, and if you were locked into some kind of roster commitment, you'd need to be more discerning about who you claim
Natitude Dude

What do you think of the idea being kicked around about an in-season tournament.  I don't particularly care for it because it may mess with single season record chases.
Anthony Franco
6:05
It'd be silly. Don't have any issues with Manfred's comments though. He only even brought it up in direct response to a question about emulating the NBA Cup, and his answer was essentially "yeah we've discussed it but it's more challenging for us than it is in basketball"
6:06
I don't follow the NBA so I have no idea how people feel about it. I assume the players like it because they make more money. Do fans care about winning it?
The Willies of SF
6:07
I understand why the Cubs want to hold on to Nico Hoerner (a 1-year rental), but what (in your estimation) would it take for the Giants to land him while NOT including Bryce Eldridge?
Anthony Franco
6:09
I wouldn't put much weight in the Hoerner speculation. Not seeing any reason for the Cubs to want to do that
6:11
Obviously there's a package the Giants could put together at which the value becomes too good for the Cubs to pass up (Roupp + Josuar Gonzalez or something), but it should be at a level where it wouldn't make sense on SF's end
Tony
6:12
Thanks for the chats.  With spring training ~a month away, when do most teams quit the trade market?
Anthony Franco
6:13
Most teams don't think in absolutes like this. Major trades in Spring Training or April are rare but we got the Dylan Cease trade in mid-March a couple years ago
