What are chances the Tigers sign Bregman this off-season?
Anthony Franco
3:31
They're pretty clearly in the top tier of likely suitors, probably the plurality favorite. 25%?
Tough to put any one team above the field, especially if it's not a re-signing
Halos
3:32
With Mike Maddux as new their pitching coach, who are pitchers should trade for or add thru FA, since it looks like they're kinda stepping away from the kiddie table.
Anthony Franco
3:33
Doubt Maddux has any impact on player acquisition (though I like the hire). I assume they're in the middle tiers of free agency, maybe an outside chance that they finally go beyond three years for Bieber or Gallen

The Brady Singer for Taylor Ward trade appears a win win for both teams. When it's an obvious good deal for both teams do you see these scenarios often play out?
Anthony Franco
3:35
Not really. It's pretty rare to predict an exact trade. I'd like the Angels end of this particular one a little more but would get the argument for both teams
JD
3:35
What do you think I could get if I offer up Luke Raley in trade talks? He is coming off an injury riddled year, but was a strong platoon bat in 2023 and 2024 with 3 years of control still.
Anthony Franco
3:35
Very little
3:36
A year removed from being a good corner platoon bat isn't a profile that teams care about
The A's kept trying this with Seth Brown, no one bit, and they ended up releasing him

Tim's mailbag post this week mentioned that the Mets could have a lot of interest in Yandy Diaz.  Would the Mets be willing to give up Baby or Vientos in exchange for Diaz, or would the Mets also require another player like Chandler Simpson?
Anthony Franco
3:39
I wouldn't give up Yandy for Vientos. Baty's a more interesting framework. I don't think the Mets would do it now that he's carved out a defensive home but the bat is still inconsistent enough that it's not a crazy ask from Tampa Bay's perspective

If Bregman doesn't come back to Boston. Who would be the likely replacement (free agent or from within) to play third.
Anthony Franco
3:41
I still expect Story to opt in, which probably leaves Mayer at third. Could also give Mayer SS, kick Story to second, and make a run at Murakami or Okamoto if they think either of those guys can play third for a little bit
3:42
Not sure where Kristian Campbell fits anymore. They're obviously not done with him after one year but it's tough if they don't think he's viable at second or third base
Dom
3:42
What do you think is the % chance (if any) that Tatsuya Imai is the highest paid pitcher this FA? Also, how many years do you think he will get? Thanks alot
Anthony Franco
3:42
35%. Seven

Pivetta and Estrada to the cubs for Wiggins and alcantara   Who says no.
Anthony Franco
3:44
I think all of us at MLBTR are pretty down on Kevin Alcantara, at least relative to where he currently fits on most prospect lists. With Wiggins' relief risk and the Padres already short on starting pitching, I don't think they'd do this
3:46
Doubt the Cubs would either. Would be an odd look to give up two of their more notable prospects for a reliever they cast off not too long enough and a starter who's likely to opt out after one season
Dave
3:46
When do you think Paul Skenes will be traded?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Not for at least 18 months, and only if Pittsburgh really can't find a way out of the rebuild
I'd be shocked if Ben Cherington's still the GM when Skenes gets traded unless it's going into his final arb year
Corbin Burnes
3:47
Should I opt out at the end of next year? I'd probably be leaving money on the table given how much Arizona offered and the injury, but Arizona's window has slammed shut and ownership wants nothing to do with spending more money to give me a better team at this point.
Anthony Franco
3:49
Can't see him passing on 4/140 when he'll have pitched like six weeks at most before the end of the season
3:50
He also signed there in large part because he lives there, and I disagree with the notion that a team with Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo and Gabriel Moreno can't compete

What alternatives do the Mets have to amend the loss of Edwin Díaz and/or Pete Alonso? Which those losses would be more devastating for the team right now?
Anthony Franco
3:52
Robert Suarez, Raisel Iglesias, Pete Fairbanks (trade) are among the options at the back of the bullpen. Murakami/Naylor viable alternatives at first base. You could argue for a team to sign Schwarber to play first as well, but I have a hard time seeing him on the Mets
3:53
I expect them to replace both guys if they're not back, so I wouldn't call either devastating. If you're just looking internally, Vientos is an option at first while they'll need to replace the entire bullpen, so I guess Díaz in that sense
Brewers Fan
3:53
Brewers clearly need an upgrade in the lineup, but with the team setup most pieces make sense. An upgrade on Oritz would probably be the obvious one but who else you you replace in that lineup, if anyone?
3:54
Any shortstops we think would be available to upgrade on Ortiz? Or is it just wait out another year with him ans hope Pratt or Made are ready for 27?
Wandering Chief
3:54
If the Braves can't find a way to keep Kim, would Lawler be a trade option?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Putting these together since they're both broadly about shortstop. Lawlar's such a weird one because the main reason he's not locked in as Arizona's third baseman is that his throwing accuracy was all over the place. Trading for him to play shortstop seems awfully risky
3:56
I also think there's real signal to the D-Backs getting him CF reps. Alek Thomas can't hit and they don't have a left fielder, so if Lawlar takes to the outfield at all, they'll find ways to get him in the lineup
3:57
I've got a tough time finding shortstop trade candidates beyond CJ Abrams, who probably should be a second baseman. Taylor Walls, sure, but he's not much or any better than Joey Ortiz or Nick Allen
3:58
Similar idea with Brayan Rocchio. I'd take him over Allen but he'd still be one of the five worst starting shortstops in MLB
3:59
It's a little easier for Milwaukee to upgrade there because Turang could play shortstop. So they could trade for Lowe or provide a soft landing for Gleyber if he settles for one year again and move Turang up the defensive spectrum

Suppose Jack Flaherty calls you up and asks your opinion.  Should he opt in, or out? And if out, sign the QO?  2025 was a rough season at times.
