Robert Jr to LAD for Jose DePaula who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Can't see the Dodgers doing that. I think the Sox were right to hold Robert into the season to let him rebuild value but it's been a rough start on the heels of a terrible year
3:57
I expect Pages to hit but agree he's not an ideal fit for regular CF work. Not much out there in the way of established center fielders on the trade front, though, especially if Robert doesn't dial it in. If Pages continues to struggle, I'd bring up Kim and kick Edman back out there

What happens when McNeil returns to the Mets? How likely is it that both Baty and Acuña go to Syracuse and Goodrum comes up?
Mets are 6-3 with no contributions from the young position players, Alvarez (IL), Vientos, Baty, Mauricio (IL), and Acuña. Which ones do you expect to contribute a lot more in 2025?

3:58
Please join me on the Brett Baty is a AAAA player train. There is still some room for some reason.
Anthony Franco
3:59
No concern about Vientos, still optimistic about Mauricio being a factor in the second half. Alvarez's injury worries me because hamates can really drain a hitter's power in the short term and that's a huge part of his game
4:03
Acuna and Baty both going back to Syracuse seems reasonable. Calling up Goodrum or Walton puts them back in the situation with no optionable bench players, but they'd be less worried about DFAing either of those guys than they would've with Iglesias. Acuna probably has a longer leash since he's more versatile defensively but he probably can't be a complete zero at the plate and hold the utility job all year

Does Zac Veen play well enough to earn an every day corner outfield spot? Or will he get it anyways because we don't have anyone else putting up a big fight for it
Anthony Franco
4:04
I'm optimistic despite the strikeouts. Good patience, good athlete, seems like he's gotten some of the power back after all the injuries
4:05
Would've given him the job over Beck coming out of Spring Training but I'm glad they pulled the plug there quickly

Are the Marlins still in a position to have to take on money to meet a salary floor to receive revenue benefits? If so, which teams should be calling to facilitate a trade and who, outside of Alcantara, should teams target?
Anthony Franco
4:06
I mean, they're clearly not getting to the $105MM mark that the A's were targeting. Miami's around $87MM. They're not absorbing $18MM in midseason trades
4:07
So they don't expect the PA to grieve it or they're not worried about what would happen if they do face a grievance, but in either case, it hasn't changed their behavior the way it clearly did for the A's
4:09
They really don't have much to move. If Jesús Sánchez comes back healthy, he could be a rotation lefty outfield bat for somebody. Quantrill's a potential depth add. Faucher or Bender could be middle relief targets
But Alcantara's the only one who'd move the needle for an acquiring team or net them a return that really matters
New App
4:10
I know it's still a ways away, but do we have a timeframe for when the new app might drop?
Anthony Franco
4:11
Not sure. Tim's been on a family trip but I can check with him for next week's chat

Will I remain as the Cubs POBO for 2026 and beyond?
Anthony Franco
4:12
Feels like a cop out to say it depends on how this year goes but it's probably true. I think they'll win the Central so my guess is they'll play well enough that he gets an extension

Can Caglianone play OF? the Royals OF is a pit of despair. should they call him up anyway?
Anthony Franco
4:15
He never played there in college and has been first base only in pro ball. Scouting reports have him as a below-average runner. He threw really hard as a pitcher so I'm sure the arm in RF wouldn't be an issue, but he probably wouldn't have the range for it
4:17
Would be interested to see them try him out there for a couple weeks in Double-A though. Melendez/Renfroe is such a low bar and using Caglianone or Pasquantino at DH cuts into the number of times they can get Salvy a modified rest day and use Fermin behind the plate
4:19
I wouldn't bring Caglianone up now but if he's mashing in Double-A six weeks from now, it would be nice to have an idea if he can hold his own out there

Sal Frelick doing anything sustainable or is this just an early hot streak?
Anthony Franco
4:22
He's going to ride the BABIP wave more than most hitters since he puts everything in play but doesn't have over-the-fence juice. He's riding one of those right now but a regression to league average offense is fine with how much he brings to the table defensively
4:23
Alright. I need to wrap this one here. Didn't have a ton of time today with the modified schedule, sorry
Always happy to take whatever I didn't get to on X @affranco10 if you want to throw it at me on there
Steve will do the Friday chat this week and we'll go back to the usual schedule after that

Thanks as always for the questions and your support of the site! Have a great week!
