I don't think anyone's saying yesterday's scorer called them wrong based on precedent. I'm not. It's more about whether we should continue to do that
4:20
Your second point is correct though. Teams want pitchers who miss bats for a reason

Happy (belated) Opening Day! Who do you think is going to have more innings pitched this year? Christian Scott, Jonah Tong, Tobias Meyers, or Sean Manaea?
Anthony Franco
4:22
I'd take Manaea to log the biggest workload even though he's starting in the pen. Doubt he's getting pushed off the MLB roster entirely and feels likelier than Myers to move back to the rotation midseason once injuries come up

whats the most suprising roster decision in terms of who made the cut for opening day?
Anthony Franco
4:24
Hmm I don't know that anyone did anything super surprising. Angels maybe? Wouldn't have expected them to jump Ryan Johnson back into the rotation from A-ball (or Walbert Urena to make the team)
4:25
It's very Angels though, and in this case, I think the correct call -- at least with Johnson. Not something they would've done if Manoah and Gray-Rod were healthy and pitching well in camp but alas

What's ur take on Cole young

Above-average regular this year. Probably not hitting many homers but the plate discipline is legit and he should hit the ball harder than he did last year, 25-30 doubles with strong OBP

I know it’s only one game but should Teas look for a second baseman
Anthony Franco
4:29
I like Smith well enough but agree he's a better fit in a utility role. Not something that's getting fixed in March though

Are there any upgrades to the Phillies outfield in the near future or trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:31
Depends on Crawford really. He's going to get a couple months, as he should. Outfield as a whole is the biggest potential weak point on the roster though. Going to need a better right-handed complement to Marsh again at the very least. Obviously there's a chance Adolis is just done at this point and they'll need to add an everyday right fielder
4:34
Tough to say who's going to be out there until we get some movement in the standings. Brenton Doyle could work there if he bounces back. Beyond that, mostly need to wait and see which teams play well
4:35
Laureano would be a great fit if the Padres underperform. O's would dangle Ward or O'Neill again in July if they're out of it

freaky stat from spring training: Col- Rumfield:56ab/2k= .03 k rate

Yeah impressive stuff. I doubt he's going to hit for enough power to be an everyday first baseman but the approach has been great throughout his minor league career and he certainly earned a look
4:37
Maybe a Nolan Schanuel type profile as a lower-end regular

Awesome to see recently retired pitchers like Adam Ottavino and Clayton Kershaw turn into commentators. It's uncanny how often they correctly predict what a pitcher is gonna throw. Who do you think would be another great player-turned-commentator when they retire (or an already-retired player who should be a commentator)?
Anthony Franco
4:39
Hmm, this is a good question. I feel like you can count on both Verlander and Scherzer to be pretty blunt while offering a lot of insight into pitching approach
4:42
Position player side is a little tougher, I guess. Lindor and Julio Rodríguez definitely have the charisma for TV, not sure if they'd be a little too inclined to default to cliche as analysts though. Correa and Bregman would probably both be pretty great
Alright I have to wrap this one up

As always, happy to take questions on X @affranco10 if I didn't get to yours here
Saw your message Dan and will forward over the season predictions after I wrap this up
