Should the Braves move on from Rosario,he pretty much meets reasonable expectations, which isn’t a lot.Why not Grissom in LF?
Anthony Franco
4:37
Yeah $9MM is borderline but I'd probably move on. Agree that Grissom warrants a look in left field if they don't trade him in a deal for a controllable starting pitcher
4:38
Even if they moved Grissom, declining the option on Rosario and signing Lourdes Gurriel or trading for Alex Verdugo makes some sense. I'd consider either of those players a decent upgrade

Where do you see Craig Counsel managing next year?
Anthony Franco
4:40
The Mets are the cliche pick but there's enough smoke that I think it'll happen. Even if Milwaukee's willing to offer Counsell a decent raise, it's probably not going to compete with a blank check from Steve Cohen
4:41
Maybe Counsell loves Wisconsin and just wants to leverage the Mets' interest into a couple million more from Mark Attanasio, but  I think the Mets are the more likely landing spot

It's obvious the Dodgers will have to do more to improve their team and will have to spend. Assuming they get Otani what else do you see them doing? Your best guess as to what pitcher they will get. Thanks.
Anthony Franco
4:43
Sonny Gray feels like their wheelhouse. The age means it'll be a shorter commitment than what it'd take for a comparatively valuable pitcher. For all their spending, they like to keep to shorter-term deals -- particularly on the pitching side. They're willing to get players who have declined the qualifying offer
4:44
Also imagine they'll bring Kershaw back if he wants to keep going. Could add a left fielder whether they land Ohtani or not

After reading through the off-season chats for both teams earlier this year how about this proposal: Alex Verdugo for Gleyber Torres. I know trades within a division are viewed as dangerous and between rivals even more so, but it makes a lot of sense for each team given their needs and perceived surpluses at the moment, no?
Anthony Franco
4:45
While I think this trade makes some sense in a vacuum, the chance of the Yankees and Red Sox actually swapping notable veterans is near zero
4:47
They would each fit the other roster better. Torres is the better player but he's projected $6MM higher in arbitration, so there's not a ton of trade value with either player. If they were two other teams, I'd like this as a proposal

Who will be our Opening Day shortstop? What about as of 9/1?
Anthony Franco
4:49
I'll go Gabriel Arias on Opening Day and Andrés Giménez on 9/1 because I think we'll get to a point where Juan Brito hits his way into the mix at second base by the middle of the season

is their a free agent or possible trade target (outfielder or pitcher)the reds could target that would be affordable (20-25 mil) and bring attitude or a little swagger to this young team?
Anthony Franco
4:50
Not sure about swagger specifically. Verdugo's a viable trade candidate who has never been shy on confidence. I think a right-handed bat would fit better for Cincinnati, though. The outfield skews pretty left-handed already
4:51
They'll add at least one free agent starter and should be able to play in the middle tier of free agency. A Gray reunion would fit, Eduardo Rodriguez makes sense there. I'm not as big on Michael Wacha as I'd be on the other two guys, but he's a viable target

Is SF a contender if? Sign Jung Hoo Lee for CF, Candelario for 3B, and ace Yamamoto.  Trade JD Davis, Bart and Whisenhunt to NYY for Torres.
Anthony Franco
4:53
Yeah I think that's a clear playoff team, but I've also picked the Giants to make the postseason two years in a row and been wrong haha
Christian Yelich
4:54
I’m not worth my contract, but I still have some value. What do you think the chances are that Milwaukee trades me this winter to upgrade elsewhere and then just let the young guys take over the outfield? Mitchell, Frelick, Weimer, Taylor, Chourio, etc.
Anthony Franco
4:57
It's not completely crazy. Agree that Yelich wouldn't quite get 5/137 if he were a free agent this offseason but I don't think it's that far off. He's way better than Benintendi, who got 5/75. I'd take him over Teoscar Hernández, who we still think is getting four years. Probably wouldn't to pay that much down to offload the deal
5:00
He has full no-trade rights and it'd be putting a ton of faith in the younger guys you mentioned. I don't think it's going to happen or anything, but if they exercised the option on Canha to buy some time and ran with an outfield of Canha, Mitchell, Frelick and Taylor with Chourio on the horizon, there's an argument for considering it

What (1) impact bat would solidify Twins lineup.? Thanks
Anthony Franco
5:01
Assuming the Mets are holding Alonso, I'd try to get Lane Thomas if I were Minnesota. A righty-hitting outfielder who mashes LHP feels like the finishing touch on a position player that I like a lot
5:02
Jorge Soler would be a nice boost offensively if they went the free agent route. That'd require a lot of faith in Buxton's knee, though, since they don't want to end up in a position where they need Soler playing the corner outfield every day

If the Orioles decide Mayo is ready what would it take to get Santander
Anthony Franco
5:04
Good player but there's not going to be immense trade value for a corner outfielder who projects as a 120 wRC+ bat and is going to make around $13MM
5:05
A controllable middle reliever and mid-level prospect feels about right. Less than the Jays got for Teoscar, more than Milwaukee got for Hunter Renfroe
Alright that's everything in the queue for today, which worked out nicely

Thanks for all the questions and for supporting the site! These are always a blast.

Obviously feel free to throw stuff at me on Twitter throughout the week. We'll do this again soon. Have a good weekend!
