Haha it's innovative. The players union would hate it since you're basically daring the Red Sox, Astros, etc. to spend $199.9MM (or one dollar below whatever threshold you set)
I think it'd function as a de facto salary cap for most teams
Thank you for the chat!

Heavy deferrals in post career periods are actually a win win for player and team especially if in high cost of living markets, correct? The team reduces present day value and pays out the contract when the cash flow isn't as consequential, and the player can recoup some of the lost value in reduced taxes if they relocate to a different area in retirement.

This is a more complex financial calculation than I have the ability to handle. My guess is that it's still much better for the team than the player because the loss associated with the devaluing of money in the future would outweigh the tax benefits

Any chance I still get traded?
Anthony Franco
5:02
Yeah, I think that's still a possibility. The trade market for middle infielders hasn't moved at all

It seems “true” closers are slowly becoming extinct. Do you think more teams with go with the closer by committee bullpen?
Anthony Franco
5:03
Yeah we've moved in this direction for about 15 years. The closer is gradually going extinct
Injuries
5:03
Looking at Eloy Jimenez' trajectory, have there ever been talented position players who populate the injured list for the first part of their career, and suddenly become stalwarts of health? Or is Eloy just a younger version of Byron Buxton, Ron Jones, or Mickey Mantle? In other words, do injury-prone position players tend to stay injury prone? (I know that TJ-surgery pitchers can have great recoveries.)

In aggregate, the best predictor of future injury is past injury history. So in general, when you have a player like Jiménez or Buxton, it's fair to downgrade them a little
But that doesn't mean you can't get runs of health mixed in there. Brandon Nimmo is the first one who comes to mind for me

Topped 100 games once in his first six seasons (one of those being the Covid year). Has been a picture of durability the last two

Ok I have to wrap this up here. Taking over news coverage from Steve for the evening
Sorry for the stuff I didn't cover. If you want to reach out on Twitter @affranco10, I'll get back to you on there within the next couple days
