Here's the actual question
Lefty
3:28
Giants add Nimmo and Bogaerts , call it a day. Wait on Matos, Luciano, Harrison etc
Anthony Franco
3:29
Would obviously be a very strong boost to the lineup, the kind of offensive additions they need. I do think both players are viable fits. Still need to do something about the bullpen in this situation though, and could at least use a back-end starter with Rodón departing

Do the Braves try and move Ozuna this off-season by possibly packing him with a prospect? Also does Dansby get a contact in the range of 20 million?
Anthony Franco
3:31
Doubt anyone's taking the Ozuna money even with a prospect attached. There's so much off-field baggage it wouldn't be a great look. I guess the Padres did this with Hector Olivera and immediately released him, but I don't consider it likely
3:32
As for Dansby, I think he'll pretty easily beat $20MM per. For me, he's right in the Story/Baez 6/140 bucket ($23.33MM AAV)

Xander to the O’s? Look up the Aruba Mafia in the late 90s/early 00s with the O’s. I don’t think that history is relevant here..but it’s interesting. And regardless, I think he would be what that team needs to take the next step.
Anthony Franco
3:34
Skeptical they'll add a salary his big. I know Steve has mentioned this a couple times, but Elias has hedged the payroll increase stuff by pointing to the rising arbitration costs. They'll be more active than just Jordan Lyles in free agency, but I'm not ready to put them on a $200MM player
3:35
It does make a ton of sense from a roster perspective though, I agree
DBacks Shortstop
3:35
Thanks for offseason outlook piece on the Dbacks.  Any thoughts on what the DBacks SHOULD do about shortstop?  Ahmed's trade value is quite low for multiple reasons (surgery, salary, poor offensive output).  I agree Perdomo looked overmatched most of the time, though there are those in the organization who still believe in him.  Your thoughts?
Nomahhhh
3:35
Could the Diamondbacks DFA Ahmed? Where could he go?
Anthony Franco
3:35
I don't think they'll DFA Ahmed. Worst case scenario he just comes back as an overpriced defensive specialist off the bench, not like anyone's taking on the money if they waive him
3:37
As for what I would do, I alluded to it in a bit in the outlook but I'd see what the offers are on some of the arb-eligible shortstops. Rosario is an example. I actually had Willy Adames in the original draft as a speculative possibility, but Steve ultimately talked me out of the Brewers being likely to trade him
3:38
Still can't hurt to ask though. I also think they'd be an interesting fit if the Royals non-tender Adalberto Mondesi given the uncertainty on the left side of the infield as a whole

Hey, Anthony, thanks again...as always for the chat.  First, what do you think of the impending rule changes and do you think that the pick off limit and bigger bases are going to significantly change the analytical value of the stolen base?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Could see it tipping the scales in the baserunners' favor a few percentage points, yeah. That's particularly true after a pitcher has exhausted his first free pickoff. By the time the second one (and especially the third one) rolls around, the runner should be able to get pretty aggressive with his lead
3:41
It's not going to turn Cal Raleigh into a basestealer but for the guys with average to above-average speed, it should be a slight help. I like those rules changes well enough for that reason
Rangers13
3:41
Do you see a trade for Merrill Kelly with some of the RAngers MIF depth and a pitching prospect like Bradford or Englehert as a beneficial option for TX and would AZ do that?
Anthony Franco
3:41
Don't think Arizona's dealing Kelly. They just extended him and have rotation questions already
Hits Liek Rays
3:42
The Rays need another hitter next year, especially if Brandon Lowe can’t make it back to his previous norm. They seem to need a left-handed hitter outfielder the most, and should have a bit of money to spend. Which are the best left-handed outfielder free agents and trade targets this winter?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Yeah they're another team that'd be an interesting fit for Conforto. Not a guy they'd be able to sign if he were at peak form, but on a one-year bounceback deal, it makes sense
Ben Gamel will be out there, can bring back David Peralta. Benintendi's a tier above those guys and probably too expensive for the Rays tastes

3:43
Thoughts on the O's trading Mullins for an established SP then signing a CF to a one year deal to buy time for Cowser?  Perhaps Kevin K to play some CF?
Anthony Franco
3:45
Tough one to pull off given how thin the center field market is this year. Wouldn't feel great about rolling into the season with Kiermaier as my starting CF

3:45
Will Nimmo be in hot demand this winter? What kind of a deal is he likely to get?
Anthony Franco
3:47
On that topic, I think Nimmo's going to be in huge demand for that reason. Wrote about this at greater length a couple weeks in one of the subscriber emails, so I encourage you to check that out if you're curious, but the number of CF-needy teams (Giants, Marlins, Dodgers, Rockies, Astros perhaps) paired with the limited alternatives should bode really well for him
I think he gets nine figures but expect Steve and Tim will push our final site prediction closer to 4/85, since they're lower on him because of the injury history

3:47
If you were Chris Young, who are your top three Managerial candidates and top three pitching coach targets
Anthony Franco
3:48
Not really a question I can answer without knowing them, since so much of the managerial jobs are managing personalities
3:49
I expect that the usual names (Will Venable, Joe Espada, Matt Quatraro, etc.) will be in the mix. There were rumors Texas thought Woodward wasn't a stern enough figure, so they'll probably check in on Joe Girardi or someone like that

Hi Anthony,  with talk of the Giants “going big” in FA this offseason, there appears to be speculation that they will try to sign Aaron Judge.  I think rather than commit $300M+ to one guy whose contract is likely to age poorly, they’d be better off spreading around the dough to 3-4 guys, as the Giants’ roster needs help in multiple places.  I’d rather have Trea Turner, Josh Bell, Rodon again, and a good RP or two than one star.  But, that’s just me, what do you think?  Thank you.
Anthony Franco
3:51
Disagree with the premise, or at least the examples you listed. Trea Turner's the #2 free agent in the class, he's going to top $250MM. He's very much in the star bucket, as is Rodón, who should beat nine figures pretty easily
3:53
So while it's defensible to say you'd rather spread some money around than make a run at Judge, you're looking more at like Chris Bassitt, Bell and bringing back Joc Pederson in that instance. I'd rather make a run at the star talent personally

Hey Anthony, thx and for the chat!  When does free agency status apply to players whose team did not make the playoffs?  Now….or after the WS is completed?  In other words, when exactly does the hot stove fire up?  Thank you!
Anthony Franco
3:54
Offseason starts five days after WS ends for everybody
Can make trades again the day after the last game of the Series but there's an exclusive negotiating window with your own free agents for five days

3:55
Got any names to look out for in the royals managerial search?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Similar response to the Rangers one earlier. Mostly expect it to be the same blend of managers who've been dismissed in the past couple years and bench coaches on good teams
Sunlight Graham
3:56
Any chance the Nats package some of their Soto return to get Patrick Corbin off the books for the new owners?
Anthony Franco
3:56
I can't see any way they do that, no
