I assume they'd at least put him on the Era Committee
4:24
The Hall's entire justification for excluding him has been that they honor consider placement on MLB's permanently ineligible list to be disqualifying.

They'd need to retroactively change that logic to exclude him if he's reinstated by MLB. Which I guess they could do, but they'd no longer have the ability to essentially pass the buck to MLB on that question

If Vladdy has a year in line with his 2021/2024 production, do you think he gets the 14-15 year deal at 45 AAV, he seems to be looking for?  If you ran the Jays would you give an extension for the 585/13 that Ortiz floated?
Anthony Franco

Would not have gone there if I were the Jays either. I think he could get to 600 with a huge platform year and the benefit of open market bidding, but I wouldn't have preemptively guaranteed him that if I were Toronto
4:28
Totally get why Vlad would try for something in that range if he's going to bypass free agency though. The Soto deal so dramatically raised the ceiling on what a top-end free agent may believe he'll command that the team should need to make some kind of absurd offer to convince them to forego the chance to see what else is out there

If the Athletics are in the playoff race in July, should they consider trading Kurtz for Sandy Alcantara?
Anthony Franco
4:32
It's bold but if Alcantara looks like his pre-surgery self, I think it's a fair starting point. They'd get two and a half years of control over an ace. The contract's significant but well below market value, and the A's are clearly more willing to accommodate eight-figure salaries than they have been at any other point under Fisher

Why wouldn't Toronto have preemptively offered him that? They are the Gold Medalists in being in the mix without actually signing anyone. Sooner or later they need to strike first, and with every missed free agent between George Springer and Vlad (if he leaves) the price only gets steeper

I get the frustration but if you get a merely very good season from Vlad (the kind he turned in between 2022-23), that deal goes south pretty quickly. They're also potentially walking the line on a rebuild that could involve a front office change if they don't compete this year. Probably in a better position keeping the deadline trade option open

So far the Giants rotation looks pretty solid with some depth. Who's your favorite for 5th starter?
Anthony Franco
4:38
Probably Harrison but ideally, they'd have Birdsong in there too and move Hicks back to the bullpen

I was pleased to see Connor Prielipp back in the updated top 5 Twins prospects on mlb.com - assuming he can finally stay healthy, what could we expect from him over the next couple seasons?
Anthony Franco

Still think the likeliest outcome is he's a good reliever given the durability questions, but if you assume he stays healthy, he's probably got mid-rotation ceiling
Alright, I need to wrap things up here
