Oh man I have no idea haha
He's already making $4M as a Super Two, should be the highest earning reliever through arb ever
3:43
Let's say something like $30M for the final three arb years (assuming no rotation move). Value first three free agent years at $25M per and maybe you've got his attention?
3:44
We've never seen a team do anything close to that for an arb-eligible reliever -- and I doubt the Padres would this far out given the injury history and general fear for anyone who throws this hard -- but I can't see why Miller would settle for something that doesn't shatter any kind of preexisting precedent
Philly A's
3:45
A's win a 1-0 game in NY and Springs with 7 no hit innings!  World Series bound!!   In all seriousness, whats the timeline for Rookers injury?
Anthony Franco
3:46
A's won't know that until they know if it's an oblique strain based on today's MRI. Those usually cost over a month though
Brewer Fan

Have you  heard any buzz about Andrew Fischer? I know he's more a '27 possibility but after his WBC performance and pipeline listing him as the #1 3B prospect in the game, he is getting a good amount of hype locally and it seems like too much to me.
Anthony Franco
3:47
He's a good prospect certainly, generally slotted in the 8-12 range in one of the best systems in the league
3:48
The "best 3B prospect in the game" thing could overrate him if you're not really familiar with how prospect rankings work, though
3:49
Most top infield prospects are shortstops -- even the ones whom scouts think might move to third down the line. Defensive floor is higher if you've got a chance to play up the middle obviously
3:50
When you're already a third baseman in A-ball, as Fischer is, the risk is higher and you're going to be pushed behind most or all of the top shortstops

Well, here come the injuries again.  They've only called up JP France as far as pitching goes right now.  With all the long relievers they have at their disposal,  can you see them playing some Tampa Bay Rays ball and piggy backing them off each other?
Anthony Franco
3:51
Yep, basically no choice. Not feeling good about any of McCullers, Bolton, Blubaugh, Teng or Weiss trying to get through a lineup twice -- much less three times
3:52
Imai maybe not either, though he's going to have a longer leash. I'm not worried about Burrows, but everyone else (assuming IL stint for Javier) is just getting thrown together on the fly

3:53
How long a leash for Marcell Ozuna?  What are the Pirate options should he reach the end of it?
Anthony Franco
3:53
They just gave him $12M for some reason so into June, at least
3:55
The option is to release him and have O'Hearn and Lowe get more DH reps while using Yorke (in the infield) and Mangum (outfield) a little more frequently

Thank you for the chat :)When teams sign the young star prospects to extensions i.e. Pratt, Churio, etc...If the player remains in the minors, like Pratt, do they make the salary immediately or does that only kick in once they are at the major league level?
Anthony Franco
3:56
Immediately, big appeal for guys like Pratt and Emerson to sign when they do
Mets Man
3:56
David Peterson looks rough out on the mound. You think he might get bumped for someone like Tong or Scott?
Anthony Franco
3:58
Mendoza was asked this directly on Wednesday and said no. Not like Tong or Scott have been super sharp in Triple-A so far either
KingTiger

Kyle Isbel - Is this finally the year?
Anthony Franco
3:58
I don't think there will be any year in which Kyle Isbel hits
4:00
The glove is good enough that even a 90 wRC+ or something would make him an average regular but I'm skeptical he'll even get there
Skubal
4:00
IF - the Tiger falter and IF - they decide to trade Skubal, who would the Mets have to offer for two months of him (plus playoffs). Obviously they won't trade McLean or Tong or Scott, but who?
Anthony Franco
4:02
Obviously not McLean but if Tong and Scott (assuming you'd include Benge) are also all off the table, the Tigers would be able to beat it
Jeremy Zoll
4:02
Has Taj Bradley turned the corner? Is there hope for Mick Abel?
Anthony Franco
4:06
Have to make it a point to catch Bradley's next start, haven't seen any of his first three. I don't see a whole lot different on paper. He's always been held back a little by the fastball playing below its velocity, and that's more of an issue once it warms up and the ball starts flying a little bit
4:07
First few starts have been dominant, though, and he's clearly had talent going back to his time in the minors
4:08
I just think Abel's going to end up in relief eventually because the control hasn't come along
Skubal
4:08
"the Tigers would be able to beat it." I don't understand. The Tigers would trade him to themselves?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Sorry, as in the Tigers would get a more compelling offer from someone else

What’s the real definition of barrel rate? How’s it measured
Anthony Franco
4:10
MLB does a pretty good job explaining their methodology with the Statcast stuff
4:11
I don't personally put much stock into barrel rate because it's largely capturing something that'll show up in bottom line production anyway
4:13
In super tiny samples, especially early in the season when weather's a bigger factor, could see it being a little more useful. But by and large,  their cutoff for a barrel is so overwhelmingly positive that they're going to overlap with HR, XBH, slugging percentage, etc.

Alright, I have to wrap things up here. It's a little tighter schedule this week with Steve's vacation
He'll be back next week but I'm traveling on Friday for an out of town wedding. So I'll move to the Monday chat and he'll have the Friday one
Times might be different than usual by an hour or two, so keep an eye on that
