Is Spencer Steer a 1B option for the Mets? What would he cost?
Anthony Franco
3:32
I'd rather aim for a little more certainty than Steer coming off wrist surgery personally, think he's more of a corner utility type than an everyday first baseman even at full strength
3:34
Reds will probably want to price in the demand for RH bats at the deadline, certainly could still use Steer themselves in the corner OF. I don't think they'd just give him away but maybe they could work something around Jack Wenninger off a down year?

The Pirates need to resign Lowe badly. Maybe as bad as any team and their free agents. Seems like contract predictions run anywhere from 3/$45 to 3/$65m. Is the true value somewhere in between, like 3/$54?
Anthony Franco
3:35
We're at the high end of the range you mentioned. The defensive metrics this year feel like a mirage but there aren't many middle infielders you can reliably expect to hit 30 homers if they stay healthy
Josh
3:36
Does E. Suarez get more than a one year deal this offseason? I think he recovered nicely from his early injury and still has a few 35+ homer seasons in the tank.
Anthony Franco
3:36
I think it's one year deals the rest of the way for him. I'm a little higher than the rest of the MLBTR staff on what he could make though, wouldn't surprise me if he lands close to the $12M that Ozuna got last year
Antony Springer or George Sandanter
3:37
Assuming Springer doesn't just retire, there is no way the Blue Jays can keep both of them on the roster given that they probably won't play 200 defensive OF innings between them next year?
Anthony Franco
3:37
I doubt Springer's back. Atkins already talked about being pretty excited about the increased roster flexibility they'd get out of not having anyone locked into DH
3:38
Anything you get from Santander at this point is found money. Tough to count on him for anything off two lost seasons

While Tom Pohlad has talked about a contending team in 2027, with 2 of their best hitters(Jeffers and Bell) almost certainly gone, where is the offense going to come from?  Twins have rarely gone in for top FAs and while trades are possible, who would be available if Ryan  was made available?
Bradke Hrbek
3:38
Noting the worries about how Royce Lewis' bat has been trending not being a good fit for 1B, would it be more optimal for the Twins offensively and defensively to play Lewis and 2B and have 1B be a platoon of Clemens and a RHH like Andrew Vaughn?
Anthony Franco
3:41
Yeah I'd just like to see them trade Royce to a team that'll play him at third and take a bigger swing at 1B -- Bauers, France, Vaughn, etc. This lineup could be reasonably deep if Jenkins takes a step forward. Have to feel pretty good about what you'll get from Keaschall, pretty solid left side infield
3:42
Agree they're short a true impact bat though. Obviously Buxton has that ability but the injury history is what it is. Could bring Jeffers back or be a potential soft landing for Jazz if he takes two or three years with an opt-out
De Ja Flaherty all over again
3:43
Do you think the Tigers will baffle us again with a qualifying offer on a marginal at best player?  Flaherty short circuited that thinking by picking up his option last year but maybe The Tigers think he’s worth yet another one year flyer?
Anthony Franco
3:43
That would indeed be baffling. I really can't see it, he'll probably be available for $10-12M on a one-year deal later in the offseason if they really want him back
Baked McBride
3:43
With all the noise around the Phillies needing anything even vaguely resembling outfielders, do you think there's a trade match with Colorado for McCarthy or Moniak? Neither is exactly a world beater, but they've got to be better than the zombie conga line of Garcia/Castellanos/Kepler/Second half Marsh they keep running out there....
Anthony Franco
3:45
Rockies just extended Mickey Mo in August.

McCarthy, I guess, but he's another left-handed hitting contact guy who's better suited in LF than CF. He's a pretty good version of that tweener profile but not too dissimilar to what they've already got in Marsh and Crawford that just hasn't been good enough. Pretty underwhelming if that's all they come away with out there

3:46
Who do you think plays CF for the Rays next year?  Chandler Simpson, Jonny DeLuca, Theo Gillen, or another Cedric Mullins-type of low-ceiling veteran?
Anthony Franco
3:47
I'd just move Simpson back there. I know it was rough as a rookie but he looked a lot more comfortable in year two and obviously has the range to play up the middle, the lack of arm strength doesn't really bother me
Arthur Dent
3:47
Let’s say you need a right handed impact bat and have room in your outfield and just enough spending flexibility to land one top tier free agent.  Are you targeting Suzuki or Arozarena. OR, is there a darkhorse out there available via free agency or trade thatnobody’s eally talking about?
Anthony Franco
3:49
I like Randy a little more than Seiya but it's close. I know Steve disagrees and would rather bet on Suzuki's bigger physical tools, Arozarena's reliability is the tipper for me
3:50
Not really on the trade front barring the 2% chance the Rangers nuke everything and put Langford out there

Hi Anthony. I make a Mariner offseason plan every year. Do these moves make sense? A trade framework of Emerson Handcock for Zack Gelof.  Need to upgrade the defense: Sign Ian Happ for 3/55, Isaiah Kiner-Falefa 1/6. Upgrade bullpen: Sign Gregory Soto for 2/18 and Paul Blackburn for 1/5. And a starter, sign Matthew Boyd for 1/14. Thanks again for doing these chats.
Anthony Franco
3:51
I'll take the over on 1/5 for Blackburn but otherwise, this all seems reasonable enough. Still pretty light offensively but agree the defense and bullpen are much improved

When will the MLB Trade Rumors annual free agent projection come out. We are in prime FA season, especially since expected activity increase before 12/1. Also your thoughts on Mets Skubal or King&Holmes type signings. Probably similar $'s short term but less years with a risky Skubal elbow. Your thoughts. Thanks
Anthony Franco
3:52
Monday evening. We wait until the qualifying offer decisions come in because that can dramatically change the contract prediction for borderline guys
3:53
I don't think Skubal's going to need to settle for short term. He should just get the best of both worlds (length and a record AAV). King > Holmes in terms of both quality of pitcher and price, though neither of them is going beyond four years -- Holmes probably at three

Steven Kwan to the Orioles make some sense? What kind of package could work?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Yeah I like this. Honestly wonder if the O's have soured enough on either Beavers or Cowser that they could just flip one of them back to Cleveland for the stability that Kwan provides

Everyone talks about Contreras, but I think a Megill trade is far more likely, what kind of return could he get?
Anthony Franco
3:57
Agreed, I think Megill goes and they hold Contreras. Probably fetches a couple mid-level starting pitching prospects, something similar to what Estévez did from Philly at the '24 deadline
Dennis
3:57
What kind of contract do you think Jazz Chisholm will get? Do you think he will get significant interest next month?
Anthony Franco
3:58
I'm at two years in the mid-30s with an opt out  for him but he was one of our most divisive players on the Top 50 and I was the lowest

3:58
If the Pirates run it back and re-sign their free agents, and the pitching staff meets expectations (specifically Skenes and Keller), is it reasonable to expect that they contend for a playoff spot next year?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Yeah if they run it back with better health and get a typical year from Skenes, they're making the playoffs

Rank these guys on who gets the most guaranteed money: Trevor Rogers, Casey Mize, Michael King.

Who gets the bigger contract, Peralta, Rogers or King?

Freddy, Rogers, King, (gap), Mize

What can the Brewers do to possibly improve their roster for next year?
