2024 post hype sleeper
5:13
Any former top prospects look like they’re on the verge of “ putting it all together “ this spring? Thanks
Anthony Franco

I don't think ST is a good indicator of this. A lot of fool's gold this time of year

As a Red Sox fan, I’m not quite as upbeat as the team is on Brayan Bello and I feel he will most likely end up a a # 3 or 4 starter.   I still approve though, of the extension given him.  I also find it highly unlikely the Red Sox will attempt to sign Jordan Montgomery or any other moderate priced pitcher.  Owner John Henry has made it known through his representatives in the Fenway Group that the Red Sox are not going to be invested in through the acquisition of quality free agents until the Red Sox are considered competitive and the team with due to injury is surely less competitive now.   It surely isn’t fair to us fans, but Mr. Henry, for whatever his reasons, has seemingly made a determination to adhere to certain principles and as Principle Owner won’t budge and doesn’t have to.   (There is a hint of dissent perhaps developing however among the top brass and Alex Cora, which may be the most exciting thing for us Sox fans to watch this season! )

Yeah the Bello deal seemed fine to me. I don't mind it for Boston but I thought he did well to get pretty close to Hunter Greene money. Agree that he's more of a mid-rotation guy than a future ace

WHAT SENSE DOES IT MAKE FOR A LOW BUDGET TEAM LIKE THE PIRATES TO PAY 10M FOR A RELIEF PITCHER (CHAPMAN) WHILE STILL PUSHING FOR STARTERS?
Anthony Franco
5:15
It does not. I didn't get it at the time and it looks even weirder in hindsight since they haven't done anything of note to fix the rotation
Mr Boros

Who puts up bigger power numbers this year……..Holliday, Langford or Chourio? Thanks!
Anthony Franco
5:15
Power perspective, give me Langford. I think Holliday will be the best overall player though

Is anyone going to offer a job to Rich Hill or Zack Greinke? Every team needs pitching and yet proven pitchers are still unemployed. Lorenzen, too. What gives?
Anthony Franco
5:17
Seems like Lorenzen's holding out for two years. If he were willing to take one, he'd probably be signed by now
Hill wants to wait until midway through the season. I don't think Greinke's recent performance has merited a major league contract and I'm not sure he'd take an NRI
MLB expansion
5:17
Do you see all the talent still available, from JD to the Boras 2, as a sign mlb can support another 2-4 teams?
Michael
5:18
With the season opener quickly approaching, do you expect the remaining big names to sign or hold out into the season, and for how long?   We don’t hear much noise around which teams are truly interested
Anthony Franco
5:20
I don't think anyone notable will hold out beyond Opening Day. On the expansion angle, I just don't really agree with the premise about MLB being able to "support" a certain number of teams. Expansion will slightly diminish the average quality of teams but everyone will quickly adjust and there'll be a new normal at 32 teams
Rob Manfred
5:21
Do you think the Goldilocks ball scandal encouraged his retirement quicker?
Anthony Franco
5:21
Ha, by this logic, shouldn't he have retired in 2015?
Ryan Redleg
5:21
Your thoughts on the Reds pitching staff, and Elly De La Cruz?  Elly worked with Jaun Soto and Robinson Cano during the off-season and has changed his stance as well.
Anthony Franco
5:22
Pitching staff is much improved. Still volatile with the lack of proven track record for most of the starters but I like the upside enough for them to compete in the NLC
5:24
Remain optimistic on Elly given his youth and the massive tools. He's never going to be a great pure hitter but I expect the contact skills to improve enough where the rest of the physical gifts make him an All-Star
Modern pitching
5:24
Modern pitcher usage requires an extra roster spot or 6th starter. Do you think MLB teams will acquiesce or are they using this as a negotiating tactic against the mlbpa?
Anthony Franco
5:25
If the union wants to add another roster spot, they'll have to give something up for it. Nothing comes free in negotiations. Even if it's arguably mutually beneficial, the side that wants it less is going to demand something in return from the side that wants it more
Alright, going to wrap up here. Dodgers are indeed flipping Mookie and Lux, at least for now, so I'm going to get that on the site

Shout out to Best Lineup on the call
Feel free to throw stuff at me on X as always. Thanks for all the questions this week and for your continued support of the site! Have a great weekend everybody
