I think they're still a year away anyways, so if they weren't going to play for a Fried or Burnes type, I get it. But they should try to lock some of their in-house core up on extensions and there's no excuse to not be a legitimate player for free agents on 3-4+ year deals next offseason

Do the Yankees have to attach a prospect to Stroman to get a team to take on some of his salary?
Anthony Franco
4:13
Depends on how much they're trying to offload but if they paid it down to $8-10MM, should be able to find a taker without attaching young talent

Justin Turner an upgrade over Encarnacion. (sp) at DH for Giants ?
Anthony Franco
4:14
Yeah I think Encarnacion is a Quad-A guy because of the strikeouts. Turner would be a nice boost

Why doesn't an Arenado for LaMahieu plus either Roderick Arias or Spencer Jones (or whoever) work? The Cards don't shed a lot of money but they shed some and they're done with it a year earlier. They also walk away with a good prospect. The Yanks get someone to play 3B in the here and now. What am I missing?
Anthony Franco

This is less appealing to the Cardinals than the reported Stroman framework that they rebuffed a couple months ago. Could still argue that STL overplayed their hand and should be willing to do this, but it looks like they thought the market would value Arenado more highly than it did and they're hoping for a rebound first half that makes the contract more palatable for a deadline trade

When a player is put on waivers, Let's say he's an NL player,Is it worst record to 1st in the national league and then the American league picks Or is it just worst to 1st in both leagues together?
Anthony Franco
4:19
Worst to first overall. The league-specific waivers used to be a thing specifically for the post-July 31 waiver trade system, but that was scrapped a few years ago

Anthony, any last moves you would make for the Atlanta Braves before ST games begin?
Anthony Franco

Wouldn't mind another reliever who can bump one of Perdomo or Pilar out of the middle relief group. I think they're mostly set until they see how things look with Acuna and Strider back midseason though

Nats prospects LHP Alex Clemmey and 3B Cayden Wallace for LHP JP Sears and RHP Michel Otanez - who says no? Sears solidifies a Nats rotation who can use an innings eater and Otanez strengthens their bullpen. And both are cheap with years of control. A's get a high risk, high ceiling prospect in Clemmey and a more glove than bat option for a future third baseman in Wallace (who is blocked in the Nats system by Brady House).
Anthony Franco
4:23
Don't think Sears moves the needle enough for the Nats to do that. They've got a bunch of cheap, lower-ceiling starters to provide bulk innings already

What do you think of the Rangers bullpen, better than last year ?
Anthony Franco
4:24
Better depth but they're not going to have anything as reliable as the Yates/D-Rob one-two that they did last season
4:25
I'd like it more if they moved Leiter to the 'pen. Don't think there's starter command there but the stuff should play in relief

Which Jackson would you take long term  (Holliday, Chourio, Merrill)?
Anthony Franco
4:28
Man, I think Merrill? Better defensive profile and pure contact skills than Chourio, and the ease with which he turned himself into a plus center fielder with no experience was unreal. Obviously still really bullish on all three. Can't take Holliday when the other two were so much better in year one though

Keeping in mind the Brewers budgetary constraints, please educate me on the Brewers KMart shopping philosophy. Is it predicated on bringing on as many pitchers as possible, for example, with the hope that one or two maybe shake out? How long can they get away with that m.o.?
Anthony Franco
4:31
It has to be more of a volume approach, bringing in guys who have the flexibility to move between the back of the rotation and multi-inning relief. They're not going to pay mid-rotation starter prices, so it's a jumble at the back end between their internal promotions and the Alexander/Junis types that they can bring in via FA

Alright, we're at 90 minutes so I need to wrap up here
Always happy to take anything that I didn't get to on X @affranco10
