But you sure as hell don't want to lose Jarlin Susana or Jefferson Rojas like this
Dave

Yankees clearly have a need at 3B and have some bad contracts like McMahon and Stanton to unload. Could the Giants and Chapman be a solution?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Chapman's an even rougher one. He's obviously better than McMahon but they've got one year left on RyMac at 16 compared to 4/100 on Chapman. Giants would need to eat a lot of the 2028-30 salaries to make this work
4:00
Assuming Chapman's even willing to go

Over under 20 starts for Ohtani in 27? Thanks
Anthony Franco

Would love to be proven wrong but have to assume under

Are the Rangers hunting a bat or switching gears because of Walcott and Dreiling and going in on pitching
Anthony Franco
4:02
Still need to be in for multiple bats in my view. Losing Joc, didn't get enough out of 1B and virtually nothing again from Carter. Even if you plug Walcott in at second, could use another corner OF to give Nimmo some more DH work and at least need a RHH to pair with Carter

You’d think the Royals would still love to have Duran. They’ve seemingly wanted him for two years and if they don’t get him now after the price drop, what would be the point? At a minimum, they need 2OFs. What would it take? Blake Mitchell?
Anthony Franco
4:04
Mitchell's such a weird player. It's not my cup of tea but he's made it work in the low minors, clearly has massive power. Wouldn't give him up for Duran
Though as with STL, I agree that KC fits there for a couple middle of the system types

Brewers and Rays fans are apparently too busy to ask questions! Do you see either of these teams sustaining a long run of success (5-7 years)?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Brewers already have done this basically but yeah, I expect them to remain at the top of the league for a while
4:07
Just think the division is going to have the Rays naturally being more up and down but they're well positioned as long as they have Caminero and Aranda as anchors and consistently excellent at building the farm depth to make sure they're finding guys who can contribute as role players at the very least
Can't a pitcher get a win?!
4:07
What do you think about revisiting guideline that says a SP that doesn't go 5 can't get a win?  So many times, I see a guy go 4 2/3 and get lifted with a lead.  They have pitched the longest and sometimes the best of all pitchers in a game.  We may never see this generation get to 200 wins. let alone 300!  Let's adapt to today's game and lift that rule.  Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Yeah I'd be on board with dropping this to four or something. Still don't know what to do about the opener. I don't care about the win either way but you're right that it's basically lost any semblance of significance (even just for players' legacies) if you don't adjust it to the way pitching usage has changed
Moose Skowron
4:09
Do you agree with Hal that the offense is to blame for this season's Yankee woes?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Position player group in general but yeah. The offense without Judge was a travesty
If Rice wasn't single handedly carrying them, they didn't score
Just a baseball guy

Hi Anthony. Cardinals just fired their hitting coach. A lot of teams do after two or three years . Tampa has the same hitting coach since 2016. What’s up with that ? Hitting coach has to be the most thankless job in mlb….
Tony
4:10
The cardinals have had a ton of problems with their hitting coaches.  Why don't they contract with the driveline guys ? That is where the guys go to get fixed anyway. Their hitting coaches screwed up both Walker and gorman
Anthony Franco
4:11
Yeah most of today's hitting coaches have ties to Driveline or some other independent facility. They tend to use similar data
4:12
The turnover rate is crazy. Tampa Bay's definitely the exception in keeping the Cash, Mottola, Snyder coaching core as long as they have

Otto Lopez would seem to be an ideal trade candidate for the Mariners. What do you think a possible return would be for Miami?
Anthony Franco
4:13
Don't think they're trading him. Would have a hard time moving him for anything less than Ryan Sloan in talks with Seattle, which I assume the M's would balk at
4:14
At some point the Marlins have to try to win major league games. They're not that far off. Even if this was a career season for Otto (and it probably was), what are the chances that even a very good prospect like Felnin Celesten becomes this level of player?

What are the odds Pirates go 3/60 For Brandon Lowe? Even this ownership has to realize their window is the next two years.
Anthony Franco
4:16
Yeah I find it plausible. They've opened up a little for ROH, Keller, Reynolds and obviously did the Griffin extension. Even if you double Lowe's salary, it's just equal to what they paid him and Ozuna combined in 2026
Fastball Freddie

So Perolta’s a bust with the Mets and an LCS MVP with the Rays. What did the Rays do the Mets didn’t?
Anthony Franco
4:18
Pitching in front of a much better defensive team helps. Most of the turnaround was driven by a huge drop on the average on balls in play, it's not like he's back to striking guys out the way he did in MIlwaukee
4:19
They've got him throwing more changeups, which they do with every pitcher (mostly successfully). He's throwing harder in the postseason, as you'd expect with the adrenaline boost and the shorter stints meaning he can just let it eat
4:20
He's better than he was early in the season certainly but I think the 'return to ace level' narrative is a little overstated
But will have enough juice for a front office to give him $125M again

The Astros need to hire a GM before free agency begins, right?
Anthony Franco
4:20
Need to? No. Should? Definitely
4:21
Not like it went super well when Crane tried running things himself last time

Cubs need to bring in at least 3 SP types this winter, correct? Horton will (hopefully) be back sometime next season, although I think he should be built up in the bullpen until he can be a swingman for them. But regardless, that rotation needs a ton of depth, especially with the Steele wild card too.
Anthony Franco
4:23
Yep, minimum of three, probably four (including retaining some of their own guys). Share your concerns about counting on any of Steele, Horton or Ben Brown to stay healthy. Think it'd be best for everyone if they traded Edward Cabrera. They're just not bringing back anyone who gave them innings this year
4:24
But it's also a wide open opportunity for the front office. The pitching staff this year was a bottom 10 group -- mostly due to injury -- that was propped up to a serviceable level by the defense
Having all these guys coming off the books gives them the freedom to overhaul it
