Hey everyone, hope you enjoyed your week!
It's been a fun start to the season, let's discuss
SteveM

What is your take on Logan Webb?
Anthony Franco
4:01
He was my NL Cy Young pick so that tells you all you need to know
4:02
Not a great first two starts from a run prevention perspective but the strikeouts and grounders look good

Can you see Max Kepler and Joey Gallo having bounce back seasons?
Anthony Franco
4:03
I'm more on a Gallo bounceback than Kepler. I've kind of abandoned hope on Kepler taking the expected step forward at this point. Just don't think he has the bat control for it
4:04
Gallo's always going to whiff a ton obviously but I don't see any reason to believe the power just disappeared

Have you ever heard of a situation where a player has been ejected amd after umpires discuss it decision is reversed and he is allowed back in the game ? Is that even possible ? Thanks
Anthony Franco
4:04
I don't believe you can do this. If it's even permissible, it wouldn't happen. The other umpires aren't going to show up the umpire with the quick hook by overruling him

Hey, Anthony.  Absolutely hate the Ghost Runner.  (Baseball's a game of attrition.  You don't want to play 17 innings...score some damned runs.)    Pardon my ignorance here but does the runner get credit for scoring a run that way.  And does the pitcher get charged with an earned run??  Thanks again.
Anthony Franco
4:05
I also hate the ghost runner, at least before the 12th. Don't think there's any hope of going back though
The run scored counts for the baserunner. It's an unearned run on the pitcher's ledger

I'm set with SS and 2B, but how would you rank these for MI in a dynasty league: Kim, Vargas (soon elig), McMahon, Stott?  Thanks
Anthony Franco
4:06
Think I'd go Vargas, McMahon, Stott, Kim

I attended several spring training games ans was impressed with the speed of the game. Have there been any complaints about the pace of play?
Anthony Franco
4:07
A couple pitchers have had some issues with it. Carlos Carrasco said this week that he felt the clock decreased his velocity by giving him less time to bounce back between pitches, contributing to a dip in his performance
4:08
I don't know that he was "complaining" so much as just acknowledging it -- he also said the stuff you'd expect about having to adjust to the rules -- but it was clearly something he felt contributed to a dip in performance. I buy that as a possibility but also think that if the pitch clock helps out offense by making life a little harder on pitchers, the game as a whole is better for it
Eduardo Escobar
4:09
How long do the Mets give Escobar to start hitting?  He did not hit in spring training and is not hitting here in the regular season.  Let's assume Baty's thumb is fine.  Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:09
If Escobar's still hitting like this 2-3 weeks from now, I'd go to Baty

Saw a trade proposal (purely speculative) for Lars Nootbaar and Tommy Edman to go to Seattle for Logan Gilbert.  Think that would even be logical?
Anthony Franco
4:10
Don't think either team would do it. Seattle loves Crawford at shortstop and already has a decent second baseman in Wong. Nootbaar would be an upgrade in left field but not significant enough I could see them giving up Gilbert
4:11
And St. Louis would be subtracting two lineup regulars, both of whom the front office has talked about being really high on

Why no love for Ha-Seong Kim?  Behind Stott?  Why?
Anthony Franco
4:13
I like all four players and could go either way on Kim vs. Stott (assuming the question was from a fantasy perspective). Think Stott has the slight edge in power upside, plus a more favorable park and more favorable platoon matchups as a left-handed hitter
I prefer Kim in real life because of the glove

The Giants pitching strategy seems to be to go with 6 starters with Webb, and likely Cobb, on a 5 day rotation and mix the others in depending on match-ups and use the odd starter along with Junis and Hjelle as bulk innings guys and have the starters only go around five innings. Seems like a good strategy as long as all the starters by in and adapt to more undefined roles.
Anthony Franco
4:14
Yeah I agree. This is how I'd approach things to open the season and adjust as needed when injuries come up

4:14
Hi! Where do you think Miggy will end up on the career hit list.
Anthony Franco
4:16
Interesting one. He's 24th right now with 3091. Feels reasonable to assume he plays in a little more than half their games, gets around 300 at-bats this year. If he hits .250, that's 75 more hits
Which would tie him with Beltré for 17th at 3166. Ripken is next at 3184. I'll go between those two and say Miggy ends up 17th

Is the AZ bullpen closer by committee? Seems Chafin might be their best bet but he seems more likely to be the 8th inning guy.
Anthony Franco
4:18
Yeah I think so. McGough, Chafin and Jameson all have one save apiece. They gave McGough the ninth with a one-run lead against San Diego a couple days ago and he immediately gave up two homers and got walked off
Feels like they'll just play based on matchups. I agree that Chafin's their best reliever in a vacuum but don't think they'd want to commit him to the ninth and reduce flexibility earlier in the game, especially against other clubs' best LH bats

Is there any chance the Braves are finally ridding themselves of Ozuna?
Anthony Franco
4:19
I've given up predicting when the Braves are releasing Ozuna. Feels like it should've happened a while ago
Quick pitch violation???
4:19
Hi Anthony. I think the pitch clock has worked as intended. I’m loving these quick games. However, when a pitcher wants to work quickly but the batter isn’t ready, the pitcher is called for a violation. This doesn’t make sense to me. Your thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:20
Theoretically shouldn't happen. The batter has to be in the box and facing the pitcher with eight seconds left on the clock to prevent this. If the batter isn't ready by then, the umpire assesses an automatic strike

Good afternoon Anthony, On one hand the Braves have a solid team with good long-term investments. On the other, they still need a left-hander and pitching. What can they possibly do to acquire these assets? Grissom/Shewmake is a very small start. Do they have anything left in the system to acquire someone that can help. Maybe, get that LF or pitching they will need?
Anthony Franco
4:22
Yeah they should be able to pull off what they need to, even with maybe the worst farm system in the league. They don't need impact players. Left field and the back of the rotation look like the biggest areas of concern, I agree. They've got top-end starting pitching already and there are David Peralta/Robbie Grossman type corner outfielders available at the deadline every summer for very little
