The sky is falling!!!! Please help me feel better about this team
Anthony Franco
3:37
They'll be fine. Sloppy start but this lineup is good, they're going to hit
The Willies of SF
3:38
Both the Royals and the Guardians desperately need some offense from their outfield. What would it take to pry Kris Bubic from the Royals or Parker Messick from the Guardians?
Anthony Franco
3:39
Those guys aren't getting traded right now. Bubic might at the deadline, can't see any way Messick moves at all this year
3:41
If you're looking for an SF fit specifically, just not seeing an outfielder for Bubic swap. None of Ramos, Encarnacion, Gilbert or Oliva are getting him

Mayo's spring training was promising, but hasn't hit a lick when it counts. I know it's only a handful of games, but do you see anything positive that leads to a permanent full time role? Thanks
Anthony Franco
3:43
Eh, I still think the plate discipline and power he has shown in the minors can make him a decent hitter. Not a third baseman though and probably not enough bat to play every day at first or DH
Jays 4th starter
3:43
How are the Jays going to plug the hole in the rotation now that Ponce is out for weeks (months)?  The other three injured starters are at least a couple of turns through the rotation away.  Seems like only yesterday we were asking how were they ever going to fit 8 starting pitchers into the rotation?
Anthony Franco
3:44
Probably just need one of Chad Dallas or CJ Van Eyk to start a couple times and hope they hold you in it for four innings
3:46
Not ideal but they're not going to do anything crazy when they have three starters coming back in a couple weeks. Doesn't seem out of the question they get Berríos back by mid-late April. If you go 0-2 or 1-2 during a couple of spot starts from the organizational guys, it's fine
Small sample size
3:47
It's too early to ring alarm bells, but is it? What player or team do you think is off to a slow start and it is indicative of a continued trend?
Anthony Franco
3:48
I really don't have one that's not just rooted in what of them at the start of the season. Six to seven games don't tell you much
3:49
A's striking out as often as they have so far needs to turn around quickly, I guess
3:50
I think they'll be fine offensively but their whole thing is that they need to outhit a bad pitching staff and if it takes the lineup another couple weeks to get going, they'll dig themselves a hole from which they can't recover
Brandon Little
3:50
Am I on some thin Canadian ice in the Blue Jays bullpen?
Anthony Franco
3:51
Still has an option and he's a lefty who throws 97 and struck out 31% of opponents last year
Can't see him getting DFA but a little surprised they haven't optioned him already
George
3:51
Yeah, sure, that other guy is starting today, but will the Tigers call up Max Clark too this year?
Anthony Franco
3:53
I'd be surprised if he's not up by the All-Star Break. Could be May or June if Meadows doesn't start hitting at least a little bit

Jose wipe all everyone's FAAB out Fernandez. Normally I stay away from these types in FAAB but watching this kid on the field I can't help but be impressed with his overall athleticism and skill. The bat is loud and quick.... Am I crazy going in a little on him. Eligible at 3 positions as well so they can find time for him.
Anthony Franco
3:54
It was a hell of a debut but I've got a tough time seeing any value in a redraft. He was only even called up by default because they ran out of healthy position players on the 40-man
3:55
Might've shown enough that they'll keep him over Tawa once Del Castillo comes back but I don't think he's jumping into an everyday role or anything. He's only played one game at Triple-A
Hmm
3:55
RHH catcher Kyle Higashioka traded to Yanks  for LHH catcher JC Escarra and a low level prospect to Rangers. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:58
I get the handedness argument and the Yankees probably still love Higgy in the clubhouse. I don't hate it, though the Rangers might have to kick in a little bit of money. Not sure the Yankees use the backup catcher enough to see Higgy as a $6M upgrade (plus the CBT hit)

What do you think PCA would have made in his arb and pre-arb years? i.e. what are they paying for his free agent year
Anthony Franco
4:00
Would've qualified for Super Two next offseason. Neto got $4.15M in that process last year with slightly lesser counting stats and no real accolades
4:03
PCA probably starts around 5 and climbs around $5M per from there. Guessing he comes in around 50 for the arb seasons so the two FA agent years are in the $32-35M range

I'm 36 years old and worried the Mariners aren't gonna make a world series before I die.
Anthony Franco
4:04
I think they're the best positioned team in the American League for the next 3-5 seasons between the current roster and high-end farm talent
I'd honestly be really surprised if they don't make one before the end of the decade

Any concrete info on why Giolito hasn't signed yet? With Darvish effectively not being paid for 2026, feel like this is still a prime get for SD.
Anthony Franco
4:05
No clue, but Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune pushed back against the Darvish/Giolito speculation and said the Padres have known for months that Darvish was agreeing not to get paid
4:06
With the implication that they basically already used that money on Song, Canning, Márquez, Andujar, etc.

Do you think this makes Rivas, Raley or Canzone candidates to be traded at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:07
Rivas isn't going to have much trade value. Raley neither unless he's hitting well enough that the M's wouldn't want to give him up. Canzone's probably too valuable in a strong side platoon role
Joshua

If you could make one realistic and fair trade right now today, what would it be?
Anthony Franco
4:08
The Daylen Lile/AJ Blubaugh swap that I've pushed since February still stands

Which of the recent extensions do you think will end up aging the worst?
Anthony Franco
4:11
I mostly like them. Guess I'll take the Cooper Pratt one? Don't hate it or anything but he feels more like a league average regular than one with a huge offensive ceiling. Mentioned this on the pod as well but would not have expected Pratt to get $20M more than Colt Keith did a couple years ago
4:12
Alright, going to wrap up here. Smaller queue than usual today with kind of a dead time on the hot stove calendar, so mostly got through everything on this one
