Trade value's gone. I'm surprised he hasn't been DFA yet to be honest. With the new front office there, wouldn't surprise me if he's off the roster by Opening Day
4:59
It's a shame but the injuries just never allowed him to build off those first couple seasons

any word on Elvis Andrus (Angels I hope), David Peralta (Yankees I wish) or Gary Sanchez (?????...Minor league deal at this point???

Any news on Mike Moustakas, the ex reds infielder, on what team he will be playing for in 2023?
Anthony Franco
5:01
Nothing on Moustakas since he got released. Andrus was loosely tied to the Angels but it feels like they'd be better off going for pitching help if they've got one move left
5:02
Just seems the Yankees are at their limit financially and content to roll with Hicks and Cabrera for now. Guess I'd put Peralta in Texas if I had to guess? Gary's tough, feels like he might be bordering on minor league deal territory, yeah
5:03
Tigers should probably just throw him like 2-3 million
This is my second question
5:03
Crazy rule idea: the home team gets to decide whether to use a DH or not. The team makes the decision at a set time before each game
Anthony Franco
5:04
Ha this is never actually happening but I'm intrigued by the strategic elements that would be at play

Subject B Reynolds to LAD At a minimum would Dodgers need to trade either Miller or Stone as head liner ( in addition to 2 other top 100 prospects) to get Pirates attention?  Do you think Dodgers would entertain that or are they going full youth movement?
Anthony Franco
5:06
I doubt Pittsburgh's that rigid. If the Dodgers were willing to offer Cartaya or something (they wouldn't, but just for illustrative purposes), the Pirates would have to think about it even given the catching depth around in their system
It'd be two of the top five or so players from the system, though, and I don't think the Dodgers are doing that. They seem to really like Outman

As a Padres fan, I'm grateful to our ownership group for the talent they've brought in. Kinda concerned about the long contracts, but it seems to be the way the business is going. That said, being, all things considered will the Padres turn a profit? If so, that has got to put pressure on the other small market teams.
Anthony Franco
5:08
I have no idea if they're going to turn a profit on an annual basis but the franchise value will likely just keep going up and make it so the ownership group isn't super concerned about it
5:09
Seidler's been awesome, to echo your main point. I don't know that other teams are going to care much or follow in his footsteps, but it seems fun as hell to be a Padres fan right now -- which I can't imagine has been the case for most of that franchise's history

Thanks for the chat. A couple of new rules questions. Do you know if anyone has written about which pitchers and batters could be most impacted by the pitch clock? And could the rules to encourage base stealing lead to teams pitching out more?
Anthony Franco
5:12
I'm not sure about hitters but Statcast tracks which pitchers take the longest. It was apparently Jonathan Loasigia and Giovanny Gallegos last season. The top of the list is mostly relievers, which isn't all that surprising
5:13
Guessing they'll adjust to the clock pretty quickly but it could be a struggle early -- particularly for guys like Kenley Jansen and Aroldis Chapman (both of whom are in the top ten) who've been pitching forever
5:14
The pitchout aspect? I haven't heard that theory yet but it's an interesting one. Certainly seems plausible we'll see a few more of those, particularly once a pitcher has unsuccessfully tried a pickoff or two in an AB and doesn't want to throw over again because of the limit on step-offs

Who is the Astros backup catcher?
Anthony Franco
5:15
Looks like it'll be Korey Lee
Dave roberts
5:15
how many of our rookies do w think will have an impact. I hear good things about a lot of them
Anthony Franco
5:16
Outman's going to play a lot. Miguel Vargas should be in the lineup almost every day and would be my pick for NL Rookie of the Year right now. Ryan Pepiot's probably on and off the active roster again, Michael Busch could play his way into the left field mix midseason if he's making enough contact
Artie moreno
5:16
Michael Wacha and Elvis andrus are still out there along with some other people who could help
Anthony Franco
5:17
This is w/r/t the Angels but as previously mentioned, I like Wacha or one of the lefty relievers for them more than Andrus

Whats up with Josh Naylor? I see he isn't on team Canada. Also, is Bo gonna be Cleveland’s opening day catcher?
Anthony Franco
5:19
Josh Naylor said he wasn't playing in the WBC this year because he didn't want to put too much stress on his leg after his gruesome injury a couple years ago
He's not hurt, per se, just feels like he wants to be cautious
Bo Naylor's not the Opening Day catcher. That'll be Zunino, guessing the younger Naylor heads back to Columbus to continue to work on his defense back there
Tom Kelly's blues
5:19
Surprised Tucker lost his arbitration?
Anthony Franco
5:20
No, $7.5MM is a big ask for a first-year player who's not coming off an MVP or Cy Young season. There's a reason Matt's model projected him at $5.6MM
5:22
He's a great player. He'll be fine and bank significant earnings over the next couple seasons anyway. He presumably was hoping to push the first-year market forward, but the arb process just weighs so heavily for service time
Willie
5:22
Is the fact the Yankees have so few players in the WBC because of front office pressure?
Anthony Franco
5:22
Seems like part of it considering they blocked Severino from participating
5:23
Alright that's all the questions in here and I have to get a Jon Singleton minor league deal on the site (he's a Brewer again)
Thanks for all the questions and for supporting the site
Obviously feel free to throw stuff at me on Twitter before next Friday if you'd like. Enjoy your weekends! We'll do this again next week
