Most intrigued by Ponce, which isn't surprising since he got by far the most money. Feels like he's got a shot to be a league average starter, maybe a little above. Everyone else seems like a 5/6

You don't think the Astros would take on Brian Reynolds contract?  The difference between his and Paredes contract is less than what they traded away with Sanchez.
Anthony Franco
4:15
In the short term, yeah, but it's five years and $76M for ages 31-35 on a corner outfielder coming off his worst season in four years. Reynolds turned it around in the second half, and I don't think it's necessarily a bad contract, but swapping him for a player who fits perfectly in their home park and was one of their 3-4 best position players before the injury last season wouldn't make sense to me
Next Gen Nats?

When do you think the Nationals will be relevant again? I'm considering checking out, and want to know how many years before I check back in.

Feels like they're starting over a three-year process at least

Do the Mets really think Brett Baty can play RF?
Anthony Franco
4:18
I imagine he'd be serviceable out there but a lot of the value is that he turned himself into a good defensive second/third baseman and the plan certainly seems to be for Benge to come up early in the year

I have a number of free agents next year - Horrner, Happ, Suzuki, Boyd, Tallion and Imanga. Which ones should I try to extend?
Anthony Franco
4:20
Hoerner's the only of those guys I'd really try to get done this spring. If they lock him into second base long term, gives them more flexibility to use Shaw as a trade chip at the deadline
4:22
I'd be fine letting all the pitchers walk. Can reevaluate if Boyd has another strong but he's 35 with a lengthy injury history, there's no rush. Let Suzuki and Happ play out the season, see whether either or both warrants a QO and which one they want to prioritize. Re-signing both into their mid-30s really ties up the roster flexibility

padres option 1.    Sogn Giolito for 3/42 and castellanos for the minimum.   Option 2.  Trade Estrada to Boston for Early and sign Hoskins for 1/4 and Phillips for 2/12.  What’s the better option
Anthony Franco
4:23
Way under on the Giolito money. Boston's not giving up Early for Estrada. Hoskins at 1/4 seems about right. Phillips re-signed with the Dodgers

The Tigers failed to secure any bats in the offseason.  Many thought it was just the Illitches being cheap until they opened the pursestrings pretty wide for Framber and JV.  Are they confident in some combination of Baez, McKinstry, Vierling, and possibly Max Anderson or Jace Jung on the left side of the infield?  Any other explanations, especially after Geno signed a one year deal that wouldn't have blocked McGonigle in 2027?
Anthony Franco
4:27
I'm good with it. Geno would've been a fine fit but prioritizing the rotation, especially with Olson down, made more sense. McGonigle's not far off and they still have Keith floating around as a third base option. Vierling seems like an organizational favorite whose '25 season was an injury write-off
4:29
Harris talked about believing this is a legitimately good offense this week, and while there's obviously a GM speak element to that, that their only big lineup move was to QO Gleyber suggests they really believe that. Truth is somewhere in between the first half where everybody was an All-Star and the second where everyone other than Dingler sucked but I'm generally on the optimistic end for them

Who says No... Jasson Dominguez for Brett Baty?

I'd pass if I were the Mets but would love it from an entertainment perspective

Any updates on thr plans for the Atlanta Braves TV brodcasts and possible costs ? Thanks as always !!!!
Anthony Franco
4:32
Seems like the plan is for them to create their own RSN. Nothing yet on pricing. I imagine that won't come out until the team officially announces it
4:34
Rangers did this last year and charged $100 for a season-long streaming package. Seems like they're raising that to $120-150 this season depending on when people sign up. Obviously doesn't mean the Braves will do the exact same, just noting as a potential ballpark
Alright a little beyond 90 minutes so I'm going to wrap here and see how we're looking on news
4:35
Thanks to you all for the questions each week and for continuing to support the site! It remains very much appreciated
4:36
As always, feel free to throw stuff at me on X @affranco10, especially if I didn't get to your question here

I'm taking next Friday off to help my sister move. Haven't finalized chat plans yet but my guess is that Steve and I will swap and I'll take the Monday one
Should have the two subscriber chats in either case, just might be at a different time by an hour or two from the usual schedule. Have a great weekend and we'll do this again soon!
