If Matt Mclain doesn't start hitting better in the next few weeks (and I think he will), what would it take for the Reds to trade for CJ Abrams?

Nats probably aren't doing this until close to the deadline at the earliest -- more time for fringe contenders to sort themselves into buyer/seller buckets and drum up demand
4:17
For the Reds to pull it off? Feels like it has to be built around Alfredo Duno. He's their only Top 100 guy at BA or FanGraphs, assuming Sal Stewart and Chase Burns are off the table
4:19
Giants reportedly dangled Josuar Gonzalez for Abrams over the offseason and Nats said no. I assume some of that is the Nationals specifically being lower on Gonzalez than some public outlets that have him as a top 25 overall prospect but it's a pretty clear sign that they're not just taking whatever they can get for Abrams -- whose value is probably up a little bit from where it was over the winter
4:20
Duno and Lowder seems like a reasonable starting point for Washington

Would the Cubs be smart to extend Carson Kelly now . He has been a heck of a contributor the past year or so . What would an extension cost the Cubs ?

This kind of timeshare catcher usually gets two years in the mid-teens (see: Kyle Higashioka, Danny Jansen, Victor Caratini)
4:23
I like Kelly a little more than those guys and could see him pushing close to $20MM total. Should be limited to two years though

Who are a few players that may be trade deadline candidates that we didn't forsee being candidates coming into the season?
Anthony Franco

We'll see what happens with teams like Philly, Mets, etc. They were bucketed as likely buyers coming into the year, would obviously change things if they're even soft sellers
Anthonio Senzatela looks pretty good as a reliever. Maybe the Mets are running out of patience with David Peterson even if they get back into the .500 range
4:26
Most interesting one to me (assuming Angels are firmly no on Soriano even if they collapse) is whether the White Sox would think about trading Munetaka Murakami this summer
4:27
I doubt they'd do it given the optics but it'd be pretty easy to make the case that it's the best baseball decision if he's rocking a 135 wRC+ at the All-Star Break
4:29
They're not good this year and very likely will not contend in 2027. He's on a two-year contract and if he really can pull off a Schwarber-lite profile where the strikeouts just don't matter, he's going to price himself way beyond any contract Jerry Reinsdorf has ever signed

When is Jason done in Scranton

Domínguez is just biding his time there awaiting an injury. They're not learning much from letting him destroy bad Triple-A pitching but it's too early to bench Trent Grisham and the corners are obviously blocked
4:33
He's clearly a better player than Randal Grichuk but Grich is probably getting DFA once Anthony Volpe comes back anyway and they're amidst a stretch of facing a bunch of LHP -- which is all they signed Grichuk to do in the first place
Alright, we're a little beyond 90 minutes so I'm going to wrap this one here
